Horrible. It hurts to see it like that! I wish all those affected by this terrible event in the north west of England all the best! Greetings from a skipper from East Frisia/German North Sea coast
@markwoodward881 it's privately owned by the peel group so it'll come down to if they think they can still make a profit from the canal after a major expense
I used to live a few miles further up the canal at Timperley many years ago,and I now live in New Zealand,so this was really interesting for me Thanks for posting.Superb drone footage.
Thank you for doing this sweety. The Bridgewater canal was part of my history class at school, along with the Stockton to Darlington railway I pray they fix it 🙏🏻
Oh WOW, how coincidental that you have been here & uploaded an update on this tragic major incident Dan 😔 I actually watched it happening in "REAL TIME" on a video that was uploaded by a family that have a narrowboat & YT channel ( Called Taylors Aboard a Narrowboat ) Full video of it happening here in REAL TIME 😖 ua-cam.com/video/yP5-IzWTQ44/v-deo.htmlsi=31NgjqBsFkj_ZHF- 😞 If anybody reads this comment, PLEASE give them a "SUB & LIKE" their latest videos on this incident, so as it pushes the algorithm & hopefully adds a bit of revenue to HELP this family out 🙏☺ As they are stranded there now, for quite a while apparently, until work gets started on the canal, to get them out of there, which could be MONTHS 😞😟 Well done Dan for this update & "amazing drone footage" 💯☺ The young guy who lives on the narrowboat had been getting contacted by ALL the news channels asking for permission to use his drone footage because he was the first person to capture the Canal Breach via his drone in REAL TIME. So your drone footage may be in demand also, as it is more of a lengthy footage showing the extent of damage done. ( WELL DONE anyways ) Starting your New Year off with amazing footage & being out there being productive, with the latest news/happenings ☺👏💪
Devastation for residents and wildlife. I used to hang around and fish in the canal in Astley. I wonder if it’s emptied all the canal or if some sections have been saved by locks etc. How far does the devastation go. I hope you keep up with the progress of the repairs, if that happens. I suspect they might abandon it?
Hard to work out what happened but looks like it breached and the rush of water has literally ripped away the canal bottom. The repair and damages bill will be 10s of millions.
Peel Holdings (owner's of the canal) think the Bollin flooding bellow the canal weakened the embankment causing it to collapse and cause the canal breach
@freedomforall7003 it will come down to whether the owners "the peel group" believe they cam still make the canal profitable after what will be a costly repair
@steveminor9932 well let's keep an I on it them, But I'm 100% sure they won't repair it, all their do is make it a NO GO ZONE, & for those poor ppl who own those canal boats they will be left there to Root or hire a Crane to move them, but the Ground won't support such a big thing.
@freedomforall7003 watching a UA-camr who lives on one of those boats. Peel group have told them they are going to attempt a coffer damn by the breach in am attempt to refloat the boats. If that fails then peel will pay for cranes to lift the boats out. But it "could take some time to do that"
One of them is a UA-camr that streams their travels. They have videos of the night it happened and the chaos of their boats slowly getting lower and lower and trying to keep it from capsizing.
It will be a huge civil engineering project to get that sorted. Depending on the local authorities budget, it could take years to get back up and running.
OMG, they will have to pump water from somewhere to fill that up. Gosh shocking, this UK weather system is fooked Dan what's next brilliant video mate. Tom in Derbyshire 73s Keep up the good work.
Earlier this year there was a leak in the Macclesfield canal embankment at Bollington. There was a small whirlpool in the centre of the canal - it was fixed with polythene sheet and clay!! The canal was boarded off whilst the repairs were made but could have caused something similar.
All the canals were lined with puddling clay, they laid a couple inches of wet clay and stomped it down with their feet, then another couple of inches and more stomping and more layers up to 3 feet deep. It must be kept wet or it dries and cracks so this will be hell to fix.
I believe the Chichester canal is due to empty itself, it wont be as catastrophic, because it will empty into Chichester harbor, but the canal gates are rotten and water is already seeping through the banks. fantastic footage btw, its incredible there's still water left to come out.
Your hands looked "red raw" Dan....Buy some fingerless gloves 🥶😌 You might think they are a waste of time wearing them, but they aren't. Only the tips of your fingers will feel the cold, instead of your whole hand. 🙌☺ And you can still use your mobile/drone etc.
The excitement in the rural folk with this canal collapse lol Just picture the discussions they will all be having for years to come sitting with their afternoon T Spiffing🤣
Can be fixed with 6-12 months. Looks like access is achievable. The middlewhich breech cost £3m and was opened back in December. However they did need to build a road to get there
We had a dam wash out this past summer. I got to capture some Mavic 3 shots of the Dam, a home hours before it washed in as well as a passing ultra-lite who was orbiting. - thanks for the reminder to edit Great timing to get there you had 4:43 yikes 😬 good luck boats
The cranes and boards safety measure have always been there I would think since the canal was built , if not , as long as I can remember and I'm 75 , I live close to the canal and if you see them up close you will see they are very old
Excellent footage. Fabulous and tragic at the same time. Feel so sorry for any farmers affected by flooding. One of your best videos ❤
This is a great example showing how great Drones are. Big task ahead for its repair. Hopefully you can periodically show progress updates 👍
I live 5 mins from this canal, it’s going to take months to rebuild, thanks for sharing the footage, it’s my daily cycling route, heartbreaking

Brilliant work mate. I like when you show ecological stuff.
That’s a massive job to repair that damage
You reckon?
One of your best ever videos from a drone footage point of view.
Amazing when you think canals were built by hand over 200 years ago. Hopefully this will be fixed asap
It had another breach back in 1971 and reopened 1973. The pics from 1971 do seem to show it was just as severe.
@@Mr-Steam Especially with the puddling undercut

FAR CANAL!!!!
Absolutely brilliant footage mate, you could really see what had gone on 👍
"Yesterday I couldn't spell engineer. Now I are one"! That engineering couple were brilliant and informative.
Morning. How will they fix that and when ?
It will take years to fix. I think it's the largest breach of a canal certainly in living memory.
There is a chance it may just be abandoned
Canals sadly aren't a government priority or of any interest to them , so it will take years to fix if ever.
@markwoodward881 it's privately owned by the peel group so it'll come down to if they think they can still make a profit from the canal after a major expense
How would they even get to the breach with machines to repair?will be a nightmare to repair
A hell of a lot of money. And even more hard work over about 2 years maybe longer
Love love watching your videos Dudey honest hope you had a fab Christmas x
Brilliantly filmed. Best footage yet with excellent choice of good music. Thank you so much.
You are welcome 🙏

Is this a personal opinion, or one given in your official role as head of The Minsitry for Stating the Bloody Obvious?
Peel Holdings (owner's of the canal) think the Bollin flooding bellow the canal weakened the embankment causing it to collapse and cause the canal breach
repaired in 71 but this is bigger?
The gentleman made good sense using drone footage over several days to create a model.

The breach site can be dammed off and those unfortunate boats can be re-floated. To repair the breach will be a huge civil engineering project.
They will probably have to be craned out & moved to another canal.

Not
I disagree. The people. ‘arguing’ are being educated!
My neck of the woods, they have blocked the Canal further back but i think it maybe flowing to relieve flood water from the Deluge of Rain we had
Love that drone footage mate! Do you still use the little mini in these kind of places or you got one of the bigger ones?
