I have had an issue like this. Had a customer who couldn't afford to pay us and she came out in their underwear. I felt like I was in a p*rn movie. I kept my pants on cause even if I wanted to (I didn't lol) I would still have to cover this person bill... And that's going to be a no for me lol
Christa Miller had a second role on Scrubs in addition to playing Jordan. She also, over the course of the show, became the unofficial music supervisor (she was officially credited for this role for season 9 but that doesn't count). She chose songs to feature in Scrubs episodes. People would come to her with a suggestion and she'd listen to it, decide if it was good enough to be in the show, then play it for Bill to see if he agreed with her that it fit the moment it was recommended for. If it didn't, she might find a use for it later. So many of the amazing songs used in the show are because of her, including the work of Colin Hay, who was featured multiple times, most beautifully in the sequence where a patient dies and it plays out like a broadway musical, with the cast of Scrubs singing Colin Hay's song "I'm Waiting for my Real Life to Begin".
To be fair, it wouldn't be an american medical dramedy without a doctor sleeping with a patient :) No matter how fired that would get you in real life. It's also an interesting question as to who's taking advantage of the power dynamic here. Sure, JD's the doctor, but Jordan is a board member who we find out can clearly influence the trajectory of people's careers while JDs just an intern, not to mention Jordan seemed to be admitted almost as a formality. It feels like if the genders were reversed and an older male board member (or even Dr. Kelso) were to be one of Elliot's patients and demanded sexual intercourse from her like Jordan did from JD, people would be more sympathetic to Elliot. 1:15 I think what you're saying is good advice generally but also not in character for Dr. Cox. He broke the rules to help a patient who doesn't have insurance, so in his eyes (and in mine too tbh) he doesn't really have anything to apologize for. Sure, it would probably be more pragmatic for him to, but he's never been one to kiss the asses of the board in order to help his career. It's one of those situations where I think the show does a good job breaking from realism for the sake of good character development.
Best dialogue from this episode: JD: Your ex-wife, she's the answer. Dr. Cox: Things that ruined my life, Things that took half my money Things with sharp edges!
I was just diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy back in November. Super scary situation. I fainted and felt like I was having a heart attack. Had to wear a life vest for 6 months until I finally had a test done and a device implanted in my chest. I don't recommend any of it! Nice reaction, as usual.
My cousin broke his femur when he was 7 in a bike accident. He had to be in traction at the hospital for weeks. Then he had a cast over the entire length of his leg that also wrapped. around his waist. When he finally got it off, he has black hair like a grown man's all down his leg. His accident occurred in the first week of summer vacation.
When you mentioned the stent or bypass being related to the heart my first thought was "what if he's talking about a fem-pop bypass?" I figured that was just a side effect of watching this video after a TV Sins video but you were right on top of that. Love the video, so happy you're continuing with Scrubs!
Exactly. It was his shy persona that was scared of her. I mean technically she took advantage of his low self esteem. So couldn't you even say that this is a real No-no thing?
No one ever says no to Jordan- Jordan gets what Jordan wants! Dr. Cox tried saying no to her, and they ended up getting back together and having 2 kids 🤣
I hadn't thought about Scrubs in a while and this is such a fun way to enjoy it again. Sorely needed at the moment, at a bit of a low point with chronic pain. Thank you!
I always thought this... scene with JD and his pants down is one of his dream sequences. Then a sentence from a great episode "My Screw Up" S3 E14 makes sense all of a sudden.
"I always thought this... scene with JD and his pants down is one of his dream sequences." This is not the case. Jordan tells Dr Cox that she slept with JD at the end of season 1.
Another great reaction, thank you. I was watching a scrubs scene yesterday thats always stuck with me that made wonder if you would consider reacting to amazing scenes in less than memorable episodes
6:29 You forgot to finish your thought. “NEVER take off your pants…unless Christa Miller tells you too.” (You can always change careers) But in all seriousness. I think JD would be seen as the victim in his little rendezvous, because she is a board member of the hospital, and she demanded that he take his pants off. The power imbalance weighs on her.
Quick question, 20 years ago would they really have plastered the whole of Carla's mums femur fracture, down to the toes? 8:22 we can see the cast, not sure if actually even goes up to her thigh either. I heard no mention of tib fib or ankle/foot in the diagnoses. Wouldn't they just have pinned it?
TO be fair to JD, he hardly took advantage of Jorden, if anything, SHE took advantage of him. He is a meek, shy nerd and she is practically a force of nature who can keep up with Cox in terms of sheer venom, snark and spite.
Just coz she tried/sucseeded in taking advantage of her doesn't mean he didn't take advantage of her/do a bad thing. Sure he's "a meek, shy nerd" but that's not how he acted at all in that situation, we know he was faking it coz of the 4th wall breaks/narration from his pov but from what she or anyone else would have experienced is a dr misinterpreting an invitation into the bathroom and then inappropriately and aggressively telling her off. He's just lucky that she's into that... and we should all be somewhat jealous
Not only did Jordan have a dominating personality, but she was on the board of the hospital! So it really was a power imbalance that she was exploiting.
While it is true the “exploitation” was mutual, the reason you down have relationships between doctors and patients isn’t about exploitation. It’s about potentially having those relationships impact your professional performance some time allow the way, which it inevitably will, no matter who instigated it or who breaks it off.
Yeah, her personality is "take, Dr. Cox, make woman, make hot, make sure she knows it." Frankly, if she wasn't Perry's ex-wife, she would have been a secondary love interest, as opposed to a tertiary one, though that has more to do with the fact that JD can't see an attractive woman without shoot his shot... pun not intended but I will double down on it.
Jordon is in the hospital board, in a way she’s JDs boss. The issue her is not that JD slept with a patient it’s that his superior at work demanded sex from him.
In one of my emergency room clinicals, my preceptor (a nurse) told me that it wouldn't be a weekend without doing an enema. Apparently, that hospital was in an area with a large elderly population. We also got a femur fracture that was displaced, and the nurse showed me how the leg shortened on the fractured leg
One reason why things like disimpacting a colon might be MUCH more common in the US is that we tend to wait a lot longer to go to the hospital for financial reasons. Generally people aren't going to be there until they've already tried things like laxatives at home and reached a point where they know nothing is going to work and the pain is too much to tolerate. Some people won't even go in then and would have to collapse and be brought in by emergency services. My grandfather died of a bowel blockage because he refused to seek treatment he couldn't afford.
I don't know if you plan where the adds is in the video, but I got Dr. Hope being dumbstruck and saying "Never take off you pants" and then cut to comercials. Perfection :D
Loving the trip down memory lane with you. I love and miss scrubs so much. Any chance you could do a breakdown of the new Arnold Schwarzenegger series FUBAR? It's got some great fight scenes that might be fun to analyze. Generally pretty PG, too.
As some people have already discussed, the sleeping with a patient scene. JD has a habit of getting tossed around by strong women. It happens at least 2-3 times in the show. Too afraid to say no, i´m afraid....
Please do a medical reaction video to Robocop (by Paul Verhoeven), particularly to the scene of Murphy’s shooting at the hands of Boddicker’s gang, and the subsequent attempted resuscitation in the hospital. Supposedly, the medical team was played by an actual trauma team.
I'm close to someone who had to get a divorce after finding out her husband was having an affair with his nurse while he was staying at the hospital for several weeks. Unfortunately, it's not entirely unrealistic for medical staff to be sleeping with patients.
Like in any other profession, affairs and hookups happen at work. You are after all spending hours on end, at least 5 days a week with them. It happens
Stints scare me. I have a 10% block in my right coronary artery. It's mild now, and that's not in my immediate future. I get atrial spasms sometimes and need nitroglycerin. Luckily, it doesn't happen that often. My doctor says, "we'll keep an eye on it." So all I am left with is to try to make healthy lifestyle changes and hope nothing progresses. I'm 55 now.
The ethics question honestly goes both ways, because she's a hospital board member who can absolutely get J.D. fired. So it's extremely unethical any way you slice it.
It's weird that you never pointed out how unprofessional the doctor's behaviour was with that woman. She's his patient. He's not supposed to drool over her looks. He is supposed to treat her condition.
the wild part that you don't learn actually in the show is that they've only been separated for 18 months when this episode hits. combine that with the episode where we learn that Cox's previous protege also slept with Jordan all of their split is so fresh.
To be fair to JD the woman in question was a major donor to the Hospital, so he was taking one for the team. In the UK we have the NHS so everyone is a donor, so it's just not possible to sleep with everyone so they help doctor's out by telling them they can't sleep with any patients.
Does anyone else, who's a non-medical professional, get excited when they don't need a medical term explained by the lovely Dr. Hope? I do; and then I remember that it's because I have so many medical issues i've lost count... presyncopie and occasional syncopie, in this instance, though in my case nothing to do with blood pressure...
I did fracture the tip of my femur in 7th grade. Slipped on a tile floor on Jan 2 right out of the gate after Christmas vacation. Was it realistic to put a cast on Carla's mother? I didn't get one since you can't really wrap up a hip.
Speaking of dating or just having relations with a patient. Obviously, while you're treating them, it's not acceptable. But surely there must be a point where it becomes acceptable again, right? Is it immediately after they get discharged or is there a grace period or is it a case by case thing?
You should totally add some more personal stories! Like how your boss made you jump through a hoop, or how you've heard of a relationship between a doctor and a patient that ended bad or good. Maybe also how a doctor and a nurse got to be together?)) I know chances of you knowing such cases are not great, but still, there is still HOPE:)))
Love your videos and love learning all this medical science you breakdown! In the future I recommend Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr. or even World War Z cause those are 2 movies that do have quite a lot of medical science. Not sure how much of it is accurate but it would be an interesting breakdown. Thanks for reading and enjoy your day (or night)! 🌞🌛🤝
But if Carla's mum's diagnosis was broken thigh, why in the next shot is her leg in the package? Shouldn't it be something like full leg at that point?
You say all these medical terms are easy to understand when you break them down. Counter argument... I can feel my brain short circuiting whenever I try to remember the name of my own medication that I've been on for over 5 years. No amount of breaking it down will help when I need to look at the box 3 times to remember it's called Sertraline.
Regarding it being out of character for JD: I'd have to disagree. For one, Jordan was being very dominant, telling him to take off his pants. It actually suits JD's meekness really well to just obey that kind of order, especially since it's clear he's attracted to her from the moment he sees her. If he'd been the one to initiate the encounter, then I'd agree with you, but the way it went down does seem in character for JD. I will say though, that based on the rest of the series, if anything it's Jordan who's acting out of character. This is the only on-screen instance of her hooking up with a Sacred Heart employee, the only other (off-screen) instance being revealed as the cause for Jordan and Dr Cox's divorce prior to the start of the show. While Jordan probably didn't know JD's connection to Dr Cox, sleeping with one of his colleagues seems like a very hurtful thing to do (especially in their case) and though she and Dr Cox do torment each other throughout the show, it's always with a certain playfulness, rather than being mean-spirited.
Unfortunately doctors in the US don't value patients' autonomy. I've lost count of the number of times I've been told I "HAVE" to do whatever the doctors want me to. I hope it's better in the UK.
Couldn't press quick enough. How I missed these videos.
Thanks, already recorded the next one, so it's coming sooooon
"never take of your pants" sage advice, not just for future doctors but almost all professions
funny enough that later episode where turk gets diagnosed with diabetes, he sees that doctor who always has his patients take off their pants lmao
I have had an issue like this. Had a customer who couldn't afford to pay us and she came out in their underwear. I felt like I was in a p*rn movie. I kept my pants on cause even if I wanted to (I didn't lol) I would still have to cover this person bill... And that's going to be a no for me lol
there are dozens of us, DOZENS!!!
Except for Porn industry
phrasing the ethics rule that particular way made me laugh out loud, brilliant
"Never take off your pants!" - Ed Hope, 2023. 😂😂😂

Jordon is on the hospital board. And as we saw her vote helped Cox keep his job. She held the power in that situation not JD.
@@keeperofnecronomiconthat is what they literally said
Yes! So glad to see you continue this. Scrubs is such a good series and your insight is great.
Best dialogue from this episode:
JD: Your ex-wife, she's the answer.
Dr. Cox: Things that ruined my life,
Things that took half my money
Things with sharp edges!
The way you break down medical terms is super helpful. Just wanted to say thanks for that. 😊
"Never... take off your pants." 🤣
Never take off your pants.

weird! i suppose the hair all fell off eventually?
Wait, Jordan is on the board for the hospital, he's an intern, there's more of a power imbalance there right? She's in the wrong there too.
Always happy to see another Scrubs reaction from you!
When you mentioned the stent or bypass being related to the heart my first thought was "what if he's talking about a fem-pop bypass?" He's not a sleaze who takes advantage of patients. He lacks self-esteem and therefore is a yes-man. Couldn't say no to her.
Exactly. It was his shy persona that was scared of her. I mean technically she took advantage of his low self esteem.
So couldn't you even say that this is a real No-no thing?
@@TheLibermania She's his patient but she's also his boss in a way.
@@TheLibermania It's a no-no thing, but if anyone's the victim it's JD.
@@UnsoberIdiot That's exactly what i mean. I do like to use the "Other way around technique". Imagine JD telling her to take her pants off.

Jordan from Scrubs is the love of my life. Did not know she was the wife of the creator.
She was also in Bill Lawrence's later series Cougar Town, playing pretty much the same character (which I like).

Yes, Jordan was JD's patient, BUT she was also a board member. Who was really taking advantage of whom?
Hi, I think the only time that you cannot leave the hospital if you want is if you are under section. Keep up with the good content :)
To be fair to JD the woman in question was a major donor to the Hospital, so he was taking one for the team. In the UK we have the NHS so everyone is a donor, so it's just not possible to sleep with everyone so they help doctor's out by telling them they can't sleep with any patients.

Probably a stupid question, but would a cast actually cover someone's shin and foot like that for a femoral fracture?
Love your videos doctor!
I did fracture the tip of my femur in 7th grade. Slipped on a tile floor on Jan 2 right out of the gate after Christmas vacation. Was it realistic to put a cast on Carla's mother? I didn't get one since you can't really wrap up a hip.

If Jorden has cardiac hypertrophy, then I'm a supermodel.
Now my tongue is depressed.
After using a tongue depressor, do you give the patient anti-depressants? You know...for the depressed tongue..? 😂🙈🙈
I’m JD’s defense, Jordan is a dominant personality & he’s the opposite. He really had no control in that situation lol
Unfortunately doctors in the US don't value patients' autonomy. I've lost count of the number of times I've been told I "HAVE" to do whatever the doctors want me to. I hope it's better in the UK.
