If you stare at the spiral you start to hallucinate and see a spiral movement infront of you till the hallucination stops it has technically the same effect as if you'd stare at a lamp and then when you look at something else you have a bright ball in your vision of sight.

you can at the beginning but you don't have to. you close your eyes before or when he tells you to. I usually just close my eyes the whole video and I've never had a problem. it really just depends on what you prefer.

Maybe you're just not suggestible, or you're too skeptical or you're not trained well enough (yes hypnosis is trainable) or whatever. You should contact a professional hypnotist to examine that - direct contact is also wayyy more powerful than a simple youtube video.
