Viktor "Isildur1" Blom and Tom "durrrr" Dwan battled Heads Up for millions of dollars on Full Tilt Poker's highest stakes tables.
In 2009, poker was very different than today.
With the help of solver tools Simple Preflop and PioSolver, we revisit their match and explore how good their poker strategies were from today's perspective.

Please make this into a series. The heads up battle between Dwan and Blom was truly epic. Would love to see more.
Available footage is limited unfortunately, but will see what I can do!
THere is no point he is using pio solver the wrong way. Its pointless.
I miss Full Tilt. Those were the days. Would really love to see more old school poker analysis. Great work, man! Love the channel.
Those were great times indeed! Thanks for the nice words, much appreciated!
God, I remember being in college and just watching $200/$400 for hours on full tilt. So entertaining. So many crushers. Durrrrrrr was def one of them
Same. I remember tonkaaaa.
Also gigabet. :D
Great breakdown without being boring! I find most gto analysis videos I'm skimming through and watching 20% of them, but this was paced really well. Will definitely check out more. Good job!
That's great to hear and means a lot, thank you!
incredible video, it is not a simple solver calculation, but a background hisrory of the hu
Thanks a lot, appreciate it!
What a throwback. This was great, thank you for some awesome insight!
Happy to hear that, was a great time to revisit!
Always nice to hear the terminator speak poker
I miss the old days. Machines didn't make poker (or chess that I also play) any better at having fun.
I sometimes miss them days too, but let's not forget what the machines have given us, both in chess and in poker. Cheers
Adapt or die 🤷🏼♂️
I remember watching highstakes HU cashgame back in the day. It was all about being the aggressor preflop and check raising all kinds of boards, where people often dont hit well. Even at highstakes HU cg people were super unbalanced and wayyyy to aggressive.
Great vid man :)
Thank you :)
Amazing editing man 😁
Thanks man 😉
super interesting to watch, loved the analysis
Really great video, shoes how in tune these Guys were
1:13 I dont understand why unblocking both flush and backdoor flush draws (QsQh)B19 0,532 is sandwiched between (QdQc)B19 0,646 and (QsQc+QhQc)B19 0,510 in terms of bet freq. Can anyone eloborate on this? Do we want the rejam vs a raise scenario on the flop more often when we unblock clubs?
Solvers will make poker more like chess.
For the 1% sure.
I'll always remember kingofcards and isildur1s runs
I wonder how much GTO-type strategy we would have worked out on our own if solvers were never invented
Yeah great question. A lot of good concepts did exist before, they were just not as fine tuned
Man I miss the full tilt days, they had such a good thing with that site, why that had to mess it up I will never understand!
Pls more Dwan vs Isildur Analyse 😍
🍻
Is the KQo @4:00 not GTO ? Seems like a spot we are happy to 3! flop gii with JJ-KK, and KQ blocks strongest Tx and has a gutter to the nuts + potentially up to 6 live pair outs
You're right, 3betting flop with JJ-AA is a thing. But note that they are 200BB deep! So the solver almost never just wants to jam here, but if at all goes for kind of click back with those overpairs and a few bluffs.
Here, any hands that block sets and 2 pair, so T7s/T6s/97s/96s/K2s/Q2s/J2s are much better to do this. This way, you get IP to fold bluffs like KJ, Q8, 76 and you can still get away if they jam.
Jamming in 200 bigs instead will just leave you with terrible equity when called - even though you're right that KQ isn't a brainfart hand to that, it's just not a good line in general.
@@2CardConfidence That's a good point. Given how deep they are it's better to block 2p/sets and unblock broadway bluffs. Also KQ has enough equity to call, so no need to raise. nh dwan xD
Thank you this is an amazing video. Does anyone remember a FullTilt player called FinalNightmare. I remember him playing vs durrrr and all the other top players at 500/1000. I was wondering who that was but can't seem to find him.
Great to hear, thanks!
I don't recall that screenname at all unfortunately... And seems like there's nothing on the internet about him
Great channel. Good old times in poker. The best poker battle ever.
Well put 🍻
Aside from this rivalry that is surely entertaning I have to say this 8 minute content is worth hours of poker footage with no analysis or no gto knowledge whatsoever. Thank you for this content.
Thanks a lot, great that you like it!
Awesome analyse…
Could you do that which plo hands ?
Thank you! Unfortunately no, because the channel is called 2 Card Confidence, not 4 😜
In all honesty, I know close to nothing about PLO, so wouldn't be very helpful unfortunately
I love this format. That river call doesnt calculate into a solver simply because QJ needs to jam the turn.
The thing I dont love cannot be avoided... that poker isnt so soft anymore
Amazing content
Great stuff 👏
Tremenda batalla en sus buenos tiempos estas dos bestias daban espectáculos en las mesas de póker online
Over betting was also common back then especially to (protect your hand) from say a flush draw, it was almost standard to (over pot bet) or (all in) automatically at the sight of danger for a (TAG) player...
Do you have video explaining how to read and use solver from A-Z?
Not yet, but I have something similar on the list
@@2CardConfidence Thanks - it's crazy that i didn't find any good tutorial on YT..
What is a solver?
Great job man
Thank you!
Great video!
Happy you like it!
Great stuff
Which app do you use?
i dont get it did you win or lose
Dwan is a legend , i remember asking myself , whos this 22 year old skinny kid bluffing billionaires and millionaries
Lol legend my ass dudes bluffed because it wasn't his money and that's why he's so in debt 😅
@@allinmaniacpoker says the guy who plays 550$ guaranteeds 😂😂😂 500$ is the BUY IN is the ones I play at GG . Clueless fish, by age 20 Dwan had already a 6 million dollar bankroll on fulltillt , go grind bro , maybe youll surpass one they the 550$ guaranteed final tables 😂, how much is 1st place ? 80 bucks 🤣
@@ernestoA.1999 id play at gg if i could unfortunately im in america but i still play much higher stakes on the other two. You cant pay bills with micro tournies consistently but you probably dont pay bills with poker at all 1999 please i was playing poker while you were potty training
I know i posted this on your RedBaron video 😂 but I also dont know whats happend to Isildur. Again, hes just disappeared. I read apparently he had become a 'target' in the high stakes as he was no longer considered good. But the last I saw him play - he played in about 15 of Party Pokers High roller tournaments, with all the best players - at least 50+ players in each torunament some with 300+ etc.. and he literally final tabled 6 or 7 of them, won 3 and came 2nd in like 2 of them.. and apparently this is a player considered "not good" by the high stakes players any more?... well.. he still seems pretty good to me! I heard a rumour he had a backer in those tournaments and only had like 10% of himself or something, but again that would still amount to at least 100k in profit for him... I wonder if hes just moved on?
When was this? Especially high stakes develop insanely fast regarding skill levels. So you can fall behind quickly.
Haven't seen him in years, so I'd think he has just moved on
Wasn't he seen playing on GG like two years ago?
At 1:58, can someone please help explain why the solver finds way more folds when you have QsQh vs the other QQ hands without clubs that have Qd? I don't understand why it's helpful to block Qd. Thanks
In position player should float flop with AQs-AJs-ATs with the backdoor diamond draw, a backdoor club draw or with a flush draw. The A on the turn being a club, the IP player combos that hit the A are mostly AXs of diamond or AXo combos with a club. So blocking a Qd helps. We can't see it in the video as all QQxc combos pure call, but I strongly expect QQcd to have higher EV than QQcs and QQch.
Awesome explanation Pierre!
Thank you
I would hate to play either back then online. Unless you are properly rolled you could lose 7 figured in a few hands.
A block bet did not exist back then? Wrong!
I remember watching Tom battling mystery isildur1 who deposit 2k and ran it up to 6million in 6month and lose it all in 3month and came back to high stakes poker again. That's skill!
Who did he lose it all too? I remember the hype about Isildur back then people thought he was unbeatable. Did Tom end up coming out on top of this heads up?
@Green2711 1 lost 4millon to runitonce pro BrianH in PLO HU match and rest of other pros
@@Juztastic Dwan lost 4 million to Isildur
Exactly how I play 1/3 😝
There were definitely ‘block bets’ back then. Sky poker tv presenters wouldn’t shut up about them!
Pio learned from them
Where is Blom now ?
Would love to know as well...

@@Fatti1 Nice try
Cool!
2009 😭😭😭😭
🥲🥹😌
Poker would be way more fun if solvers didn’t exist. You can sheer a sheep many times but you can only skin him once. I think solvers have caused a lot of recreational players to quit poker.
Solvers have not really solved poker though because the game tree is too complex, besides that nobody can really play GTO anyways. So I wouldnt worry about that stuff tbh. Also, variance is huge in poker and plays a significant role as well.
@@CanariasCanariass well what I’m saying is poker should be more about fun and not maximizing every edge possible. But wtv guess it still works.
@@seangrover702 recreational players were always losing so...
This caliber of players cannot be put into solvers. They can take any action with any hand any size any street on any situation and never replicate it again. This cannot be put into solver. This is the purest form of poker - 1 on 1, ego vs ego, playing the man and not the cards. Deep in its core poker is still a game of skill and no solver can quantify that.
If you want that feeling of non solved and everything is possible just start playing 5card plo. You can do so much if nobody knows the right way to play
So big O?
0:12 LOL aejones being a rat with the short stack. direct left of the massive fun player as well. damn, 0 shame.
what GTO ,,,, they played like maniacs ;))) put the money all in
They would loose so bad even vs the 50 zoom hu player pool
no way, they would beat it quite easily imo. these plays look goofy but it's not that easy to exploit 2010 poker gods for a mortal 50nl grinder. not to mention that they would learn the things now everyone does better than them in no time. they were the best in the world for a reason, their skills are 100x more important than using gto sizings.
They would destroy 50 zoom hu players
GTO is like playing options in the stock market and thinking you have an edge when options are priced in so the edge is largely removed. In the end, poker is about instincts, luck, and knowing your opponent and exploiting their weakness on a given hand. That doofus Torelli is big on GTO and he rarely wins on HCL.
It is not a call with the K5s because isildur has an extremely wide range and you obviously didn't put it in your data. Pio Solver isn't the holy grail to poker just cause you have it. Most of you use the data wrong and end up the wrong answers. Every student I have taught poker used the data wrong and looked at the data improperly. I guarantee if you put isildur range a lot wider it would be a raise on this flop. Isildur 3b range is mucher wider then what you put there. Your data is is useless at this point.
👍🏽
Wow this history lesson about what was and wasn’t common in 2009 is off. MTT standard raise for elite players was 2.5x at most and and usually 2.2x or less. Standard line after 3-betting pre-flop cash or MTT was 1/3 pot on the flop. People c-betted less than 1/2 pot all time. The biggest difference today is bets over pot.
These sorts of crazy heads up battles were definitely exceptions to the rule and not the way day-to-day play occurred.
My god when online poker was as corrupt as it gets….
It still is
thats not poker they are just flipping.
this whole video is pointless because Isi ended up being broke and durr went to asia and played in the biggest gambling casino in the world so that's that
Solvers ruined poker.
Solvers have ruined poker
Yes so have the online gurus helping everyone. Poker used to have more mystery and trial and error. Now you have top players giving all their secrets and teaching for free. I think they are weasels for that
They sre weasels in the sense that they made their money and are good so now they dont care to go out and help people. Its bull. I had to learn from so much trial and error. Poker can never be fully solved because people all play a bit different but its still lame how people are giving out so much info for youtube views
Poker is far from solved. Game tree is too complex. And nobody can replicate GTO play anyways, so don't worry.
Before 2015 was ALL RANDOM
