Imagine sitting next to this happening having a quiet meal not realizing an actual member of ClownCore is playing behind you...
Man yall really loud mouthed about that lol, a women should always keep her secrets lool
dont get it :(
@M D listen to clown core pls there good
*allegedly*
Exactly my thoughts! All those people will never know that all his turds go straight to hell.
Im surprised people are walking by.
I find Sam to be a minimalist musical genius. He utilizes silence as well as Miles Davis. This music is an act of meditation in motion.
I respect his work and his pushing music forward.
Keep up the amazing work, Sam. You're impressing many of us.
The natural sounds of the environment (people taking, water flowing, general noise) makes me feel like this video is not just a live performance but a studio quality take as well of his music.
I've noticed Gendel's does this a lot in his live performances, definitely inspired by John Cage. As we all should be honestly.
I love that the two deep in conversation are in the center of the frame then they just stop and watch when he starts looping in a drum beat using a loop pedal and the body of his saxophone.
I love the station announcements with the music. It blends with his ambient style nicely.
love how he plays each note so carefully and thoughtfully, as if they were covered in eggshells, or they were going to be his last.
fuck this is a good comment
Any moment could be any of our last moments.
poetic
Yup, in one end and out the other.
Based?
turned the whole building into art
Years from now we'll be looking back and this and seeing how much he aided in pushing jazz forward. Good stuff.
Love that haunting keyboard intro, those two chords and the timbre is like a classic DX7 patch and a bit reminiscent of one of my all time favorite TV Music themes, the opening to the original 'Law & Order' show, from the 1990s.
This guy is great. His music is what 21. century music may be imagined to be. I have seen also his Death Valley clip, again 21. century pop there, very new approach. Fantastic!
amazing recording, you can hear him so clearly despite the noise of an entire station
sam is one of the greatest musicians of our time.
Agreed.
Him and Louis both.
@@andrewjordan1750 louis i'm not so sure
This is absolute musical genius at work. The versatility of Sam Gendel as an artist is incredible.
18:00 The voice announcement is blended with music so beautifully as if it was intended from the start.
True artist and reason I love Clowncore 👍
Did anyone else see Sam Wilkes in the background?
This music gives me good feelings.... my ultimate compliment. so nice to have a quiet attentive audience at a busy public place... very unusual.
26:25 is just perfection

Gendel is a complete genius...at 30:01 the train tracks sound, and he is in a train station and the synth's overtone on the sax represents the train signalling and then you have the all on board broadcast from the train stations speakers. and the harmony, the dexterity. The beauty of his melody is something I have never heard before.
Yeah i agree he is in an elite category of artists who can make those one time only kind of tracks that cant ever be replicated again (possibly even by himself) . Anyone thats produced music knows exactly what i mean when you manage to connect to something and are totally in the zone and record or produce a track or whatever and then dont realise how you managed to pull it all off and put in all the subtle nuances and other little trills and harmonic overtones. That album he did with his little stepsister a few months back called "LIVE A LITTLE" is a perfect example of how utterly genius the guy is (plus that Antonina has some serious talent for a kid) ; they both just came up with that album in like a jam setting and did it all in one take . It is insane, one of my most listened to albums of 2022 by far man and is truly something special .
Lol since when is that what train tracks sound like? Sounds like a horse.
Damn he sounding like a choo choo playing choo choo sounds at the choo choo station... D E E P
May 19, 2109? Music from the future indeed.
Audience was so lucky they had no idea
pink hair finishes her beer at 26:17
Thanks...was wondering when she'd finish her beverage
I find it very cool to see Gendel's various interests in music styles, from Knower to Wilkes to soloing to do Nascimento. So creative!
And clowncore
Wait...he's the dude from knower??
Shout out to Fabiano!!!
@@jasonlovallo1785 Yes
@@dennman1 I appreciate ya. I have since dived deep into the rabbit hole and discovered each project and those associated with Sam and Louis. Its been amazballs
Wow! An incredibly beautiful merging of live music and live ambient sounds!
yeah, the voice in the background announcing departures or whatever felt like a planned part of the song
Best jazz artist working today.
be real, one of the beast…
Close....he knows a bunch more that make him complete, sam wilkes, louis cole, Genevieve........
Colin Stetson
Statements like this really do a disservice to anyone involved.
U can not be serious.... Brooooooo
this is so calm and chill. fucking love gendel's work so much
I love Sam's music, I didn't know about this direction in his work, I love Jon Hassell so this was an easy sell, brilliant
that first track is amazing
Amazing, love this guy. Thanks LA Times for the heads up. Jazzing it up since the 70's..
This is one of my favorite live shows I have ever seen, the context made it everything, thank you for recording. Sams and Ana Roxannes set was bonkers good.
sam gendel is a genious!
*genuous
@@aplus1080 hehe, right. cheers
Heard this man on Mike D’s Echo Chamber talking about a record called Cicadas and Crickets. Now I’m a fan.
🎉
Sam, tienes las capacidades del saber absoluto.
Tù puedes iluminar el Mundo y goberarlo con tu Ser 🎉 GRACIAS
Discovered this brilliant artist from the movie Malcom and Marie and I'm sold. I am going to find everything he has put his hands on. Freaking brilliant. I'm in love
Knower and Clown Core
Never imagined Clown C0re leading me here! been overdosing on Knower and all things Louis Cole and Sam Gendel ever since. The guys are absolute geniuses
The best stuff is his collaboration with bassist Sam Wilkes.
2nd tune blew my mind
nevermind the whole thing did
Thank you for being such a great musical documentarian!!
9:54 The weirdest Satin Doll I ever heard. Love it!!!
It’s Summer Wind, not Satin Doll
31:00 perfect ambience, just love the announcement voices
carrying through the waves
This was a nice come down from binging Knower. It's been a trip man.
Thanks so much for posting.
So glad someone recorded this set :)
Dude! Just saw you doing that operatic production with the Getty! Unbelievable! You're an amazing artist, brother! Love all your work, and especially with Wilkes and Cole! But, you are currently one of the best jazz musicians on planet earth, in my opinion. *all aboard!* ;)
Is there a link to that operatic production with the Getty you mentioned?
Sam Gendel just popped up randomly and wow.
More please!
so brilliant
incredible
Love you Sam.
7:20 Sam Wilkes
you see him at the start in the back right, too
So good. I love what Sam does with sound 😁
Fantastic!
this is really dope & deep
Literally music from the future if the description is anything to go by.
I dunno, i would say is more like timeless music imho
Very good!
❤ the sax😊 player❤✌️🙏
Never disappoints.
amazing
YES
KCRW FM brought me here, via Anthony & Novena (10/22/2021 morning broadcast).
Long live Pharoah Sanders' ear. Persist.
Make the damned train wait, I'm listening to something here!
sounds like he covered "Cosmic Love" by Joe McPhee, around 16min in
Gettin it! 🎶 🎵
would love a high quality recording of this
Really beautiful.
This comment section is sacred af
Sam has given me a new appreciation for saxophone I always thought they were cheesey because of Bob Seger and crappy 80s pop
Soooo beautiful indeed. Ahhh, thank you Sam. Appreciate Daniel for capturing this musical architecture.
Btw, does anybody know which small keyboard does he play?
update: ok, somehow i saw 'suzuki' on the back of the keybaord and it led me to this... -> Suzuki Waraku III TES-371 Electric Nagoya Harp Taishogoto Synthesizer
wuhu!!! 😊
So good. Instafan...
Nice
lol you can see sam wilkes there in the background
Hek yeah
something about him waiting for the announcements lady to finish talking -- as if it's part of the music (as is the sound of ppl talking on the background)
mad
jeez i don't even know what to comment.
Sam did you write those short poems? For the man from the Bay. They were beautiful your very talented.
Is that Sam Wilkes casually walking by? 7:20
Yes
The C418 of saxophone, could actually just mine diamonds to this all night lol
A resemblance to Moondog comes to mind...
The album gives me Moonchild vibes....
First tune is like Ambient Jazz w/ an Avant Garde twist. Brian Eno's Music for Airports meets Jan Garbarek (and then some!)..or maybe a Cooler Toned John Zorn w/ Mark Turner leanings....Beautiful and a bit unsettling....'Satin Doll Underwater' is the second tune?
Neighbors who do not want to understand what's going on around oh sorry…
Good luck, have fun & thank you for what you make @ & thk u again for your vibez
13:00 Joe McPhee - Cosmic Love
have the same speakers qsc k12 :)
Imagine standing there listening to the actual ClownCore member and then suddenly realizing that you are Sam Wilkes.
Anyone know if there's a list of his gear anywhere online?
Lots of extras in the background
Can somebody tell me how does the sax manages to get those sounds? It sounds like Jon Hassel
He uses pedals
Is the first tune a Bobby Hutcherson tune? Someone help me
WHEW
What’s happening 8:20-8:30?
What effect is he using to play his sax notes back as chords? I want so badly to check that out
Best song starts at 24:15
Any idea if this tune has a name? It's so fucking nice
It’s called Miss you Sonny
What keyboard is he using??
Is any of this material released so i can listen to it somewhere?
Just search fresh bread by sam gendel
Am I tripping or is Pino Paladino @8:09?
What is the name of the first track, if released?
anybody know what kind of keyboard that is?
I think it's the Suzuki Waraku III. He mentions it in his nonesuch interview for his album DRM. Hard to see it from the video's angle, but thats what it is.
@@nathanradich9374 thats awesome! thanks
I'll be late to work . . .
Why is this sped up?
That note at 9:10 had me feeling weird for some reason
6:57 - 7:40
Sounds like screams for help.
