  • Troops of the US 1st Army cross the Roer River and advance on Duren, Germany on the morning of February 23, 1945, as the push to the Rhine gets underway. In conjunction with the start of this action, soldiers of the 9th Army jump off near Julich.
I also have another video with footage from the Duren area. It can be seen here: • 1st Army Activity Near...
Public domain footage clipped (along with its distorted audio :( from the US War Department's Staff Film Reports No. 46 produced by the US Army Signal Corps' Army Pictorial Service.

My great uncle Albert Antinori was an engineer with C co 297th engineers. He received the bronze star for his involvement with the bridge crossings 23 to 25 February. I have the citation.

My father participated in the crossing. Dates match up perfectly with the journal he kept during the war.

My uncle died the next day 2-24-45 but he was in the 3rd Army. You know anything about that? I can’t find any footage or info. Thanks

my Dad tripped a land mine on 2-23 lucky SOB survive. Hence me I guess. He crossed the river between Linnich and Ruhrdorf. It was his last day as a working soldier. He then became a surviving one.
