If you're going to do a British boot off, please include William Lennon Boots. Established in 1897, manufacturing in the same premises since 1904. Very unique made to order boots.
I went to their shop in Whalley and I have returned 4 pairs. I love them but really struggle to find my fit. Either too big or too small and my size is usually 7/7.5. Quality seems cool but also seems they are trying to make shoes already seen of other brands
I confess my heart sank a little when I saw this video was about Lanx. Hitherto I’ve regarded them as a brand with clever marketing but without the products to match. When I first looked at them their products seemed to be cemented and Blake Stitched only. I’m glad to see they’ve graduated to Goodyear Welting and have some Stead leathers, but they still appear a bit flashy. If you want to look at the best of British shoemaking within reasonable budgets I’d suggest Crocket and Jones, Joseph Cheaney and Tricker’s. The Tricker’s Stow boot in acorn leather is probably among the best brogue country boots available. There are some cheaper brands like Barkers, Grenson and Loake, but some of their manufacturing is contracted out to India. There are also pricier options like Church’s, Edward Green, Gaziano and Girling, John Lobb, etc, but I don’t think most people’s budgets would run to them. If you do a series on British shoes I’d be particularly interested in seeing you tackle one of Grenson’s triple welt shoes. I’m baffled about what advantage they might offer.
I thought exactly the same when I saw these Lanx boots, just a clever marketing company. They certainly know how to charge, but if the quality is actually there then…. I wold second that RA should look at the Cheaney products
Yeah I feel weird about Lanx, lots of social media marketing that implies they're high quality boots made in England but if you dig down they use a lot of vague terminology about the construction of their boots and very few are actually made in England. Just some transparency would be welcome!
As a Mancunian I live just down the road from Lanx Shoes. Needless to say to say I have a quite a collection from this amazing company and I have numerous pairs!!! These include 2x Pairs of Wisewell Chelsea boots, 2x Pairs of Timperley and 3x Pairs of Grindleton all from their ‘Craftsman’ range and all in different leathers and colours. I wear them every day and it has to be said, once you break those leather insoles in (which doesn’t take too long) they are simply amazing! I’m not exaggerating when I say they’re not just another pair of boots! You know you’re wearing something special, they make feel good, they look better not to mention unique and the number of comments I’ve had is unbelievable. It would be so interesting to see a pair of the Grindletons cut in half, just to see if they really are as good as they feel. I would like to think so given the trouble Lanx has gone to in their leather selections, their linings, their sole selection, their construction methods and of course the level of apparent quality craftsmanship.
Was on holidays in the Uk a few months back (visiting from Aus)..Wandered into Lanx in the Northern quarter and left with a couple of pairs and a smile on my face!
I’d love to see some William Lennon boots reviewed. Made in the UK in the same factory for over 120 years by a team of just 8 craftspeople. It’s still run by the same family which has to be a rare thing these days.
I've actually got a pair of their jump boots being made up for me ATM. They're fantastic in terms of how much customisation is available. Definitely would love to see a review!
@smartugs1 @coff33guy34 after a tour of the factory I'd love to see Weston's take on William Lennon boots. Have the 78TC workboot and they are great value with brilliant service.
Id love to see you compare some British made boots and cut them apart. Definitely Goral, grenson, william lennon, dog leap, trickers, cheaney and Lanx would be good to do an in depth comparison of
Man I would fucking love to see you cover more British brands... cutting them open etc. That would be so so useful. My personal British favourites (in no particular order): Loake Crockett & Jones Trickers Cheaney Barker
I see Lanx more like a marketting company than a boot making company. The founder has a background in marketting. As far as I am aware the manufacturing is done by other UK and Europe based companies. You’ll notice that the Grindleton is thr exact same boot as Sanders Kelso/Cheltenham, but with a different leather and branding.
I get TONS of marketing from them. They're well priced so it'll be good to know what they're like - obviously confident if they sent Rose Anvil some shoes though.
@@bowendesign i owned a pair of their Bambers in distressed brown. Made in europe somewhere in believe. Quality was just ok- a stitch came loose on the toe cap and started to unravel- big stuck-in foam insole made my feet hot and the red paint rubbed off - orange stitch on the outsole was just for show, not functional - fibreboard underneath the insole instead of leather - leather had pull up but didnt seem or look that good quality after a while - Made in India Ive also owned their sneakers which were fine, but the heel didnt suit my feet very well and it felt like they were going to fall off constantly. If i were to buy anything from them, it would be the Grindleton as they are made by a reputable british manyfacturer- Sanders & Sanders
I tho k that’s correct as well. Their “warehouse” makes very small numbers. Everything else is made overseas (which they’re very quiet about) and a few things like their sneakers are made in Yorkshire and a few of their other shoes are made at other factories in Lancashire. They’re definitely making some good stuff but “Lanx” started off as some guy who did a gap year abroad and got some cheap shoes made overseas, they’ve come on a little since then but they have a long way to go before I drop nearly £400 on their boots.
Talking of British boot makers you should check out William Lennon & Co. They make a work boot I really like, also some cool looking replica ww1 and ww2 boots. Wish you could get them to make a barefoot style boot!
awesome vid! living in England I have been getting advertisements for Lanx quite a bit but was waiting for a video like this. In the meantime I came across the og, Tricker's Stow boot who I believe pioneered or at least popularized the brogued boot style. I 100% would love to see a "Great British Boot Off" just like the MITUSAs- also eventually an olympic style thing- mostly just to see PNW boots excel in terms of toughness, but it would be an interesting showdown. and yeah I am sure no one boot "fits all" as they say.
British work boots developed very differently from the typical US PNW style. You should take a look at William Lennon. Especially their 78TC traditional work boot and their 268 Hill boot. Both of these are classic British work boots. The first would be exactly the sort worn by generations of miners, steel workers and industrial workers. The Hill boot is the sort worn by shepherds, hill farmers and foresters. Even more traditional would be their X10 fell boot - very unusual lace to toe with a sprung toe last which curves from heel to toe to give a "rocking" movement as you walk. Especially interesting walking up or down steep paths.
@@fishbiscuit2000 would also love to see Weston's opinion on William Lennon boots. I don't think there are any other British boots that are better value.
@@fishbiscuit2000 I have a pair of William Lennon field boots to a custom spec. I find the semi sprung last great for uphill, a little disconcerting going down steep slopes, especially before I got more used to them. Fantastic quality boots though.
All the boots are named after villages in the ribble valley too, i think they’re based out of Whaley so they’ve named all their products after local places. Also fun fact about the ribble valley it’s where Tolkien lived whist his son was in school and where he wrote the lord of the rings.
9:30 I'd love to see you look at Altberg. Given you ride a Harley, you ought to check out their Hogg All Weather Motorcycle Touring Boot but they are known for their military and hiking boots too.
I got a pair of shoes for my wife from Lanx - they looked good on the website, and also looked good on, but on closer inspection and after a little bit of wear the quality wasn't great - loose stitching, and they were slightly misshapen. Their customer services were very good and they replaced the first pair, but the replacements weren't a lot better. The refund was made with no issues. They are local to me and I genuinely wish them well, but I think I'll give the company a while to 'settle in'. The Grindleton looks good, though. Maybe they should stick to boots.
Been with your channel since the old DM videos, really surprised you haven’t covered Trickers yet. They’re basically THE quintessential English country boot. I own a pair and they are HEAVY duty, more so than my red wings
@@pbmc_ I followed their size guide and ended up going TTS. With thick socks they work very well, thin socks size down half a size and you should be good 👍
Also I'd love to see an evaluation of the CF Stead Leathers- I know Grant Stone does the Chelsea's with the waxy commander leather in an amazing red brown
The opening section to this video is a brilliant display of why men don't live that long. Big Fan. Also I own a pair of Lanx Newtons and they are just class.
Lanx make a great everyday boot. Well worth a visit to their factory shop. For other English brands: - John Lobb - Alder - Edward Green - Galway - Trickers - Stow - Crockett & Jones - Coniston - Church’s - Coalport - Cheaney - Winterfold - Gaziano & Girling - Thorpe
Do you own a pair of John Lobb Alders? I’ve been interested in them for a while but unsure as they are worth the big price hike over my usual Cheaney/Trickers? My Trickers Henry will take some beating - just the perfect boot in my opinion. I see you’ve listed the Cheaney Winterfold, which is a new boot for this year - if doing a boot comparison across brands, maybe the Tweed would be a better boot as it’s been a mainstay of the collection for a number of years much like the Trickers Stow, C&J Coniston etc… that are on your list?
@ I have a pair of Alders with leather sole. Amazing boots. I picked them up from the factory shop at a deep discount. I think I have around 20 pairs of Lobb shoes as they fit me so well. For me, they make some a the best lasts out there. I also have boots by Cheaney, Trickers, Barker Black, Crockett & Jones, Manolo Blahnik, J Fitzpatrick and Meermin. Lobb is head and shoulders above the others for quality, but for value Crockett & Jones and J Fitzpatrick are strong contenders.
@@Pengranger Thanks for the reply mate, your collection sounds fantastic, a little out of my league! Sounds like the Alders would be worth the investment. I have the chance of a new pair with the lightweight walking sole at a cost of £695, which I think is a fantastic discount. I'm guessing you'd suggest taking the plunge with them?
Great to see some Lanx boots! I’d certainly love to see a British boot comparison video. 😁👍 Tricker’s Stow and the Crockett and Jones Islay are just two of many great British boots I’d recommend.
i live only 10 mins from lanx shop. i went in out of curiosity and came out with 2 pairs(suede monkey boot and some sneakers) after talking to one of their guys who was quite knowledgable and invited me to try some that were outside my usual brown boot comfort zone. i own loakes, crocket and jones, cheaney.....my lanx boots feel closer to these higher end boots in quality than blundstones or redwing. I'll continue to pick up footwear from them because they're so local. I'd be interested in trickers
As someone who lives in the UK, thank you so much for doing this! I want to support local companies, but sometimes "Made in England" should be read as a warning label! I am interested in what you think about the companies Dogleap Boots and William Lennon in particular. They seem nice, but I'll never pull the trigger on something with so few reviews.
I can also vouch for William Lennon. I have a pair of custom field boots. They are superb and worth every penny. What put me off Lanx was that they only make a selection of their range in the UK, some are made abroad, I think Portugal but not 100% sure of that.
I got a bunch of UA-cam and Duolingo ads for Lanx about a year ago, was interested to see whether there was substance to their admittedly good looking ads. I live down in Buckinghamshire so it's easier for me to drive for an hour or two up to Northampton to a lot of the other brands like C&J, Barker, and Tricker's, but it's always nice to see other UK brands manufacturing in the UK.
A british boot series would be amazing. Particularly William Lennon like many others have mention. But also Cheaneys too, they have a boot called the hurricane 2 that i have my eye on
Gorgeous boots. Very cool classic style and they’ll look even better once they’ve aged and creased a bit. BTW, they are quite pricey but at least here in the UK we don’t pay sales tax on top like they do in the US. Looks like you got a great new set of boots for your wardrobe.
A British brand that would be interesting to see on the channel is Alt-Berg. They are a hiking boot company, so probably not a candidate for the great British boot-off as they don't make any dress boots at all. However their hiking boots are hand made in the UK.
I’ve recently bought the LANX Ancoats sneakers. Compared to Thursday, I think Lanx are way better made and don’t cost much more. They’re also made about 20 miles away from my house which is awesome!!
One I haven't seen mentioned at all is dog leap boots. Another made in the UK small scale boot maker. Honestly as someone into UK made boots, I'm not sold on LANX
What is it you don't like about Lanx? I was interested in getting a pair hence why I'm watching this video. They seem cheaper than Dog leap so you wouldn't expect the same quality. Who would you suggest in the Lanx price bracket?
Id really love to hear your opinion on Crockett & Jones. Specifically the coniston in the black roughout suede. Very similar appearance to the Thursday captain boot in the matte black... But over the 3x times the price. Love to see a comparison between the two.
I have the ct9cket and jones islay boot and it's far better than Thursday boots (at least what they were making years ago). I'd say you are paying a bit for the name but if you search around you can get them for about 650 us. Bodileys is where I hot mine and I'm going yo get a coniston fron them as well. I think if quality is all you're after you can get sone grant stone or Parkhurst boots or tlb mallorca boots and save a few hundred bucks. Quality construction and workmanship probably close enough. Crocket and jones does have access to sone premium leather but those others make some damn fine boots. I'm sure there are others but I can't try all the boots. Least not yet :)
A double action OTF knife can't really hurt you much because once there is enough for it will clutch. You would need a single action to puncture a hand.
Really on the higher price range, but Crockett & Jones make some fantastic boots, the Islay is what got featured in Skyfall and Craig has worn a few other pairs of their shoes and chukkas in some of the other movies.
Wish they'd do a rugged version of the tasker boot with the chunky sole from those broques as a general purpose boot. I'd buy some immediately, but they just don't do the boot I want.
I'm a big cheaney fan, i've got brogues that are 20 years old and still going. Bought some grenson recently and they seem nice so far. I don't think the leather is as good as Cheaney. Be interesting to see differences between a Cheaney v Churches as Churches own Cheaney. Love the channel.
Love to see your take on crocket and jones and trickers. After my aldens fell apart i went to solid pnw boots but still need a wuaility dressier boot. Biught sone crockett and jones islay boots and so far they seem better than the aldens. Will see how they work long term.
Loake make some of their boots in England and some in India. The Loake Bedale is a lively brogue boot made in England. That should be on a British boot off if you do endvup doing one.
Nice video and beautiful boots! This number of boots could have used 30+ minutes though. I liked when this channel had almost exclusively looong nerdy videos. ❤

William Lennon, Trickers, Crockett and Jones, Cheaneys, Edward Green ect. so many bootmakers. Now alot of these are just like Alden, they are dress or country boots which have a very different criteria than work boots. Please be fair as well.
I bought a pair of BAYLEY’s, sadly these are NOT made in England. I think they’re fair value for the price (£220), I think they’re good value with the current (30% off) at £147, and that’s where you want to be. They have in my opinion a cheaper sole construction (Heel is poor in my opinion) Blakey stitching is OK (but not Goodyear- expect to pay way more to be fair). They look good and take a couple of weeks to break in with thick socks. They quote a wide ‘G’ fitting, but they ARE tight. I had mine stretched out a little by a cobbler and they’re now OK. Would I buy again at full price? As they do have a loyalty reward so yes! however they need to address the cheap feel of the sole and heel in my opinion. The expectation is that they are English, but not all of them are. The BAYLEY are the case in point. I visited them in Lancashire, and I like much of what they’re doing. I wish them good luck.
You laced them wrong bro! You gotta learn how to lace like the brits do! There's an interesting reason for why they lace their boots different too. I just got some trickers when I was there a couple months ago. Trickers are amazing!!!! I've been waiting for your review on the stow boots from them. Thanks for the good content!
Ok I really love the patina that their Taskers come in. Shame some are cemented (but advertised as restorable). That also looks like a rugby shirt style. Also brogued, not broguen :)

These days I don’t think it’s a warning label. It’s more of a sign of quality (I.e we didn’t cut costs by doing it abroad) than the old days.
I can also vouch for William Lennon. I have a pair of custom field boots. They are superb and worth every penny. What put me off Lanx was that they only make a selection of their range in the UK, some are made abroad, I think Portugal but not 100% sure of that.
All Cheaney boots are made in UK and very nice.
Yes! Get some Trickers brogue Country boots! 💙
Have a look at Grensons. They make some lovely boots. Made in England. They would be great for your great british boot off.
A British brand that would be interesting to see on the channel is Alt-Berg. They are a hiking boot company, so probably not a candidate for the great British boot-off as they don't make any dress boots at all. However their hiking boots are hand made in the UK.
Will you ever review the Trickers Stow ?
I’ve recently bought the LANX Ancoats sneakers. Compared to Thursday, I think Lanx are way better made and don’t cost much more. They’re also made about 20 miles away from my house which is awesome!!
Pretty sure that Sanders makes the Grindleton
No comparison, C and J and Trickers are in a different league quality wise
Nice to see this video doing so well. Please do a review of Brandecose next👍
Looking at those Grindleton , would really like to know how well they're put together.
The company is based in the county of Lancashire which is often abbreviated to Lancs. The company's name seems to be a play on this.
finally you did the lanx :)
and yeah do the british boots comparison
I have a couple of pairs of Lanx and although I like them I find the toe box on the smaller size, they definitely squeeze my toes.
I'm definitely planning on trying the boot breakers. And dude. You should come to Mondegreen.
Love to see your take on crocket and jones and trickers. After my aldens fell apart i went to solid pnw boots but still need a wuaility dressier boot. Biught sone crockett and jones islay boots and so far they seem better than the aldens. Will see how they work long term.
That tasker looks like a rambler leather on one of the grain side. It’s a shrunken leather, so you see all those veins.
If you do a big british boot off, look into K shoes which have a great history!
Loake make some of their boots in England and some in India. The Loake Bedale is a lively brogue boot made in England. That should be on a British boot off if you do endvup doing one.
I like my Grant Stones brass boots but my Loakes Hebdens fit and feel are joy inducing 😀
Would love to see review of a Heaney boots!
Nice video and beautiful boots! This number of boots could have used 30+ minutes though. I liked when this channel had almost exclusively looong nerdy videos. ❤
Do more British brands. Grenson, loake, herring. It seems some are partially made in India but quality seems fairly top notch.
someone else suggested Dogleap, how have i never heard of these till now. looks cool. william lennon also looks interesting.
Id love to see a review fo Trickers Stow Acorn boots. The King is a Dan if there’s and they’re factory is proper old school
For British boot off, of course Tricker's should be there
Great British boot-off has to include Joseph Cheaney. Unbelievable quality. George Cleverley would be good too if you can afford it haha
Can you cut one of them please (maybe the Tasker). What about reviewing Loake?
That Brogue would be $485. Nice looking boot.
Please do more English heritage brands! Crockett and jones, Cheaney and Trickers would be awesome!
Would love to see you do something from a company called Altberg.
Ow man I would love a England or Europe boot off. Loake 1880 makes some beautiful boots
My coworker put my live wire against his leg and pushed the switch. It went around a quarter inch into his leg and he bled a lot.

These definitely look like $200 boots. Over-finished leather, leatherboard heel stack, etc. Don't particularly need to see them cut in half
The blake construction with the false welts rub me the wrong way, but they are some beautiful boots in some unusual and equally beautiful leathers!
I would say it’s an English Company… as would peeps from Scotland, Wales and Ireland… hope the boots are comfy!
Those Chelsea boots look pretty nice with that outsole ❤
I’ve been waiting so long for this 😊
William Lennon, Trickers, Crockett and Jones, Cheaneys, Edward Green ect. so many bootmakers. Now alot of these are just like Alden, they are dress or country boots which have a very different criteria than work boots. Please be fair as well.
Trickers boots. The king's boot supplier
Chelsea boots are a very British boot style too. I like those.
The second boot I mean. I’m not as crazy about the fourth boot.
Some handsome boots from Lanx, if I had a job or place to wear them, they would be high on my list.
Bin lookin at these for while now some nice stuff they doin
definitely the brogues. And well done on the pronunciation on Lancashire.
William Lennon boots!!!!!
@zillatron290 yes!
I Like these Styles the Grindleton Especially & the prices Compared to But NW, Nicks is Closer to me the Shipping must be like $50
I've been wanting to get some Chelsea boots just so I can have a more dress boot that I can slip on.
what are the black matte shoes Rose took off?
Those Garstang chelsea boots look great. Also, wash that dirty salty sweatstain cap sir! 😂
Have anyone in the Rose Anvil team wore any of the Lanx boots? Are you planning on cutting open any of the boots?
You should do a mituk series
Yes please!! Do English boot shoe-off!
Man…the kershaw ad sport and the insole commercial. This dude is a dyed-in-the-wool born capitalist
Sadly not all LanX boots are UK made
Got a pair of their Indian boots and just as good quality and re solable too .
Will you ever do something similar for italian shoes?
That white shirt is almost exactly the same as Englands rugby shirt in the 1995 world cup
I'd love to see Grenson and Barker on the channel
Would love to see a UK boot off
You laced them wrong bro! You gotta learn how to lace like the brits do! There's an interesting reason for why they lace their boots different too. I just got some trickers when I was there a couple months ago. Trickers are amazing!!!! I've been waiting for your review on the stow boots from them. Thanks for the good content!
Eventually a Boot World Cup would be a really dope idea 👀
Ok I really love the patina that their Taskers come in. Shame some are cemented (but advertised as restorable). That also looks like a rugby shirt style. Also brogued, not broguen :)
