Finalmente, um review honesto e respeitoso, de quem entendeu o que o Cycles of Pain quer entregar, como uma verdadeira jornada sonora.
    Saudações do Brasil.

That's what I love about angra. Always walking the line between prog and power. No one does it quite like Angra and Kamelot

Kamelot ain't proggy like at all I never understood why they were considered prog

@@ronsdad3736 that's an interesting opinion. But personally, I hear the prog elements all over the music starting with karma. There's no way that the roics and black halo albums would be considered just power metal. I always felt that kamelot took the best from both subgenres. The heavy fast paced, technical, ultra melodic elements of power metal, while tossing out the fantasy element and going for more abstract themes with a dark twist. And just enough prog elements as far as song changes and dynamics to keep things interesting. They kind of found the equation for making the perfect hybrid genre. The power metal elements keep things ultra Harmonic and energetic, while the prog elements help the songs sound fresh with the dynamics not being limited to the standard "sword avd sandals, dungeons and dragons" archetype that I the worst part of power metal. And they never go so proggy that it becomes a talent show of 5 musicians trying to outdo each other in musicianship while forgetting to actually make a song. I've always thought of it like this, Pagan's mind is what dream theater would be at their full potential and kamelot is what queensryche would be at theirs. Kamelot's epica and black halo albums are what operation mindcrime 1 & 2 could have been if they had just pushed it a tiny bit further. Same level of death and substance, just a bit faster and a bit more melodic that's all.

@@WreckInSilenceRecords So what 3 proggy Kamelot songs would you recommend me check out for their proggy elements?

@@ronsdad3736 in my opinion, I'd say memento mori, Elizabeth trilogy, soul society. I mean I think practically anything on epica and the black halo albums. But like I said initially, they just take elements of prog to keep things interesting I wouldn't say it's the type of prog you'd get from like dream theater or fates warning you know what I mean? Where it's like a 12 minute song of just everyone displaying their technical ability with their instrument but no one is actually Making a cohesive song. I think a good comparison for what I mean would be to go back again to angra. Compare angra's Carolina IV or Zito and to a dream theater or fates warning or everygrey song. Personally, that's why I like the band redemption. They took Tom Englund and Ray alder out of that dreary boring ass prog metal style and put up a much needed dose of melody and speed behind them while still keeping enough prog touches for them to feel at home. To me, prog-power is the best subgenre of metal with symphonic, thrash, and melodic death being right up there with it.

Prog, power, modern parts and Brazilian music combined. I'm still getting familiar with the album. So far, it's getting better on each listening.

Your review aligns with my impression of this album, but you helped me articulate what the experience felt like. I experienced it as a very mature album with an incredible balance across Angra's pillars: (power) Metal, Prog, and Brazilian influences. It felt familiar and somewhat strange at the same time. Fresh, modern without abandoning its roots. I also felt that no element overshadowed the other, the blend was greater than individual contributions (which were also outstanding). Fabio Lione shined and offered many different facets and textures. The drums were awesome, guitars were brilliant, "shredding" at times, but melodic and serving the songs. The base carried the songs many times. Awesome!

    Angra is really outstanding
They never repeat themselves and always surprise us with new stuff.
I mean, after 30 years and a reasonable fan base, most bands wouldn't even care in risking anything

Perfect review of the album. It coincides a lot with what I feel with some reservations, of course.
And... Well... Seeing you and hearing you speak is relaxing, captivating... A serene voice, a really, really handsome man. You has such a beautiful face and such sweet eyes that... I don't know what captivated me more: The album or you. Haha
Anyway, great review! Congratulations for the good work!

If you like the way the Brazilian elements appear in this album, combined with a "prog+power" metal, you should check the band "Glory Opera"! They are from Manaus, a city in the state of Amazonas. The band brings a very heavy indigenous influence to their music, as well as the other Brazilian elements. Their second album "Equilibrium" may sound interesting to you. Its a concept album and you can find it whole with lyrics here on UA-cam! It's one of my favorites, so it was easy to spot some similarities when I first heard Cycles of Pain.

Oh, Glory Opera falls heavier on the prog part of the combination, mind you! Still, the power metal elements are there. Great review btw!
