Even though most of us saw Saltbaker being evil coming, it was executed PERFECTLY. And in the words of someone I saw in the comments of another video "he looks like an old Disney villain"
But I do love the way how he redeems himself at the end by doing community service and works to mend his errors! Some people deserve a second chance and he will surely know for sure that he won't be forgiven again if he ever backstabs once more! That what I enjoy about it, it's a happy ending for all!
What makes Saltbaker work so well, even if you know the Twist, is that 1) The Twist isn't just that he went evil, but also how evil he went. Realizing that he's cuckoo for Coco Puffs was one thing, but the fact that he was straight up murdering folks for his attacks just to get your soul is straight up nightmare fuel! It's one thing to know that he's the Final Boss, but it's another to see that he became Señor Psychopath and that you've kinda brought him some victims. 2) His design shifts slightly when we see that he went evil. The yellow, way too human eyes and the way too detailed teeth. In a video on The Road To El Dorado, seeing a set of teeth in animation that looks realistic is rather unsettling. Plus, his smile changes from "Wholesome, Friendly Baker" to "Serial Killer Who Takes Glee In Doing Evil" makes him an extra scary threat. Helps that he looks like the Coachman from Disney's first take on Pinocchio. 3) His reformation, unlike some that I've seen, is actually handled quite well. The credits show him doing Community Service for the residents, which may be light considering what he did, but this let's him put some genuine effort into reforming. This is especially so since he actually tries to right some wrongs that he did. Was this handled the best? I don't know, but I do know that it's a lot better than some examples I've seen/heard of.
My dumb ass didn't saw him being evil coming until the spooky dungeon room, but his boss fight was made beautifully. The animation was so smooth and fluid and I love the idea of him using the ingredients we gathered along the way against us. It was such eye candy to me. 10/10. This fight puts the devils fight to shame lol

The DLC was amazing. My new favourite boss is the Moonshine Mob. I love the new challenges added. And as a fellow game developer I am so jealous of the DLC heart-warming story while being so simple. The art style is also something no one has been able to replicate.
I feel like the DLC does everything right: - People were complaining before about Cuphead’s challenge when it first released, so the more fair design for the regular modes of the DLC bosses is nice for new players, or players who are rusty. - The bosses we did get are really fun, and some were pretty tough. Also, some of the bosses had some new ideas/mechanics (Saltbaker’s second phase, fake knockout in the Moonshine Mob fight) which were great. - The animation in this is stunning, Studio MDHR went insane with the DLC. Every single boss (shoutouts to the Howling Aces) had amazing art and animation. Same with Chalice’s animations, they’re really smooth. - The new shots and charms are pretty cool, and the Divine/Cursed Relic gives bosses a nice challenge and you can plan your moves. - The King’s Gauntlet is a really nice and pretty replayable mode that the DLC brings and I’m really happy this is the way we get coins instead of the Run N’ Gun levels, which IMO they were pretty frustrating. Honestly the fact that this is 8 bucks blows my mind. It completely shattered my expectations, and was one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences this year. Edit: you mentioned the Moonshine Mob boss being like the cut pachinko boss, and that made me realize how there are other elements from other cut bosses. Phase 2 of the Moonshine Mob with the music notes rotating is exactly like that green thing boss, and the spider from Phase 1 is very similar to the cut spider boss.

Something no one appreciates is all the word play and clever gags MDHR added. Having the boat driver be a compass is S tier. The knight being a horse is so hilariously clever and having the COWgirl be a cow is just amazing.
I’d say the dlc would have been perfect if they added atleast 1 run n gun stage, I would have love to see coin-op bop return or a new stage concept in the dlc.
I played the whole dlc in coop with my brother and it was pretty fun! We're probably just rusty but we found all the bosses to be super hard on regular mode. I'm terrified to try them on expert... That double devil fight was a huge pain because the turning around thing randomly picks one player to keep track of every few seconds. We also struggled a lot on the pawns because of how chaotic it got and because they all have to be parried twice in multiplayer. The relic wasn't too bad since you can charge it up by beating any 8 bosses and coop made it even easier. The moonshine mob's first two phases and the converge weapon are all based on unused stuff from the base game (tetrabit made a quick video about it) Overall very cool and definitely worth the wait! Honestly $8 felt like an absolute steal for the sheer quality of it all Edit: seems like based on other people's comments that for the relic, it needs 8 "points" to be powered up. We beat 8 non dlc bosses to do it but others have said that they beat 2 dlc and 4 non dlc for it, which must mean that the dlc bosses give 2 points toward the divine relic
0:19 - I remember seeing that anteater cartoon when I was kid at my grandparents house. 0:25 - I totally got the reference in the giant anteater boss fight in Cuphead.
when i first used miss chalice, i had no clue there was a tutorial at the beginning. so when it came to fight the pawns, i was confused and had no idea how to parry until i just dashed into one of the pawns by accident lol
I loved everything about this dlc and it was way cheaper than it could have been but the entire time i just wondered how it took 4 years for it to release.
4:00 I'm pretty sure that the heart ring does not help for S ranks because in my runs I get 1 heart thanks to the heart ring and my score end up with 0 healths left, so it helps a lot, but it is not made for S ranks. Edit: Well, it looks like it depends.
I have yet to play this DLC but this was definitely worth the the four years of waiting, all the bosses are just amazing. My favorite has to be Mortimer Freeze, he's a pretty cool boss (no pun intended) and he's probably one of the most memorable and he's one of the most enjoyable to fight against. The only problem I have with him is that he's just pretty easy, his first phase is kind of a joke, but his second phase and third phase is where it most likely gets challenging and fun, but what do you all think.
I agree the first phase is really easy, but regardless its a fun fight. The slamming whale attack reminded me of the grave smash in goopy la grandes fight
@@drybones0645 basically it makes the game super easy but i love that. basically if you can do the challenge having the divine relic is just a god mode
I won’t lie.. when I finished salt shaker yesterday and the credits started rolling I was like “wait.. that’s it?” But I’ve only completed 30% of the dlc and realized there’s so much more to do. It was def worth it for the price..I have to remember that I’m better at the game now and therefore didn’t get stuck on bosses for 4 hours like I did my first time in cuphead 😂
one of the best parts of cuphead is how most of the attacks have a visual preperation so if you pay attention you know whats going to attack you, the best example of this is how you can see chef salt baker prepare the attacks in the background and send them at you
All but the ice wizard guy are on the top of my favorite boss battles in the whole game, so I'd say the DLC absolutely aced it. It's clear the devs learned from what they did on the original and massively improved on it.
It’s actually quite astonishing how many scrapped concepts were revived… and two free plot twists as well!!! First the fake knockout, then chef saltbaker! Angel and demon duo was also a fun little secret and gimmick! And let’s not forget that despite the rather scary twist the chef made, it’s very comforting that they were redeemed in the epilogue with a rather fitting set of ways to make up for the trouble. All in all games in general are only going to get better, but you’d better believe that I’m prepared for the great downfall at any given point after this year is over with.
I enjoyed Glumstone’s fight quite a bit as the dwarfs remind me a lot of the gnomes from gravity falls. I also enjoyed the defence to king dice and the devil in the second phrase and the concept and transition form 2 to 3 was really nice.
The dlc was really fun and the final boss was my favorite , I do agree that it was a bit easier than the main especially the final boss but the plane boss and the mountain giant are definitely on par or even harder than the main game Overall I give it 8/10 it's as good if not better than the main game and anyone who loved cuphead should play it
My mom had a CD of retro style cartoons and I watched the exact same Anteater vs Ants cartoon that you watched. It's really nice seeing Cuphead tap into that aesthetic.
outside of cuphead worship, which I do, its a great DLC. Outside the cuphead worship, it's a tiny DLC package. I just wish Microsoft would have given them a team of 200, and endless budget and lots of Starbucks for a full 10 hour sequel.
One thing that i like is the fact that after saltbaker got arrested he actually had a good time with his community service, even playing checkers with the queen
6:40 It was later discovered that this fight has a secret phase where if you turn all of the young dogfighter's smoke grey, you will trigger this alternate final phase
Ah yes, that same nostalgic sense of screaming my head off at four in the morning at a boss when cuphead was basically pole dancing on the finish lines
Every old cartoon the cuphead devs probably referenced to, I have their DVDs and it shocked me+ slammed me with nostalgia. I remember watching these cartoons over and over again because I didn't know how to use a TV at the time. I really liked the dlc overall and I totally agree it's worth the wait :]
I'd rather have a studio taking their time perfecting the animation and overall gameplay before release than I'd buy a game that's barely functional before a bunch of patches have been pushed and installed. So yeah, Studio MHDR - you did it again. Thank you.
It's not really Nostalgia being born in 1990. But when I later discovered I can watch old cartoons over the internet, I grew appreciation to old style animation. The visual style of Cuphead just feels special to me.
The fact that they made a new player/young player friendly playable character is amazing, since they don’t have like 12 years of gaming experience. So I’ll definitely be using Ms. Chalice.
You forgot when Ester Winchester turns into a sausage cow and spits steaks at you, she looks a lot like when the evil queen turned into a dragon monster in Betty Boop's Snow White (1933)
I haven't played it yet and I'm already wanting more I just love so much about cuphead the gameplay is challenging and fun the animations are just so beautiful and it's so nostalgic 🥰
at 2:46 you can see that Pogobro jumps before he parry’s the head of the pawn, you don’t have to do this as miss chalace you can just dash and you will parry without taking damage. I’m not saying that you’re bad if you jump first you’re probably a better player if you can do it, but I’m saying this to make it a bit more easier for people who are somehow struggling with the pawns.
OMG! The anteater is the one boss?!! I grew up with ghat cartoon also. Not to mention a bunch of other Depression era cartoons. I even have a home movie of us watching it at a young age. So cool to find someone else who holds the same nostalgia.
I got every achievement not long ago and spending hours learning boss rotation, getting better at movement through trial and error. This DLC was worth and I am kind of sad the game is done for me in a sense. Four years for DLC is a long time but worth the wait for sure. My only wish is the devs do one more DLC to do a boss rush challenge much like in Hollow Knight but not quite. Also online co-op, I beat the game but I wanna run it again with a pal and lastly devs open up a workshop and let the modders go crazy and let the game live on through the community!
Okay, for the longest time, my family didn't have Internet, so we had literal BOXES of vhs tapes everywhere. Some had cartoons (like "Ants in the plants", where the pancake ant clip came from) or prerecorded movies and tv shows. And IM 18 I FEEL MAJOR NOSTALGIA
In the dog plane boss thing idk what its called if you dont attack the 4 dogs as they fly around you in a circle they get added to the final phase of the fight and change things up
6:35 I believe there is a secret 3rd phase for this fight if you wait or only shoot the puppies until their jetpacks smoke. That secret phase should make your life easier.
If you struggle with the final phase of doggone dogfight just remember when she gets up close the controls are regular but when it’s the lasers there changed to look with the screen
For 8$ you get a painstakingly crafted DLC with tons of value. With base Cuphead selling for $20 nowadays, $28 for the complete experience is a no brainer.

The moonshine mob's first two phases and the converge weapon are all based on unused stuff from the base game (tetrabit made a quick video about it)
Overall very cool and definitely worth the wait! Honestly $8 felt like an absolute steal for the sheer quality of it all
Edit: seems like based on other people's comments that for the relic, it needs 8 "points" to be powered up. We beat 8 non dlc bosses to do it but others have said that they beat 2 dlc and 4 non dlc for it, which must mean that the dlc bosses give 2 points toward the divine relic
Am I tripping or do the animations look even smoother somehow?
Yes they really improved
animation is the best its been
all of them are on the same tier as the devil's second phase. It's really amazing
0:19 - I remember seeing that anteater cartoon when I was kid at my grandparents house.
0:25 - I totally got the reference in the giant anteater boss fight in Cuphead.
Can we just talk about how smooth the animation is? This is now some Disney level shit! 🤩
I love how appreciating this community is :'> , other community I find aren't even grateful for free content every 2 year
Dude I would pay 20 Dollars for this dlc it is amazing
agreed
when i first used miss chalice, i had no clue there was a tutorial at the beginning. so when it came to fight the pawns, i was confused and had no idea how to parry until i just dashed into one of the pawns by accident lol
I personally absolutely LOVE the helicopter fight and the games. learning that it was only 8$ is really surprising.
There’s a secret with the cursed relic, if you beat 8 different bosses with it, it becomes a devine relic (does the same as cursed but gives 3hp)
And that it gives you smoke dash, automatic meter fill up, parry move as an attack and gives you hp for your 1, 3 and 6 parry
@@drybones0645 basically it makes the game super easy but i love that. basically if you can do the challenge having the divine relic is just a god mode
@@alexbluer well the downside is that the user does not have any control on what weapon it randomly alternates when you stop shooting
4:37 Seeing this notification in the video nearly gave me a heart attack smh.
im in your pc its too late
Everyone keeps saying it's the end.
I hold out hope. Dessert comes after a last course.
one of the best parts of cuphead is how most of the attacks have a visual preperation so if you pay attention you know whats going to attack you, the best example of this is how you can see chef salt baker prepare the attacks in the background and send them at you
Things that are cuphead and were announced that years ago, like the cuphead show, the wait was worth it
All but the ice wizard guy are on the top of my favorite boss battles in the whole game, so I'd say the DLC absolutely aced it. It's clear the devs learned from what they did on the original and massively improved on it.
Thanks for the good humor 2 mins in, didn't need to watch the rest nothing else could top it.
The Chef Saltbaker Fight gave me strong Fanstasia vibes.
The dlc was really fun and the final boss was my favorite , I do agree that it was a bit easier than the main especially the final boss but the plane boss and the mountain giant are definitely on par or even harder than the main game
Overall I give it 8/10 it's as good if not better than the main game and anyone who loved cuphead should play it
I believe that they’re gonna wait until the Cuphead Show finishes before they think about more games
the background on the secret boss was like 💀
My mom had a CD of retro style cartoons and I watched the exact same Anteater vs Ants cartoon that you watched.
The claymation devil in the background was insane
The final fight takes the normal game's 40's cartoon style into literal Disney renaissance villian.
Chefsalt baker looks reslly fucking shine when he gets close up and I have to applaud the animators for giving him that look
Dlc not being complete asskicking simulator was a nice suprise
Cuphead is the most beautifully animated video game of all time
Ah yes, that same nostalgic sense of screaming my head off at four in the morning at a boss when cuphead was basically pole dancing on the finish lines
6:49
also, their guns are "snake oil"
and it actually makes oil snakes!
Thanks for the huge spoiler in the thumbnail.
I thought the dlc was free, but of course it seems worth it, and just amazing
The fact that they made a new player/young player friendly playable character is amazing, since they don’t have like 12 years of gaming experience. So I’ll definitely be using Ms. Chalice.
"Thy reward? Wealth untold! *gives you two coins*" - TheGameSalmon
Well it’s longer because each frame is animated by hand and everything is drawn by hand
was NOT expecting a fucking tear into Fabsol in a CUPHEAD VIDEO of all places...
Also online co-op, I beat the game but I wanna run it again with a pal and lastly devs open up a workshop and let the modders go crazy and let the game live on through the community!
for online co-op, steam remote play works fine
I myself have actually done the cursed relic challenge, but I'll admit I abused the double HP cheat and isle 1 bosses
7:48
pun intentions?
(on the account of "sublime" while the chef was cutting limes)
It was short but sweet, kinda like eating a pastry.
If you struggle with the final phase of doggone dogfight just remember when she gets up close the controls are regular but when it’s the lasers there changed to look with the screen
One of the funniest bits about saltbaker is that after trying to kill 3 kids in his basement all he gets is community service
I agree when I was going against Rumour Honey Bottom I was struggling until I started to use twist up it really helps.
Got the dlc almost 40 minutes ago and haven’t beaten any bosses yet. It’s tough but I already love it
I honestly can't wait for their next project, shits gonna be just *chefs kiss*
Good grief, that Calamity Mod gag was one hell of a deep cut. I got it, though!
Awesome video.
Glad you enjoyed it
I feel like their should've been more bosses but knowing how hard it is to draw all of that i am satisfied with what we've got
you can use twist-up on the phantom express, some of the shots go offscreen(i think)
and makes phase 3 so much easier 💀
The animation in the DLC was definitely a step up from the original game.
I beat the entire game just to get more of a blast out of the DLC but I managed to have more trouble on the DLC than the Original game
For 8$ you get a painstakingly crafted DLC with tons of value. With base Cuphead selling for $20 nowadays, $28 for the complete experience is a no brainer.
"The bullet heck aspects are just sublime" was it pre-planned that that was said when the limes were cut?
Pogobro:"it's just more proof that MDHR is the best in the video game industry." Nintendo: "Am I a joke to you?"
