  • Static breaks the fourth wall for the first time at the end of the Season 2 episode Jimmy when talking about how guns shouldn’t be used by kids.
He does it again when talking about dyslexia (with help from Rubberband Man) in the Season 4 episode Where the Rubber Meets the Road.

“Do your part to increase the peace out there.” I have always loved that message!

It’s too bad there aren’t more kids shows that actually teach the kids about important issues like this.

Reminds me of that Family Matters episode “The Gun”. At the end, Jaleel White & Kellie Shanygne Williams came on with a public service announcement

I wish they had done one for the racism episode. Would have been a heartfelt speech to hear about loving each other for who we are and not making an issue about the color of a person's skin.

Man... you don't get PSAs that much in kids shows anymore. This was back when cartoons were completely woke. They told you about this type of stuff, aside from the entertainment.

I think that's because before they were episodic, but now they try to tell a story, like Adventure Time

It has nothing to do with episodic vs. story-driven cartoons. Many episodic cartoons were able to have PSAs as well. As with a lot of things, it's all up to money and PC culture. Money, because more time on the characters telling a PSA means less time of the characters trying to win over kid's hearts to get them to buy toys. PC culture, because when you do a PSA, you risk cutting yourself off of certain political groups that otherwise wouldn't care about the cartoon, and you also open yourself up to being sued.

We need shows like this again, shows that deal with real world topics and issues, that way kids teens and young adults like me can get the help and advice we need to stay safe and grow

I remember watching the episode about where Richie gets shot. That was a good episode and I agree with the people who said it should be shown in school. I think TV Guide was the place where I heard about the episode because they were praising Static Shock for taking the subject seriously. For a show that is geared towards kids, adults can enjoy it too and it taught good lessons not only about gun violence, but about racism, illiteracy and I think about things like multiple personality disorder too. Yet another reason I miss Kids’ WB! Not only could you have fun watching shows like Static Shock, but they taught some important lessons without talking down to the audience. Good job to the people who worked on the show.

That gun psa is important today then ever before. This would be a great episode for schools to kids to teach them about gun safety.

This was a cartoon that taught you lessons for real life. They don't make them like they used to anymore though.

I once found a Real Gun in Grandma Sheppard's House in one of the Beds when I was a Kid. When I Found it I ran down and told my Mom.

0:09 love it how the whole school is black except for like 2 girls, and yet the only white boy is the one with the handgun
