    Thank you Lee! The servo checker is a great tip as is that reminder to disconnect the linkage for setting up flaps. You are a great help for a great radio in a great community! Jim D. aka Dynascrew

    I use the rotary pot on the Taranus as the input for the
    flaps then just read out the values that are required on the transmitter for low
    mid and high settings and then assign them along with a switch for the flaps as you do.
    Saves having to connect up a servo tester.

    I use old Spektrum DX7 and a DX8 transmitters and I often envy Taranis owners their RSSI information. But then I watch videos like this and think, maybe I'll stick to Spektrum. It reminds me of the old Mac v Windows arguments; I've always been a Mac user :)
    Thanks for the resource though, Painless.

      Nothing wrong with providing an affiliate link in the description, especially if it's marked as such. If you can make a few quid, good luck to you.

    I've got flaps on my Sky Eye and a Taranis. I've heard it balloons a lot when flaps are deployed, so I'd like to mix in some elevator. On the flap servo, I set it with full deflection at neutral flap so I have the entire travel for flap down. That works well because I carved the wing forward of the bottom hinge a bit to provide more relief and throw.
    I'm having a weird problem now where the elevator can deflect down, but not up.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  7 років тому

      +Hugh Hemington I normally fly the model and see how much elevator is needed to correct the ballooning and then add that amount using a simple add, connected to the flap switch in the mixes.. how are you doing it?

    • @hughhemington9559
      @hughhemington9559 7 років тому

      The magnitude of the lift depends on throttle/speed, so I'll fly it and get a feel for how the need for elevator changes from low to higher speed and probably split the difference somewhere.

      +MaxFpV flight cool, you just need to add a line under the existing elevator mix that adds a little of the throttle input. We do things like that literally dozens of times in the examples.. Best of luck.

    Nice Video - thank you. Could you possibly expand on this and illustrate how to set up a flap elevator mix where custom flap settings are used with a 3 position switch. I did watch your other video where you just assign a switch linked directly to the flap channel. It is quite a bit easier to get the elevator mix under those conditions. But I have been struggling trying to get the mix to work properly when custom values are used for the flap positions.

    Another way to slice this cake. On the outputs screen limit the servo travel. Maybe even change the centre. This does away with having to calculate percentages.
    Actually in theory do this for all channels to ensure that the servo travel never exceeds physical limits (as long the servo arm isn't removed and put back in a different position)

  • @rantanplan1911
    @rantanplan1911 4 роки тому

    What I would personnally do would be to first set the flaps to a pot on your transmitter (or even a stick... it's temporary so it doesn't matter) instead of a switch, then figure out what channel % gives you the desired travel, and then enter these values for the switch you want to actually use. This way you don't even need a servo tester.

    Just wondering - setting up an EDF as in your video - so much more precise than the old on-model trial and error. I am anticipating a long roll out on landing and would like to try (after normal landing with flaps) an “airbrakes” 90 degree position beyond Flaps 2. I’d like that on another switch if possible. Think that might work (maybe even in combination with both ailerons up)? If so, how would I set that up so that it operates independently of normal flaps?

    What is special about the (virtual) “MAX” input? Though I see how it worked in the case of your instruction (THANKS!), when I tried using an actual 3-position switch, wiith the weights set to -100%(POS1), 0%(POS2), and 100%(POS3) (to get started) as an input, the simulation showed that the output of the MIXER for the designated FLAP channel changed from -100(POS1), to 0(POS2), and stayed at 0 when switched to POS3. Any idea why? Thanks.

    Very nice! But you could use limits on the servo travel as opposed to weights, me thinks. I have mine on the left slider, so it is variable.

    How about a video on how to set up the throttle stick as both throttle and flaps (single servo flaps). With flaps, off, throttle on a 3 way switch. With throttle cut on SF. Reflex,cruise, camber on another 3 way switch. I have yet to get this to work on the Taranis. Everyone I asks tells me to change the throttle to a different switch or some such. I like it this way. If my Futaba 12 FG can do it the Taranis certainly should be able to. I'm having limited success and am getting frustrated. TIA

    Was wondering if you may be able to help me out? I'm running a Flysky FS-IA6B receiver with a TX16s transmitter. My FMS T28 has the ailerons and flaps wired with Y cables. How do I get my flaps to go in the same direction? It works for my ailerons but obviously not for my flaps. I will watch the video again, but any help would be appreciated. Also, I can't flip or install the servo any other way without doing some modification.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  2 роки тому

      I'd check that you are not accidentally using a reversed servo for one of the flaps. Usually, by having the servos the same way on a Y cable it ensures that they both move in the same direction.. Best of luck!

    Why don't you put your flaps on a slider then you can bring your slider down lowering your flaps and then set the end points so the flap stops where you want it to, that's how I done mine

      +Allan T you sure can, see our video where we use a rotary switch to be able o change deflection on the fly. Useful for flaps, crow, camber etc.. happy flying!

    If I mix down elevator with a slow up and down flap deployment how do I correspondingly get the elevator movement to operate in sink with the slow flap movement. Applying delays to the flap mix doesn't seem to work correctly. I don't want the full elevator mix to be applied before the flaps have reached their final position.

    I know that video is super old, but I just got in from drone world. I have radiomaster boxer and matek R24-P6 and I created delta mix with lua script for my wing, everything is working, but with a twist :) So, when i move stick left-right, wing is going down-up, and when Im moving stick up-down, my wing is banking. How to fix this easiest way? Im new with this and moving from drones so, sorry for not using right terminology. Tnx

    Thanks for the video Lee. I have a question for you. I have a phoenix 2000 with a 4 servo wing. I have setup crow on a 3 position switch, but would like to have a knob/slider that can control the crow movement in either half or full flap position. I know Open tx would be capable of it, but I can't get my head around it. I don't know how to make the knob/slider the primary control when crow is in the middle or lower switch position.

    I could not get it to work with using the source "MAX" I had to use the switch source I was using. You didn't really go into MAX value, also I want 3 positions flap setting up middle full. When I use middle the input is 0 adjust the weight of 0 has no effect I can't set the middle setting at all using the weight.

      I've covered MAX in lots of other videos. Be aware that things change from OpenTX version to OpenTX version and radio to radio.. See my plane setup videos for more options..
