@@JPBBQ Hi there, love your vids and tutorials! i am not sure how to install the bbq Adapter(existing vents or extra hole). What was your reason drilling an extra hole? Would be great hearing your minds. thanks in advance, andreas
Hi J.P. I recently purchased the DigiQ DX3. I was wondering if you could tell me how well it has worked for you. I don't want to drill a whole just yet. Thank you and have a great day.
LLLLLLLL. Did I call It?.....Did I call It! :-) It is a must have.....You won't be disappointed! Now You can put on a Packer Brisket and go to Sleep! Smoke On!
Been thinking of getting a WSM for a while now and enjoyed this series. Would be great to see an overall pick list for all the items you purchased to pimp your smoker.
I'm thinking of gettin a wsm, but notsure on size, usual there is 4-6 people more like 4 what size do you think would suit, I'm in Ireland and don't do alot thanks great videos
Thanks for watching my video Ann. I’ve cooked on both and just love the amount of room that the 22 WSM gives. The large one will give you room to do large foods like slabs of ribs and even a full size packers brisket. With the 18 the next size smaller you can fit a spatchcock chicken on each rack with no problem at all. If I had to choose I would go with the larger one, due to the more real estate. But either one you choose, they are both amazing smokers. Thanks again
Good info here @J.P.BBQ - I have a question for you: Which Step drill bit did you use and what are the dimensions of the hole you drilled? Also, have you had the opportunity to use the guru on a cook yet? I'm really considering purchasing one for my 22.5 WSM.
hey there Clifton, sorry its taken so long to respond. the bbq guru should come with a plate with a hole in it already. That plate is for ceramic type smokers like the green egg or kamado joe. That is what i used to measure the hole for the unibit size. It is roughly 1 1/4 inch so if you have one that goes to 1 1/2 that should be good just dont drill it all the way through cause then the hole would be to big. As you get close to the size, do a test to see if it fits. If you dont want to drill a hole it can also be easily installed in one of the existing damper holes. hope this helps. and happy smoking.
Thanks for watching and commenting on my video. It’s just barn door handles. I think I bought them at Lowe’s. I did have to bend them a little for the curvature of the drum. Thanks again
I loved the video series! I am seriously considering my next grill purchase and very curious about a taste test comparison between the lone star and wsm ??? Thanks Have a great day!
thanks for watching and commenting Royal. Both the Weber and Lonestar have done a great job. you get more real wood smoke flavor from the LSG since I really only use Pecan or Oak splits. The weber is more of a charcoal/wood chunks smoker. Which one taste better to me? LSG all the way. The Weber is still a good smoker and have made chicken and a Boston butt in it and came out tasting very good. thanks again
Thanks Dallas appreciate you commenting and watching. and absolutely you don't have to drill a hole, it can be mounted in one of the vent holes. thanks again
Kiestpark Dallas, you are fully right. But drilling a whole is better, because you can further use all vents! I have done it like J.P and I am really happy.
He does mention the vent holes in the video. IMO, the install with an independent drilled hole gives it a more professional permanent aesthetic. No disabling of an existing vent with foil tape. Nice job J.P.!
Thanks for watching my video Andreas. I’m not sure if it was an 1 1\4 or 1 3\8 or slightly smaller. I went to Lowes and bought the biggest step bit from Milwaukee tools and that worked for me fine. Sorry hope that helps. Thanks again
Hi again J.P, I need small further support, I also drilled a hole in my wsm to mount the Adapter. Fits perfect with 1 1/4''. Do you fixed the deflector to the adapter from the inside of the wsm? Would be great to get a short reply. Thanks in andvance and best regards, Andreas
The fact that you were able to screw the adapter into the hole you drilled tells me it was the new universal adapter. The Weber adapter doesn’t have threads. I guess I answered my own question.
Larry Benoit yes the guru adapter has threads on it. I used the uni-bit and just drilled the hole till i got to the size i need. Hope that helps, thanks again for watching and commenting.
What’s happening JP love your videos. Quick question on your guru did your grill temp and your guru temp stay around the same temp or did it vary. Would the grill grate show a different temp then your WSM temp gauge.
Hey there Adryan, appreciate the compliment and thanks for watching and commenting. I wanna say that they was a slight difference but not much, the Guru makes it so much easier to set the temp. Kinda like one of those set it and forget type things. But not much of a difference in temp. Thanks again
I'll start by introducing myself I'm John I've been smoking on a 22-inch Weber kettle for about 5 years now, and I get good enough results I've had people tell me I should quit my job and start a barbecue place. That's not happening I wouldn't enjoy doing it if I had to do it every day. I am now getting a Smokey Mountain. out of curiosity are there certain mods Maybe you wish you didn't spend the money on? I'm definitely going to do the door. The lid hinge. The gaskets. Thank you for your time for reading this comment and your reply if you leave one.
Hey John appreciate you watching and commenting. All the Mods are great, some could be better. The only thing I would complain about is the wheel kit. I wish the wheels where a little bigger. But besides that. All the mods work great. Heck and just thinking about it, if i had to do it again I would build it exactly the same. Maybe find bigger wheels. lol. Thanks again
Sure i would have to see if I can order them. Ive seen other videos and the Cajun Bandit SS door does like very nice. The fire dial I would have to look at some videos on it. not to familiar with it. But thanks again for watching and commenting
ua-cam.com/video/5cde-UOChpI/v-deo.html Check this out. You can find plenty of videos of people cooking on it. Since you have so much experience with the offset stick burner, what do you think of it? I have a WSM and a PBC, but I wonder if the fire dial would allow me to retire the PBC and have the best of both cookers.

Love the permanent hole you drilled for the fan install. I’ll be doing the same to optimize my Pit Viper fan performance.
Watched all your mod videos, you kept it simple, nicely done
Thanks, very much appreciated. Glad you liked the videos.
Just started viewing your channel, very informative & entertaining. Great video!
Thanks
Another informative video, thank you. You're stepping up my game brother 😊
Appreciate the compliment. thanks again.
Hi J.P. Awesome video and up grades to the WSM. Can’t to see your first cook on her. Thanks for sharing take care bro
thank you David, appreciate you watching. I should have a video done on a fully modified WSM for next week. thanks again
You can put the Guru fan in one of the existing Weber vents without drilling a hole.
Hey there Jeff appreciate you watching and commenting. And thank you for the tip.

I will tell you this, I love it. I feel like getting the WSM 22 now. lol thanks bro I appreciate your motivation.
Do the damper knobs come with lock washers? If not I'll probably use lock washers just to keep it all nice and tight.
I dont remember them coming with lock washer but not sure. thanks again
