This programme has been uploaded on the 80th Anniversary of Al's passing, and Al's story in this, the final part of the series, takes us up to his premature death during the London Blitz. 80 years on and Al is still warmly remembered and his recordings are much valued and enjoyed.

Fantastic! Al Bowlly and Roy Hudd. Both are missed. So much music died with one and so much popular entertainment knowledge died with the other. An emotional six series on seral levels. A belated thanks to both. Love REALLY IS the sweetest thing!

Excellent series. Thank you . I read somewhere Al had been killed by a parachute mine , which hit his flat. It had exploded in another part of the building, but the pressure had blown the door off its hinges and struck him on the head. Not discernible marks. He probably never knew what happened, so he apparently never suffered. He was a marvelous singer.

Hoping sincerely he was killed instantly and didn't realise what had happened, or suffered. It hit outside his apartment block and he had come home from a gig, foolishly with a blitz raid in full tilt. He'd declined offers of accommodation in London that night. Found unmarked (not sure that can be believed when it was at such close range, under an off its hinges door)) having been blown out of bed. Poor darling man. Seems the Greek Orthodox church in the district, created a memorial, otherwise he lies in a mass grave.
