  • My first experience with a SuperXFI supported device (as far as sound goes) left me pretty intrigued. It is night and day to swap between devices not utilizing Super XFI. The comfort kinks need some reworking, but they are pretty sweet and the Air Gamer headset offers a lot of control and extra benefit in the sound detection area.

Quick correction/update. The line-in on this headset may generate a hum, whether you go line to mic or line to external audio. I seem to encounter this problem with this headset but not some others. A firmware update may correct this, and I emailed Creative support to inquire about it. I didn't notice it at first, but now I do and I wanted to say something about it for the few of you that may see this. Who knows maybe I'm just missing something silly with this. Feel free to share your inputs if you have any!

Just an update, according to Creative I shouldn’t be encountering a problem with this so I’ll keep my eyes out for an update, or possibly a new mic to try it on soon 🤷‍♂️

I have the SXFI air c
If I use the 3.5 line-in I always hear a hum. If I use the bluetooth or the usb-c cable I hear everything fine and without a hum. Seems to be a thing, sadly. Although I never use the 3.5 so I don't care nearly at all to mind it.

@@wenteago2468 Some people will want to be able to mic in from external is the only thing, I'm hoping a firmware update may fix the issue for those people. Based on their responses we shouldn't encounter the issue but I'll mention that others have mentioned similar issues with this.

Sooo many questions and comments... but it's late and I'm on my way to bed. I'll see what answers I can find on my own tomorrow and hit you up (I feel like I'm too old to say that phrase, for some reason) tomorrow/today for what the Internet won't tell me.
    Great review!

Ready? This is gonna be long (giggity)(TWHS) Here we go --
      1. What are the inner dimensions of said pads? Where your listening flaps go.
      3. Do said pads rotate? No the whole thing, just the pads.
      4. Have you tried them with music? I saw the range on them, but some mfgs tend to fudge this.
I'm looking for something to replace my Monoprice cans that run a 20Hz ~ 20kHz range, as well. I LOVE them. They have amazing reproduction, hit every high and have lows that you can feel in your chest. And they're cheap at under $20. Therein lies the rub. Unless I Gorilla Tape the part that the slides come out/go into when I first get them, they're snapped in about 6 months. Which leads me to...
      5. What's the construction like? Do they "feel" cheap?
      6. Other than the weight issue, would you buy them for yourself? What about the same in the wired version for $50 less?
I use the following songs for reference when setting up the EQ for new can/speakers:
New Order - Confusion (Pump Panel Reconstruction Mix)
      ua-cam.com/video/d_Hw_UC314M/v-deo.html
Front 242 - Rhythm of Time (Victor the Cleaner Mix)
      ua-cam.com/video/JgsQuibP-p0/v-deo.html
How To Destroy Angels - And The Sky Began To Scream
      ua-cam.com/video/pUJsj5a5-ZE/v-deo.html
I trust your ability to set an EQ. None of the above should sound "muddy" and there should always be a distinction between the highs, lows, and vocals.
These 2 should be more along to road of stuff you've heard, so you know what it should sound like. Actually, I have no idea what you've heard, lol. I use these for their clarity:
Mad Season - River Of Deceit
      ua-cam.com/video/Fm72DPJCX58/v-deo.html
      Evanescence - My Immortal
      ua-cam.com/video/EKB4LlvixZU/v-deo.html
I don't expect you to listen to all of these, they're just a few that I use myself.
Thanks for any of these you can answer =)

1 - They are fully circumaural about 2.5' or 6.4cm by my measurement.
2 - You skipped two and went right to three
3 - The cups feature a slight rotation for conformity 8:30 I kind of show what I mean (if thats what you're asking)
4 - A lot of companies just put whatever, but yes I did try them with music and yes I think they are quite nice once you find your EQ settings.
5 - I don't love the weight and solid design, it's hefty construction quality and therefore 'good' by that measure of quality, but my 733's feel kind of cheap and I also love those for everything that makes them 'feel' cheap if that makes sense.
6 - If you aren't wanting to get BT for listening on the go, wired makes sense for sure. I would probably have bought them, but returned them because they are a bit heavier - and I wear glasses when I do things...It's very much impactful in a negative way. The sound is fantastic, but it won't matter if I am mad about the weight/discomfort.
There are 3 main things I listen to to find sounds. I listen to old piano bar music like Frank Sinatra, Julie London etc. I listen to Modern jazzy stuff, (the only one that comes to mind is The Egg and Me song, and I listen to modern dance/techno music (even if I don't love it, it's good digital sound) like Liqwyd. If I listen to 90's alternative, or old punk music, I don't really get a clear distinction anywhere because it is the bad that sounds good to me there.
To touch back on the muddy thing; to a bass loving person (sometimes me, sometimes not it just depends) they can use EQ to dump that dirt right in the water and it taste like fine wine to them. Audio is the worst to cover because everyone has a different opinion of what sounds good. Hell even you called something for being tinny, when I didn't think so. And I remember despising a certain mic that a coworker loved for the exact reason I despised it. I can find a happy place with the sound using these, and I can only assume others can as well.
Using SuperXFI can both make something sound gorgeous, and distorted, while not using it can shine light on to why one might opt to use it instead. I hate to give you the same answer I'd give most, but what I wrote there...well it's true. I think the reason companies like Sonos excel so well is because they find ways to appease a wide range of people with a 'you can't change it much' mentality to preserve their sound.
These provide flexibility with an easy intuitive EQ setup, and expand that with a range of proprietary sound engineering. For the price though, some reference monitors may be the way to go if you want bright sounds in that raw format. Senheisers HD280 Pro or HD200, I've heard are raw and great (haven't used them myself) and Audio Technica's MX series are all pretty solid for raw sound (have used those).
I'd say try these, if you don't like them, shoot them back and keep hunting :)

      @@EightSixMatt -- Wow... thanks!
There was a #2, but I found my answer before I posted this and forgot to renumberize my list.
      3. I missed that. Mine have replaceable pads that you can rotate 360°. I ask this because my ears don't both lie on the same plane. One tilts towards the back of my head enough degrees to be annoying with oval pads that don't rotate. I know, more than you wanted to know.
As for the rest, it all makes perfect sense. I use those songs because I KNOW what they should sound like. And if I can't make them sound that way with/without an EQ, all bets are off.
I'm going to look into the ones you mentioned. I was really impressed by the SuperXFI you demonstrated.
Again, thanks for all of the details and time spent =)
