it's mostly for drifting. you get more power and a more constant, stable drift when welding the diff. also when you burn out it just looks cool af lmao.
Isn't it wiser to get an up to 100% locking LSD?
Fox Mense but it's 100% all the time and a good LSD can go 100% to 1 wheel when needed and still free flow like an open diff when turning?
Fox Mense LSD is great if you have manual or have an automatic doesn't prevents the gears from going up automatically. Also you have to make sure your engine power is enough to break traction. The amount of wear on components is a lot higher like this. I really think drifting isn't worth it but if you run ultra bald hard tires it would be awesome. Maybe they should invent tires that are like this so drifting is done easier? I assume it couldn't be DOT certified though as the safety rating would definitely be compromised at high speeds. If you go custom you can get away with it as they wouldn't really know and you can drift super easy with low power.

I dailied my 62 C10 for over a year with a lincoln locker and it was pretty bitchin'...up until i was turning around backwards at slow speed and it bound up and snapped the axle shaft and destroyed the diff carrier. drive throughs suck because they typically are cement instead of asphalt

I had been on 1.5 way lsd because i daily my 350z on highway everyday.
So i have a question if i weld the diff and even drive the car on highway. Is that good or bad, any happen if i drive the car welded diff on highway, 70 MPH.
I'm so confusing because 1.5 and 2 way lsd little harder to drift than weld diff.
Please let me now how bad and good? Should i weld the diff.

Plus the dif is horribly out of balance so inner bearings are gonna go out. Rebuilt difs anyone?
What sucks about welded diff is you can forget about driving it in snow/ice, Just going around the roundabout or taking a corner 10mph it's throwing the back around everywhere.

Its load of shit, if you want sport diff then find one that will suit your car and fit it, on a wet road at 40mph in a 50 degree angle you will end up in bushes with all car fucked up. Buy a sport diff that will do the thing right, when you want it and dont look at the school boys who just got out their welding machine unless its track vehicle only.

What about driving in the rain? Do you slide more? I'm thinking about getting a NB MX-5, 1.6, nothing fancy and like to get the diff welded if I get the car.
It will be my first RWD (rwd's are really uncommon here, maybe 1 in 25 cars is a rwd) and I'd like to have some fun but I'm also afraid that fun might make a big hole in my pocket.
The one reason i don't like about welded diffs is that the pinion gear bearings ( in my case ) wore out in a matter of about 80 miles. Literally it caused the bearings to have some sort of irregular tolerances and caused the pin bearings to actually break off chunks of metal on the housing that holds them in place.
Personally i found an abandoned j30 and took its entire rear end out and put it in my 240 and now i have the smooth driveability of a j30 but when i do a burn out or drift the tires lock up perfectly in sync. Best free upgrade ever.

I wouldn't be concerned about tires as much as I would CV joints and axles. They bind up pretty bad. I have a 60% built LSD in my turbo E34 and it chirps the inside tire in tight turns but it doesn't bind and grate like that. LSD serves a purpose for sure.

I understand it's dirt cheap to weld a rear diff, but if you aren't driving a European or select Japanese car, bolt-in limited slip assemblies and even whole axles are available all over the aftermarket or in a junkyard for $200 - $500. An axle or trans specialist can install it for you for a few hundred more. If you daily that car for the normal life of a set of tires, you're going to buy at least one additional pair for the rear axle, probably more to get it to pass inspection due to uneven tread wear. Middle-of-the road performance tires cost $160 a piece after you've had them mounted, so why not just fork over a little more cash, save on tires, and have a car that can go around a corner at 55 mph in the rain without killing you?

Just because you don't hear it doesn't mean that the one of the tires won't slip. The tire wear would be awful. Also you can fuck yourself up quite easily at a high speeds. Just buy yourself an LSD. It's not worth it. In my country a lot of people do a welded diff mod to their cars and it's just awful...

+HaggardGarage get a new SD CARD at a better performance rating, you wont have anymore of the weird corrupt things that come up in the video, like artifacting. replace the sd cards often if you are always filling it up and erasing it, as this degrades the quality of the storage available as well as the overall size of the SD
