Im pretty convinced now that Reid is a major ghost producer and just does this youtube thing for fun
Same, puppets working for Drake, migos, niki, eminem, pump and so on

He's the sauce.
You prolly dont give a shit but if you're bored like me during the covid times then you can stream pretty much all of the latest series on Instaflixxer. I've been watching with my brother for the last few months xD
@Zahir Ivan definitely, I've been watching on InstaFlixxer for since december myself =)
You scared the shit out of me because I thought that you revealed your face in the thumbnail.
he revealed his face years ago, just google his name and you'll find his instagram lmao
Dont feed me such horrendous things. I choose to believe he's a puppet, and only a puppet.
same. sometimes ignorance is a bliss.
just wanna say, artist 2 artist, i really am impressed with how much work you put into these, and thank you for making them.. your dedication is admirable, forreal. your tutorials are super clear & informative. i think your hard work will really pay off!
yo wassup i love these too
Its already slowly paying off he is almost at 100k subs, hard work really pays off
i feel like ive watched enough of your unmonitized videos i owe it to the realest puppet in the game to purchase something from wholeloops
Think we couldn't agree more!
Let me know who you'd like to see on next month's guest tutorial!
Darude
Deadmau5
Andrew Huang!
Getter
Kanye
Loving these tutorials reid!!! Id love to see more guests on here as well!
Ok that's just cool. Having a way to have the kick come through without making the whole track pulse out from under it. Wait, I can now have melodies and bass that lands on the first beat of the bar, and can still hear the kick, that's awesome. Mind. Blown.
The only problem with this method is that having those two EQ8s set up like that will leave a dip at 150. Using multiband dynamics to split frequencies is a better choice.
I second this. Multiband dynamics is way better at splitting frequencies; you could use two of them in an audio effect rack to achieve a smoother result. Great concept though, I use it in all my productions.
came here to say this, thanks bud
Just commented the same thing, a lil over explained tho :D I third this
But isn't it true MB Dynamics does the same thing internally? By using an EQ to split out the bands and assigning a upwards/downwards compressor for each ??
Yeah you will definitely still get crossover issues, but often times if you tune it harmonically it can add to your sound, it's just a slight tonal shift. If you really want to remove any chance of that dip you can check out the Sweepable Crossover rack that someone posted to the ableton forums a few years back. It uses phase inversion to create a pretty seamless multiband sweep.
Watched like 3 diff videos before this on Multiband compressing in Able. Nothing worked until you. Great method that makes clear, visual sense w stock plug ins for direct automation.
You are seriously amazing I really appreciate all you do for the community!
OMG exactly what I was looking for 😲🔥Thanks!
Just found my new favorite production UA-cam. I love your tutorials and satire
i think its actually starting to make sense and this side chain compression has been helpful.thanks
This was amazing! Thank you so much guys
whoa the new puppet looks dope
Exactly the kind of 🔥 content we'd expect from the realest puppet in the game
I learned a lot, THX
Im glad to see you!
THANKS!!! this was suuuuper helpfull!!
multiband dynamics has internal 3 band sidechain in itself. Also you can use multiband dynamics to make 3 band frequency splitters.
Cant wait to get home and try that
Nice one dude!
sshhiitt! this just changed the game for me! thanks for the video
Yeah it's really awesome , tks so much
I've been trying to get a multiband side chain to work with TDR Nova in Ableton. No matter what I did it wouldn't work right. Creating your own multiband with 2 eq's is such a smart simple answer.
Beautiful
MILO!!!! where has he been holy shit
Last weekend i went to a seminar in LA at IO Music academy where Bass Kleph came and showed us some awesome techniques. He also did a bit of a Q&A as well. I learned a lot and Id love too see you do one as well! Its Something to think about! :) hit the school up im sure they would LOVE to have you ! :)
excellent thanks
why did you adjust the compressor freq to 671 ? to uncompress the freq below 671 ? how can you have a frequency around 150 - 671 while 150hz is the low pass and the 671 is the hi pass ?
Holy shiiiiiit, game changing
Killagraham this dude is dope!
Amazing tutorial and loved the Juno and moog sounds ! Any chance of getting a preset / recreating the same sound ?
Is this essentially the same thing as using an envelope follower on the kick, then mapping it to the bass eq at the low end freq (where the kick hits) , thus every time the kick hits, it will auto drop that specific frequency that you mapped. This is another way to avoid the "pumping" effect.
Quick and simple, i like it. You should try to get either Geotheory, or Pomo for next month's tut.
So at 4:20 say not to use the EQ but at 4:28 you say you use the eq. So, can you explain a little bit?
Im using an eq 3 instead of an 8. one chain with the low turned off and one chain with the mid and high turned off. it just seems more simple and aesthetically pleasing. is their any downside to this method?
Muchisimas gracias, saludos desde Mèxico
Shapperbox 2 does this in less steps. But if you don't want to buy that then this is perfect.
Dammmmmmmnnn great guest to start withhhhhh
thanks so much for this tutorial man, but can anyone tell me the hotkey he used when he grouped that first eq into an audio fx rack ? i been needing this one 💀
That was useful
I expected some interactions between him and the puppet :p
cool thanks I liked that you turn off all unnecessary EQ frequency buttons, looks nice and neat !
The thing here is that the kick cuts its own subs too, because of the kicks are in the same group as the leads. If this is your demand than this method is the right. But sometimes i don´t want to lose the low end of my kick(s) especially of course for the sub kick. A better way to my desired achievement is an approach to a method used in another Reid Stefan Tutorial about Kicks & Snares, where you wrap the kicks totally out of the rest and then effecting/ sidechaining, in this case, the sub frequencies of all other sounds except of the kick drum, so that you don´t lose subs of the kicks to make the subwoofers smashing out of the table when the kick(s) hit.
Realest human. In the game. 👍
Are there any phase issues when separating a signal into two bands with a highpass/lowpass? I'm wanting to use this technique on my drum group but it sounds considerably different when split into two bands, even though the crossover point on the EQs are accurate.
yes, the way to tell is to duplicate your drum group with all the fx (disable all time based ones for now) but ONLY have the split bands on 1 track. then on the flipped version put a utility on and phase invert it. If you hear nothing then there is no phase issues, if you heart something then you have a phase issue.
I don't quite get it. So you have kick&base grouped and then apply a kick sidechain on a split lowend. From what I understand it is sidechaining kick with the same kick (?). Won't it have better sense putting this multiband sc on bass alone?
Nah his kick was not grouped with elements being sidechained to kick, so he's in the clear. You are correct to think that kicks should generally not be sidechained to themselves in the context of mixing the low end.
so the only signal the sidechain is reacting to is the freq above 671hz? why wouldnt you use the low end signal of the kick?
On a slim chance you see would you ever be able to go through some of the parts from your track "Freak Em" it's soo good and I really wonder how you create leads and drops with so much depth not using a synth. Any info on it would be tight, thanks in advanced dude, keep doing great things.
So you are actually showing a manual approach to creating a multiband compressorr from scratch. Nice!
Aren't there however artifacts from the harsh 4 pole EQ split between the lows and mid-highs?
The EQ8's 4 pole filter is quite agressive.
amazing tip, more guest please
Where did you get that squid thing? Its awesome :D
Just want to know why he didn’t use the multi band compressor to do this?
Turn your attack down for a quicker bite on the sidechain to let the transient of the kick live
i was waiting for the puppet to come up again.
My only issue with this is that by only sidechaining the low end, the transient (which sits in the high end) is lost, more subtle sidechaining sure, but less punch from your kicks.
Yea I think this video really only addresses the basics of this technique but I'll usually find myself adding a (often more subtle) sidechain on the mid/high chain as well to circumvent this when i do the eq8 multiband technique... or just use the dang multiband dynamics audio effect to do both things on one device
Pressed subscribe so hard my mouse exploded
More of these mini guest tutorials!
Xijpo I’m working on it!!! I just gotta make more friends first lol
Hey what mic is he using here???
but why did he exit through the door at the end
I mean if you dont have the multiband compressor for ableton i can see how this is viable, but you’re losing some of the sound at the 150hz range that would have been preserved had you used the aforementioned audio effect
Wait you got that super expensive Sony mic!
and a super expensive studio in general lol
If this was really advance he wouldve use a multiband instead of EQ so he doesn't have filter peaks. Lol
exactly what i was thinking. hes getting a dip in frequencies around the 150 hz area and phasing issues.
Facken genius
It didn't make sense to me what was in the group. Good idea not so great execution on this tutorial. Also the image of his face is so big it's blocking information on the screen I wanted to see. Anyway, awesome channel, great subject material. Keep up the great content!
literally why im scrolling the comments- should we group the whole song together and do the work on that?
oh shit milo and otis real trap shit
such a good guest, comes and teaches.eats nothing and leaves :p
it's much easier to put multiband compressor like C4 from waves and sidechain every freq band how much you want.
WOW...
VERY GOOD 🤤🤤🤤
Nice vid. But can't stop me from asking. Are those real jellyfishes?😂
Sounds exactly like Drake's Over My Dead Body
Thank you - just saved me $50 at least...
Bro some stranger just came in your house and started fuckin with your beats then just left. You need to lock your door bro.
Hey Reid! I have huge respect for what u doin in this channel n I have to admit, I have learnt a lot from you. But the way your guest does it in this vid doesn't make sense to me. Why would anyone use EQ8 in place of Multiband Dynamic?
first of all the bands in EQ8s in parallel, won't output the same input signal combined. Reason being the slope of the bands. No matter how sharp the angle is, there always will be some resonated frequencies at the overlapped region caused by any slope less than 90. and I believe, and please correct if I'm wrong, this is not the case with Multiband Dynamic as it should be designed to output exactly the same input signal, or at lease perform better in a multi band situation with sharper slopes.
Secondly, guess what? Multiband Dynamics IS actually a Compressor with side chain abilities. So less load on the CPU.
Don't u think?
In the end, Keep up the good work bro. What u doin here is priceless. you're helping many many many people, including me, and I'm thankful for that.
I was going to say the same thing. You always end up with that weird hole in the sound when trying to create bands with an EQ, even with a super intense dropoff... Learning about multiband compressor solo technique blew my mind
"do ur 808s sound like sloppy trash?" lawl
Uhmm. Why don't you just use sidechain with a simple multiband compressor? Without this chains and eqs? I mean standard ableton compressor has sidechain option as well eq so you can compress only low frequencies.
I have like 10 years of XP in Ableton , basically since its made , and i googled this because to my surprise Multiband C. doesn't have a side chain in ableton , god damn they just stopped caring , no this is not how you do it , you use Multiband compressor and you side-chain it , obviously Ableton Compressor wont work so we need to use What , Waves ladies and gentleman, so i need to do it now , if you would like to know how that is done i can show it to you. I can be a teacher for a minute :)
you cut your 150hz information cuz of slope of the filter. kinda unprofessional
Trying to think how I could do this on fl...
I miss milo & Otis
Nice chords tho.
Who is the lady by the way? lol
seems a little overkill(graham) could of just sidechained only bass and not the whole group
Did the puppet evolve into a human
i have no idea what's happening here..
I don't understand why you're using another EQ on compressor on 670Hz if you already have one on 170Hz. You just overwrite tho other low pass at 670. That's the difference. You just cut more.
You are confused about your own technique!
Sounds like you're the confused one. The first EQ limits what frequencies will be compressed, the second decide what frequencies will trigger the compression. As he says, if you don't want the compression to active from any sound of the kick, but just from certain frequencies of it, you use the EQ sidechain.
BUNTY
Mind you this video has been cut and edited, but imagine taking this long in the studio... I honestly think videos should be deleted after some time and deliberately refreshed.
If five minutes is too long, you may want to switch to using UA-cam shorts instead for your content 🤷🏼♂️
@@ReidStefanMusic Indeed
“A deadmau5 sounding sidechain”...really...? You’re really gonna put down arguably the best sound designer/mixing artist? 🤦🏽♂️
