  • I don't own this.
    But enjoy here are the lyrics:
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    On the first day of January, eighteen ninety two
    They opened Ellis Island, and let the people through
    And the first to cross the threshold
    of that isle of hope and tears,
    Was Annie Moore from Ireland
    Who was all of fifteen years
    Isle of hope, Isle of tears, Isle of Freedom, Isle of Fears
    But it's not the isle you left behind
    That isle of hunger, isle of pain, isle you'll never see again
    But the isle of hope is always on your mind
    In a little bag she carried, all her past and history
    And her dreams for the future, in the land of liberty
    The courage is the passport, when you're old world disappears
    But there's no future in the past, when you're fifteen years
    Isle of hope, isle of tears, isle of freedom, isle of fears
    But it's not the isle you left behind
    That isle of hunger, isle of pain, isle you'll never see again
    but the isle of hope is always on your mind
    When they closed down Ellis island, in nineteen forty three
    Seventeen million people, had come there for sanctuary
    And in springtime when i came here, and I stepped onto its piers
    I thought of how it must've been when you're fifteen years
    Isle of hope, isle of tears, isle of freedom, isle of fears
    but it's not the isle you left behind
    that isle of hunger, isle of pain, isle you'll never see again
    but the isle of hope is always on your mind
    Isle of hope, isle of tears, isle of freedom, isle of fears
    but it's not the isle you left behind
    that isle of hunger, isle of pain, isle you'll never see again
    but the isle of hope is always on your mind
    But the isle of hope
    is always on your mind
    All four of my grandparents came through Ellis Island from Ireland (1900-1910). None of them met until they came here. They suffered greatly on the voyage over and would never talk about it, but they instilled a sense of pride that my children feel to this day. They were the source of strength for my family. Their children solidified it during the Great Depression and World War 2. They were fearful and yet fearless at the same time. I owe so much to them.
    My parents came to the US from Eastern Europe in 1992--a little late for Ellis Island, and not Ireland, true, but still. Three years later, they brought me home to a renovated hotel room-turned-apartment, and my dad had work-study at 9 dollars an hour for a quickly growing family.
    He's head of the university's observatory now, and we own our own home and land, all six of us and our 12 pets. The Isle may be closed, but the hope hasn't faded.
    My grandfather came through Ellis Island just after the turn of the century (1901-02) from Greece. This song has special meaning for me.
    And now that I have a grandchild, I'll be sure to teach her of her heritage. Between her mother (my daughter) and her father, who also went through he'll to come to this country, she has so much to be proud of.
    I have been studying Irish history for many years and especially the story of the Isle in music.In all, the storytellers in song bring the true spirit of the emerald isle to all of humankind. The first time I heard "Isle of hope, isle of tears" by the Celtic Woman in concert in Dublin, It was the most emotional time in my life. I immediately located the lyrics and memorised every word. This story still brings me to tears through the years.
    This is phenomenal. These four women were an incredible group in the history of Celtic Woman: Lynn, Alex, Chloe, and Lisa. It doesn't get much better.
    It always amazes me that's invariably the outsiders who truly "get" the idea better than we native sons of this great land. It makes me proud to be Celt, a Jew, a yankee, a reb and an injun; in short, an AMERICAN. Thank you, beautiful ladies.
    My family came through in 1900; hers came earlier in the late 1700s. We first saw each other in 1961 in the Great Smokies, NC and we knew instantly. And so it was that we lived in a golden age, raised out daughters, were thankful that the Lord allowed us to be in this wonderful country and time. 60 years and more were fantastic. Then I had to lay her to her rest. I would like to do it all over again, the same way. Grumpy to Snow.
    We just traveled to Scotland and Ireland for a two week tour. It was amazing to see the countries in which our ancestors originated, migrated to America and never returned to their beloved homelands. It was a privilege to, in essence, return for them
    Sang this song in my community children's chorus in 7th grade...is one of my favorite songs I've ever sang. Never heard it again until the first time I saw Celtic Woman perform it at Wolftrap in VA, was shocked, and really happy. Also...the first time we rehearsed with our harmonica accompanist, our jaws all dropped and we missed the entrance... oops?
    This group along with David (have seen them in person many times since their debut 20 years ago) have yet to be beat by the succeeding ladies and directors. Just saw the latest iteration 10 days ago and I stand by my statement. Have to give props to their newest member Emma. She may bring them back to their greatness
    I have two midterms tomorrow that is basically gonna determine my future. I'm slowly falling into despair as I'm not completely confident about them tomorrow. I've been wanting to cry all day, but couldn't seem to shed the tears. After hearing this though, I can't help but cry. This song has given me hope again and I'm more confident about tomorrows exams than I was before. Thank you for posting this video up!
    You got the chorus lyrics very _slightly_ wrong; they _start_ with "Isle of hope," yes, but the last line of said chorus is actually, "but the isle of *_home_* is always on your mind!"
    They're singing about being in a land of hope & dreams, with an unknown future, but that despite how amazing/frightening it might be, you're always going to miss/think about the _home_ you came from (in this case the isle/island of Ireland).
    No primeiro dia de janeiro de 1892
    Eles abriram Ellis Island, e deixar que as pessoas através
    E o primeiro a cruzar o limiar
    dessa ilha de esperança e lágrimas,
    Era Annie Moore da Irlanda
    Quem era tudo de quinze anos
    Ilha de esperança, ilha de lágrimas, ilha da liberdade, ilha de medos
    Mas não é a ilha que deixou para trás
    Essa ilha de fome, ilha de dor, ilha que você nunca vai ver de novo
    Mas a ilha de esperança é sempre em sua mente
    Em uma pequena bolsa que carregava, todo seu passado e história
    E seus sonhos para o futuro, na terra de liberdade
    A coragem é o passaporte, quando estiver velho mundo desaparece
    Mas não há futuro no passado, quando você está quinze anos
    Ilha de esperança, ilha de lágrimas, ilha da liberdade, ilha dos medos
    Mas não é a ilha que deixou para trás
    Essa ilha de fome, ilha de dor, ilha que você nunca vai ver de novo
    mas a ilha de esperança é sempre em sua mente
    Quando eles fecharam ilha Ellis, em 1943
    Dezessete milhões de pessoas, tinha chegado lá para santuário
    E na primavera, quando eu vim aqui, e eu pisou seus piers
    Pensei em como deve ter sido quando você está quinze anos
    Ilha de esperança, ilha de lágrimas, ilha da liberdade, ilha dos medos
    mas não é a ilha que deixou para trás
    que ilha de fome, ilha de dor, ilha que você nunca vai ver de novo
    mas a ilha de esperança é sempre em sua mente
    Ilha de esperança, ilha de lágrimas, ilha da liberdade, ilha dos medos
    mas não é a ilha que deixou para trás
    que ilha de fome, ilha de dor, ilha que você nunca vai ver de novo
    mas a ilha de esperança é sempre em sua mente
    Mas a ilha de esperança
    é sempre em sua mente
