I'm African American and Japanese. I got a DNA test that said most of my African DNA comes from Ghana/ Ivory Coast. Perhaps one day i'll learn a bit of the Twi language. Or maybe Ga... :)

point of corrections. there's no other language call fante. The name fante Is a name given to one of the Akans group's. The group's of Akans are, Ashanties, Nfanties, Bono, Kwawu, Akyem, Akuapem, and the rest. they all speak a language call ( TWI.) You can identify them by their accent. so the name Nfante is not a language but a name given to that group of people. Nfanties speak TWI as well but with different accent. thanks.

Edward Anokye, I guess you don't know. Akan is the tribe. Asante, Fante, etc. My grandmother used to say Akaniba. With in Akan are Nton. The white man learned about us. You are from Ghana but didn't know.

How many years did you spend in Ghana? You tried to speak the Twi with the Ghanaian accent. Very well. But, the Akans did not originate from Senegal.
Moreover, there is no tribe such as Akan. The colonial listening to the Twi, Fanti, Bono, Akuapim, etc, realized the similarities in the languages and so postulated they might have originated from a single source.
No where in oral or written history has it that the Twi people (Asantes), Fanti, Akuapim, Bono, or Kwahu people were ever living together as one people. They have always been different people.
The fact that Romanian, Italian, French and Spanish are Romance languages does not mean that once upon a time these people lived together as one or they all originated from one particular place.

The Akan people originally came from Burkina Faso, and when they reached ghanaian territory they split up in Fante and Ashanti. Due to their diffrent food they got these names. The Ashanti were named like this, because they ate shan, the Fanti because they ate Fan. The suffix ti comes from di (eat).
