  • Bonjour everyone! How have you been? Welcome back to a our channel. If you are here for the first time, HELLO, we are Justin, Jeni and Lafayette living out the rest of our lives on a country estate in the Hautes Pyrénées.
In this video I’ll be sharing our kitchen as it is when we moved in. This room was previously used to keep pigs! Oui! I wish there were photos to share but there’s only the previous owners account who took the property over when her Father passed away in the 50’s. He took the house over from his brother who rented it out the farmers. This was once a 40 hectare farm! Originally the kitchen was in the grand foyer. The one with the white and black marbled tiles. Is was the previous owner who remodeled this room, adding bespoke cabinets and Italian tiles. Her favorite color for this room was blue and so everything in it was accessorized with blue accents. It was quite overwhelming when we visited the house for the first time and toured the kitchen because it was packed full of things but we could envision it’s charm and appreciate its space.
We would love to make changes however that remodel will have to wait until we can sell our apartment in Paris. For now, we are making it look the best we can and that includes keeping it minimal with an aesthetically pleasing pantry in which you’ll see me organizing. It’s amazing how arranging a space can make it appear bigger and definitely more functional.
This video process took me 4 days to edit and upload. For some reason imovie on my iPad didn’t allow me upload a 20 minutes plus video so I shortened this kitchen tour a lot. There was a problem with space when in-fact I had plenty of it. Strange. Unexplainable. Bizarre. But anyways it’s now up to share with you.
We appreciate your interest and hope that you continue enjoy watching our progress in updating and refreshing our home.
All the best! See you next time…

Love the alabaster, pottery and the chairs. Great finds.
What a fun Brocante to have near.
Have you ever redone a vintage lampshade frame? It’s fun 👍🏻
(but you’ve so much else happening)
Until you figure out how to remove it~ try an interesting shaped bulb 💡 and go with a skeleton frame.
    Nice work organizing

No not yet but I’ve decided to leave the skeleton frame, I think it looks fun and eclectic/eccentric. Finding a newer bulb is a fantastic idea! Thank you Martha. Have a great day! 💋

Its my new favorite place. It's called Troc de Cummings. I go back and forth with those tiles, not sure yet but I'm brain storming as we need to find a permanent solution soon. Bon weekend to you and yours. 😀

Did you ship a container from the US? I’m currently purging as much as possible but have heirloom stuff and some furniture I want to bring back to Europe. I’m Dutch but have lived in the US since 2000. Also thinking I might ship my car?

Hello Monique, no we didn’t. I came to France with 2 suitcases and a carryon! When I lived in Sicily the Navy shipped my things. I can’t imagine how much that cost! Must be in the thousands, good luck!

Bonjour! Really enjoyed this video today. The terracotta tiles - have you thought about whitewashing and sealing them? Whitewashed terracotta is wonderful and you may tint to your desired effect (gris peut-être?)

Thank you! Yes we have been considering painting the tiles for a grey terracotta appeal however the small sized tiles seems more fitting for a bathroom to me. Since there's not a (modern) foundation in place, humidity has oxidized many of the tiles, particularly in the entrance hall leading into the kitchen and the room adjacent to it. It will take a year for an electrical method to calm down the issue. So I'm the interim I think you are right, painting them until the issue is resolved is best than setting newer tiles over it. I'll do a lot more research on that soon. Once we completely demolish the kitchen, we need to decide what to do with the floors then and there. Have a great weekend soon! 😍

Love the chairs -- they look like they belong with the table. Not very familiar with alabaster but will be more aware as your finds are lovely. With the right bulb, the wire frame of the lampshade would suffice.

Alabaster is a softer stone and not as heavy as marble. I hope you find some. I’m loving the skeleton frame. X
