      100% agree. I was thinking the exact same thing. This is absolutely ridiculous. I am throwing this thing away and the first question for my next washer, is where is the filter? And I will never purchase another electrolux washer or dryer. The dryer is a nightmare as well with clogging exhaust fan with lint.

    So you have to go through all this just to clean the filter? Older models had an access panel on the front for that purpose. Who in their right mind would make this change?

      This was the biggest single issue why I decided not to buy Electrolux. It's not uncommon to need to clean or replace the water filter. I had to do it several times with my previous washer. Going through this procedure even once is a chore.

      This design drives sales for dealer service departments. No
      practical advantage for the consumer. An access
      door in front or on the side would be easy and anyone could clean the filter as needed . Won’t buy Electrolux again.

    Thank you guys so much for this video. Just completed it in 45 minutes. Cancel the repair call that was coming in on Wednesday. Our sump was completely full with rubber as we did a mat in there which must’ve been old enough to deteriorate. One thing people shouldpay very close attention to is when you are re-attaching the four prong pin they can easily bend. I had to use a magnifying headset to correct them and then attach it. Other than that everything was good, Rl pump area was even simpler than the one in the video.

    Thank you for making this video. I followed it to the T. I do have a couple of suggestions though. The first is suggesting to the viewer a way of draining the washer first. In the video, everything is dry. When I took the clamps off the hoses, water came out and drained to the back of the washer and onto the towels I laid down. I then used another towel to dry up the areas inside of the washer that got wet. My hope is that none of the electrical stuff was affected. My second suggestion is the view of the clamp that had to be unscrewed. The view in the video is from the back, which confused me. I think it should be viewed from the front of the washer, since only the front of the washer is off, if you follow the instructions to the T. So, besides that, your video helped me out greatly! Thank you again 😁👍

    This took me just under an hour with no helper. 1/4 nut driver fits the 7 mm clamp for the filter. If you have the pedestals you don’t even have to tip it back before removing the lower 4 screws. That said easy access to anything on the machine labeled a filter would be nice.

    2 questions regarding this procedure... 1. How often this has to be done? On the previous model, where there is a small access panel on the front of the washer, they say on that panel "CLEAN THE FILTER ONCE A MONTH'
    2. Would doing all this - basically taking apart good chunk of the machine have any effect on the warranty like 'doing an unauthorized repairs' thus voiding the manufacturers warranty???

    This job was an absolute nightmare and I am mechanically inclined. After cleaning the filter putting it back 1) the filter must be lined up properly inside of the hose 2) The hose must be lined up properly to the top piece. When I tightened the hose clamp the hose kept slipping below the very tiny lip to secure it above the clamp. It took me 90 minutes to "hopefully get it secure. This is a horrible design. Electrolux (Whirlpool) lost a customer over this. This is terrible that I have to go through this to clean a leaking filter on a two year old washing machine that cost over $1,000,

    Thanks for this! Have a tiny bit of dirty water coming out on the floor, under the machine. Having taken it apart, I think the tube seal may be worn a bit given the light spray pattern going around the inside of the machine body. I'm tightening all the tub bolts first to see if that helps. Glad I saw this video. Might as well check the filter while I'm in there.
    I can't believe the whining about this being "hard". Sure, could be a bit more user accessible, but we've got 10+ years on ours and this will be the first service on it, and I've never "had" to clean the filter. We shall see how bad it is. Really though, this is an easy job, done in under 30 mins. Must be a bunch of under 40 types whining having never done anything with their hands and tools before.
    Thanks again! I'll report back if I find any monsters!

      So what was the issue? I am having a similar problem, small amount of water on floor.

    • @wingnutbert9685
      @wingnutbert9685 14 днів тому

      @@jimmac216 I got it all opened up and saw a ring of spray around the inside of the washer panels. So I feel the tube halves seal was maybe leaking a bit. But I think there was also another, more significant leak somewhere. I did give all the tub shell bolts a snugging up. I felt all around and looked, but couldn't find anything that indicated where the bulk of the water was coming from. It was still leaking once I put it back together. Of note, the water looked quite clean. So I'd think that'd would indicate a leak on the input side. But again, I couldn't detect where with it apart. Given the mucking about it was going to take and possible parts ordering and expense of chasing down the problem, and time w/o a machine, I just ordered basically the newer version from Costco. On balance, a 12+ year old modern machine is likely going to break elsewhere a month after you've fixed one thing. Not worth the waste of money at that age. So just replaced the dryer as well, buying the new units as a pair. Told the delivery/install fella that the old dryer still worked and what the issue was with the new. He was a good guy, new to the country. If he wanted to take, fix and sell either or both, power to him. They just get tossed in the dump anyway.

    I don't know if you'll see this but, like someone else said, I'm having an impossible time getting the wire clamp to seal around the tub drain. I could really use more detail about how they go together. It looks like there's just not enough of a tube for the wire clamp to bite on. There's a very slightly raised lip around that tube...i assume the boot goes over that lip? But the boot just doesn't want to go that far. It seems like the boot needs to be a quarter inch longer or something. Every time I try to tighten it, the top edge of the boot slips down into the outflow side (which is cut out of the drain tube from the drum). I'm pretty much at my wit's end. But I'd hate to throw out the washer now that I'm literally one connection away from it working again. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I even looked at the clamp to make sure it wasn't deformed. It looks fine.

    I saw a video for this repair on an Electrolux washer (not sure the model) and the guy went in from the bottom of the washer (tilted it back at a 45 degree angle) as there was a large access area on the bottom. Anyone know if that's possible vs going in from the front or rear?

    • @conphuzed1
      @conphuzed1 8 місяців тому

      Yes you can go thru the bottom. Watch "How to fix an Electrolux WASHER THAT WON'T DRAIN". I have a perfect steam Electrolux and the opening is located more center, on the bottom. The washer needs to be leaned 45 degrees or flat onto the right side of the washer to access the opening. Use a 1/4" socket to loosen the ring clamp. The rubber boot, holding the coin/filter holder, can be pulled down from the tub drain fitting and you can stick your finger into the filter. If you can feel cloth, (baby sox) etc. you could try a bent wire clothes hanger to fish out what you can't grab with your fingers. On my machine I had to unclamp the rubber boot inlet going to the top of the washer. I should of used a bent, flattened coat hanger tip into and around the rubber outlet, to break the seal. This allowed me to rotate the rubber boot to take out the plastic filter cage and clean it out. The filter was clean so I removed 2 more clamps for the pump to remove it. Took less than 45 minutes but I'm sure it will take longer to assemble. The hose clamps are hard to compress with a channel lock plyer.

      If you take the outside drain hose out of the wall drain, and put it lower than the tub, gravity will drain it.
      That's why washer drains go up before they go down.

I'd say Electrolux is excellent, but maybe not for folks with dogs that shed a lot. Because this clean out is a big pain, tbh. Especially if you have a stacked set.

      @@amabar3647 my wife would never allow "gunk" to build up on the door. I'll admit the first thing I checked was to make sure a hair or thread wasn't between the door and door seal. It was clean so that wasn't the problem. It was difficult to see against the white paint, and it only happened for a short period of time during the wash cycle, but the water was actually dripping from the corner of the detergent dispensing drawer to the top of the door and running around the door's edge. Turns out the detergent drawer has a design defect. It has a two piece construction and the bottom half was sagging causing a gap which allowed small amounts of water to get through. I glued and clamped the drawer letting it dry overnight. No problems since.

    DISASSEMBLE THE ENTIRE ELECTROLUX MACHINE??? How could this machine pass any design review inspections? Model# ELFS617STT. I feel dumb... actually thought I had purchased higher-end machine(s)! Not even an access door or mention of needing to clean a filter monthly in Installation or User Guide/Manual. With pedestal in the way I am looking at removing R-side panel too. Hope nothing else breaks during this process and re-build is successful. This feels like a bad joke.
    I do appreciate your video, as it has been very hard to find any legit trouble-shooting for this hunk of junk! I understand you didn't design the machine, but wanted to comment in case it saves someone else from buying. Electrolux Dryer was replaced under mfg. warranty.

    I just found this video and ..big nope. Throw it away and get a new one. Because if you call service just to clean that filter every few months it will cost you more than a new washer. The worst design ever, but I think it's intentional. Buy new washers every 2 years. Don't get me started on their dryer. I have them both for 2 years now. No major issues yet, but if they break, I am looking for a washer with the filter situated at the front so I can clean it. We had front load for years back in Europe, and all had the filter in front for better cleaning. Never had to fix it or do any repairs.
