With winter coming along here in Ohio I found out the best time to fish is any time you can get out there. I'm going through withdrawals! I still got months of this cold darkness. 😢
What I have found consistently over the years is that schools of larger bass cruise into areas where baitfish are hanging out and feed for maybe 30 minutes and then they head back out deep. This is what a bite window means to me. I have multiple spots that I know are good and just rotate through them. When the fish cruise through, it’s on! Sometimes, the time of day seems completely random, other times it’s consistent but I generally agree with low light and mid-day as the most consistent times.
I hear people talk about post front a lot. I had the day off and the wind wasn't blasting 25 mph so hit the lake at sunrise. It was the coldest morning of the fall so far. All I learned is that the bite sucked big time. haha. I fished for 6 hours and caught 1 bass on a compact swim jig. Despite changing baits several times and working various areas just couldn't get bit. The water was just around 63 deg so I expected they'd be super active, but NOPE. That's fishin !! But I'll try to avoid going on the heels of a 30 degree negative temp swing.
One element of the formula you forgot to mention was water current. Our man made reservoirs often have water current based on planned releases by the lake management. It wouldn’t surprise me if your Lake Eufaula tournament “bite window” was due to water releases by the Corp of Engineers.
For the typical recreational fisherman who doesn't get to ever fish multiple days in a row unless they are on some kind of fishing vacation, I don't see how you can take advantage of bite windows? It can easily be a week or more between trips and so you won't have any knowledge of what the fish have been doing the previous 5 days to help determine what the current bite window is. Your only option is to figure things out once you get on the water ..... this is why modern electronics are so important to the average recreational fisherman - it enables him to figure things out in real time and hopefully find the fish in the limited time he has to fish. This is wha5 makes professional guides so valuable, they are on the water all the time and typically are dialed in to what's happening at any given time ...
@ I am not a cheater! Because I am versatile and I can catch fish with the use of FFS and catch fish without it, your boy Randy is a hypocrite ! He can’t compare bed fishing to FFS ! He Didn’t even limit in his last tournament not one but 2 tournaments , but preaches how YOU should do this and that , have Karen take back calling people cheaters and the cheater box , compare bed fishing and FFS and I will back off but until then, people need to hear the truth! Are you a cheater? I am Just speaking the truth and you and him can go pound salt, if you don’t like to hear others opinions .
