- हिमालय में कई बर्ड्स खतरे में है।ये बर्ड धीरे धीरे विलुप्त भी हो रहा है। जंगलो की कटाई, वनों पर मानव की अत्यधिक दखल और हेलीकाप्टर की बेतहाशा उड़ान इन संवेदनशील चिड़ियों के लिए लगातर ख़तरा पैदा कर रही है। उत्तराखंड बर्ड watching के लिए स्वर्ग है। यहाँ चिड़िया सर्दियों में मीलों सफर तय कर भोजन की तलाश में आती है। उत्तराखंड में करीब 700 से ज्यादा पक्षियों की प्रजातियां पाई जाती है। राज्य पक्षी मोनाल के दीदार के लिए यहाँ हर साल बड़ी संख्या में पक्षी प्रेमी आते है। मोनाल देखने के लिए सबसे अच्छा समय सर्दियों में रहता है और यहाँ चोपता तुंगनाथ क्षेत्र में आसानी से देख सकते है।

मक्कूमठ गाँव के यशपला पिछले 20 सालों से बर्ड वाचिंग सैलानियों को कराते है। यशपाल नेगी चिड़ियों की आवाज सुनकर उनकी पूरी जानकारी दे देते है। यशपाल बताते है कि वर्तमान समय में हेलीकाप्टर कि आवाज से सबसे ज्यादा खतरा चिड़ियों पार पड़ रहा है। चिड़ियों का प्रजनन काल मार्च से लेकर जून के बीच होता है और इस समय हेलीकाप्टर उड़ने से वो अपना घोंसला छोड़ देती है।अप्रैल अंतिम सप्ताह से प्रदेश में चार धाम यात्रा शुरू हो जाती है जिसके बाद हेलीकाप्टर चलने शुरू हो जाते है।

यशपाल नेगी मक्कू गाँव में होमस्टे संचालित कर रहे है। उनकी मानें तो चोपता तुंगनाथ पर लगातर दबाव बढ रहा है।पर्यटकों को इस क्षेत्र से हटाकर आस पास के गाँवो में रुकवाने कि व्यवस्था करनी होगी और इसके लिए होमस्टे सबसे अच्छा तरीका है। उन्होंने खुद भी होमस्टे तैयार किया है। यशपाल बताते है तुंगनाथ घाटी बर्ड वाचिंग के लिए स्वर्ग मानी जाती है और हर साल यहाँ बड़ी संख्या में नेचर और बर्ड लवर आते है।वे कहते है गौरैय्या को बचाने के लिए भी हमें प्रयास करने होंगे।
