Really enjoying this game! I love the different mini-games per class without being overly complex, the constant drip feed of items, the variety of behavior with the roaming monsters, etc. I really like the art direction as well. I'm quite glad to have this as my "light dungeon crawler" for my collection.
The minis also work really well for DnD and are quite fun to paint.
Interesting to hear so much positive things about MD2.
I just opened my core box today can't wait to try it
this is my fav game now, thks for the review
Thanks for going over this game. I skipped this KS since Massive Darkness 1 looked boring and didn't review great. Awesome to see that they actually fixed it and made a fun game.
Big fan of my plays of MD2.
Campaign mode adds some of the progression you were talking about in other dungeon crawls. Level up to 10 over a campaign.
Do you think the campaign mode is worth it? or just stick with the core box?
Hi Shea, Thanks for the review! Before this I also watched your video about Deliverance. If one prefers one-shot solo games and tactics over luck then how would you compare these together? Or maybe another game? I have ZC 2nd Ed. Although I like it very much, but after tons of games I feel that game is too simple. The scenarios told to be hard are... just starting with higher luck or handicap but after you find some useful weapons the game gets flat, move, then attack when you roll... oh cool, or hm, maybe next time.
Well it's been almost two years since I played Massive Darkness, so I'm a little less fresh on that one. But I do remember both it and Deliverance having a decent amount of strategy to go with the luck. Massive Darkness is more of a dice chucker than Deliverance, so in that respect Deliverance is definitely less luck-based. And when I was playing Deliverance I was doing it solo controlling two players, which worked out well for me. Again, can't remember Massive Darkness too well, so it's difficult for me to compare, but if luck is a significant concern for you, I guess Deliverance might be a better choice.
I wonder how is this one compare to Descent 2nd Edition? Im looking for a fast pickup dungeon crawler and not too complex for setup and gameplay difficulties.
Afraid I haven't tried Descent 2e, but I would say that the complexity on this one isn't too bad. Set up takes a minute, but I've definitely played dungeon crawlers that take longer, and once you learn how your class plays, it's pretty easy to pick up and play.
Sold mine a while back. I found it a big setup, a lot more fiddly rules compared to zombicide and so much stuff.
I like big heavy dungeon crawls, but felt this was a lot to deal with for what's a very shallow and often short game.
Have you played any recent Zombicide to compare to? Curious how it stacks up against it?
Great insights either way!
Thanks! Unfortunately I haven't played Zombicide since its early days, but there was a bit of a familiarity there. This game definitely felt more dynamic and less random than 1st edition Zombicide, if that helps.
watch this for all the comparison you could ever need ua-cam.com/video/QZrcg_8clQ0/v-deo.html
different games really, zombicide is more about the zombies themselves were MD2 is more about the unique asymmetric hero classes. also, the gameplay is a little different where in zombicide the map will increasingly get more zombies in number, in MD2 that doesn't happen as much, the mobs just get harder and they travel more in set packs. Interestingly there is a zombicide crossover pack for MD2 where if you already own zombicide black plague/green horde minis, you can use them in MD2 which is very cool.
Since When is shea on rahdo runs through?
since april 2020 :) shea.rahdo.com :)
White pixels, why ? XD
BUT ^^ its wayyyyyy tooooo Easy :(
We killed the Enemys (Horde or Roaming) in one turn after they spawn so they cant attack us in their own turn.
That was sooo sad ;(
Case 1: there is some Houseruling possible to fix this
Case 2: sell that game
i hope Case 1 comes true
