You know how fairytale horror uses fairytale elements and plots? It's the same with folk horror, it incorporates the folklore of a certain place/people.
Leech is SO good! I just finished it like a week ago and was so confused for the first like 50 pages but also so engaged. One of my best friends was also a sensitivity reader for it!
your "patreon" wheeze is honestly quite impressive lmaoo i just bought Nestlings last weekend so i'm gonna have to come back & join again when all my bills of the month are paid lol also omg i'm reading The Ritual right now & LOVING IT.
I've seen folk horror described as a fear of being other in the beliefs/religion/customs of a sect that the characters venture into. An outsider feeling "other" and being subjected to things they don't understand or find horrifying when entering a community that views those practices as completely normal.
Just finished Natural Beauty. You might like it.. It’s what I thought Rouge was going to give. Also thank you for your Shadow of the gods and Hunger of the gods rec, my favorite of the yr.
Sister, maiden, monster is my #1 book of the year. Its one of those "I support women's wrongs" type books with nasty body horror and a ton of lesbian sex. Whats not to love.
I'm also guilty about not reading any books I had on my 2023 TBR. It was a nice thought, I suppose, but maybe i'll just roll it over to 2024. I'm sure they'll fare better this time around, right?
If love it if you watched the ritual movie again before or after reading the book, I'm so curious which ending you prefer. Personally, I liked the movie most.
Omg if you get woozy at gore please eat 20 minutes before reading Sister, Maiden, Monster. Almost passed out at one part because I had low blood sugar!
I read an ARC of Sister Maiden Monster, but I didn't review it because I read it before I had my booktube channel. It's pretty good. There are graphic scenes, but the best horror books have graphic, disgusting scenes. 😂 I didn't LOVE the book, but I think you should read it.
I am currently reading six rooms. I'm about half way through. I have to force myself to read this. I'm really struggling to connect to any of the characters or to really get into the storyline. I'm hoping it's a second half slam

❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍
To my understanding ‘folk’ horror. Is horror stories based on folklore and urban legends.
Idk what folk horror is either lol
