    Last of the bullit proof Mercedes, the simplicity & elegance is superfluous compared to the new techtonic unreliable & expensive to repair Mercedes madness today! Less is more & wonderful! Life is too complicated anyway! Long live the W124! X

    The flat style seats were a feature of the MB's of that time, along with their MBTEX plether. It was designed like that to alleviate DVT. There's so much design history which unfortunately you skipped over. Would of been better if you had done a little more research on the car your reviewing.

    My dad absolutely loved the w124 and w202s, in-fact he had the w124 in coupe, saloon and estate, at various points, I feel a real nostalgia to those cars, and as someone that’s Into cars they will always have a special place in my heart.

    The trouble with modern cars is that they are over designed , just look at Honda and Toyota , swoopy wings , swage lines all over the place , I think it all started with the Nissan joke sorry juke , they don't understand the concept of ' less is more '.

    I have the last of series here in Brisbane a 94 E320 Coupe was a Canberra consulate car, built far better than my E350 and far smoother and very solid on the road, interesting the final update car doors are very heavy maybe due to the added gathered leather insert and wood trim on the 3rd and final update models and yes the early cars had the 4 speed the later with a 5 speed with electronic 5th overdrive gear, the electric butler handover belt system actually appeared first on the 83 SEC’s, each of the updates are very different cars to drive from the 300CE 12v to the 300CE 24v and then the final 320CE in 93 that was rebadged to be the E320 the first E Class which shares more with the S Class of the time than its earlier siblings.

    I just purchased a 1995 W124 E320 Cabriolet and I love it. It took a bit of money to get it sorted but it runs smoothly and it’s in fabulous condition. I take it out once a week and I don’t mind that it doesn’t have any of the modern features we take for granted. If I want modern, then I’ll drive my Alfa Romeo Stelvio.

    You mean 1989. This car was not produced anymore in 1999. It was replaced by the first CLK.
    And to start on first gear, you should have a "summer/winter" toggle switch near the shifter. Put it in summer mode and it will start on first gear.
    Edit : I don't see the switch. Maybe it was added when the 5G tronic gearbox was released in 1995

      @@matthewsmith8249 the designation “300 CE” (when combined with M104 engine - thus 24 valve either 3.0 or 3.2 liter) was solely intended for US market. Europe and other countries had used 300 CE-24 and 320CE instead (for the latter E320 after MY 1994).

      And I think he’s actually pulling off in 1st gear by 10:24 on the video, so there has either been a kickdown-Button pressed or just tall gearing (plus rather low torque at those rpms!) makes him “feel” like it were 2nd.
      EDIT: I realised he explains this fact referred kickdown by 10:48

      @@mguytv These cars, when you change a component, it will last another 50.000 to 150.000 kilometres. While modern cars have some fucking sensor going wrong all the time. Nothing, except the sensor is actually wrong, and it costs shitloads of money to fix the sensor problem. Modern cars are actually less reliable than well kept old ones. In my experience.

    Early car with no wood along the bottom of the black dashboard panel. It’s got the early lined stitched seats, which look dated. Very rare for a top spec car not to have walnut wood, it has the standard zabrano lined wood, I think that’s how you spell it. Nice car though. You could drive it daily if it’s been looked after, they are very well built and simple mechanics.

    • @ChristerByklum-q5p
      @ChristerByklum-q5p 10 місяців тому

      Zebra o wood was always standard, however fancy you equipped your car, walnut was always extra cost option. From Mercedes. Some importers made it standard in some markets, but then it was the importer who always ordered it.

    Seats may be flat, but you can drive it for ten hours without getting tired. And yes, they start in second, to be as smooth as possible off the line. And yes, I have one as a daily driver in summer, as I love the personality in older cars, that modern ones just lack. You can hardly tell the brand before you see the logo. And in summer, with all windows down. Nothing beats it. Except maybe, only maybe, my 126 Coupe. As it has V8.
