With just four ingredients and ten minutes, you can create the most delicious buttercream you've ever tasted this side of dairy-free.
The fact that it's vegan doesn't take away from the divine flavor you've come to love and expect from frosting, and the texture is out of this world - silky, smooth, perfectly pipe-able and spreadable, with no sign of grittiness, greasiness, or sandiness in sight.
I also go over what vegan butters work and which ones don't, and how to fix them.
So if you're looking to avoid allergens, are lactose-free, are vegan or vegetarian, cutting down on your cholesterol, or just looking for something delicious to put in your mouth, you've found the right recipe!
Use it to ice cakes, cupcakes, fill macarons and cookie sandwiches, top cinnamon rolls, or just eat with a spoon (I won't judge).
Options for soy-free and palm-oil-free can be found in the recipe link above.

Oh my 😱 thank you for sharing so much info about vegan items. I just subscribed and will be following for more videos. ❣️
Just finished making this and cannot say enough good things! My kids are licking the spatula as we speak. It’s delicious and probably the easiest frosting I’ve made yet.
Thank you so very much for this vegan video! I was asked to do vegan cupcakes for a friend so I was looking for pointers on using vegan butter and how to make vegan buttercream. I really appreciated the "real time" demonstration. It gave better context on how long to mix the butter and sugar. Thank you immensely! ❤️
You’re welcome!! I’m so glad it helped you!
I love how your so informative about veganism 🌱🙏💕
I appreciate you doing this slo demo and informative.
Very informative video, thank you for breaking down everything. 🙏🏼
Thank you so much for this awesome video!! It helped me a lot! I am starting my home baking business and you answered a lot of my questions!! Please don't listen to any of these people commenting rude things!! You are the best!! By the way I noticed the HEB powdered sugar!! I live in TX! Lol have a great day!😊🎂
Lifesaver recipe!!!! Thank you 😅
You’re very welcome!
Super informative!! Thank you so much💕
Is this enough for 6" 2 layer or 8" 2 layer one? You are simply amazing person. Thank you so much for ur wonderful receipes... Can I use this buttercream recipe for cake layers too as a frosting?
This makes enough frosting (2.5 cups) to fill and frost a 6" cake pretty generously. For an 8" I would make a double batch. You'll probably have some leftover frosting, but it keeps really well in the fridge or freezer for future use! And yes, it works marvelously between layers. :)
Can’t wait to try! Do you have a recipe for chocolate buttercream?
Hi! I think I just answered you on FB but just in case you’re a different Hannah E..
I mix cocoa powder with a little water to make a thick paste, and stir it into this. I don’t go over about 1/4c or cocoa powder or it starts to break it:

Wonderful recipe. Just made some and it’s delicious 😋
I LIKE YOUR VIDEO. I found it very informative and helpful. I need to make a dairy free frosting soon and I’m not an experienced baker/cake decorator.
I live in FL. Can you tell me up to what ambient temperature can this frosting hold its form? And after that temperature should I use emulsified shortening? Also I cannot find where your video is regarding the shortening. Thank you.
I'm glad you found value in the video! The temp at which your frosting will keep it shape really depends on what butter or fat you use. Shorting will hold up to around 80-85F in my experience, and Country Crock Plant Butter sticks about the same. Earth Balance melts really quickly at around 65F.
I go into detail about butters and shortening in the blog post here: www.cookingoncaffeine.com/easiest-vegan-buttercream-ever

Thank you so much for your quick reply. I am planning on using Country Crock Plant Butter with Almond Oil in stick form. It was what I found at the supermarket today. If this butter holds up to 80-85F the same as the shortening then I can just use the plant butter alone. I will travel 1.20 hr with the cake and I can find a way to keep it cool in the car. I also want to use a hobbycor manual air spray gun with hybrid sparkle dust made liquid with vodka so it dries faster. This will be my first time trying all that. I am open to any pointers or suggestions and appreciate your help. Thank you.
@@isabelmorales3114 biggest advice for traveling with the cake is to freeze it before taking off - overnight if you can. In the box, closed.
Make sure the box is on a flat surface in the vehicle - not a seat or someone’s lap! The floor is best.
Don’t open the box until you arrive and are ready to set up.
@@CookingOnCaffeine Thank you so much for your help! I look forward to seeing all of the videos in your channel. I appreciate the way you teach and add information on your video. Thanks again for taking the time to help.
HELP I did a test run with the cake and left it in the refrigerator overnight. The colors ran after I took it out. perhaps due to swea. Also looked a bit sweaty in refrigerator. I cannot leave the cake out tonight as tomorrow the actual cake will be traveling 1.20hrs. The cake has fresh raspberries in it so I don’t want to leave it out. Any suggestions?
Very Delicious Recipe!
Thank you, add lime to the butter to make butter cream. I like it
Awesome job!
Can we make a good quality vegan butter at home?
I have looked into country crock plant butters and couldn't find any without salt. Can you share which one are you using? I am making traditional french butter cream so I am using melted sugar and I prefer less sugar than most recepies. So when I have tried this butter, which has great consistency and handless egg yolks and liquid pretty well, i couldn't beat 100mg of sodium in it. So I am eating sweet- salty cupcakes now 😖 thanks
All of the Country Crock butters have salt, so I just omit the added salt in all my buttercreams that traditional usually has.
HOWEVER the brand Flora has recently released an unsalted vegan butter! I haven’t had a chance to play with it yet, but I’ve heard good things.
Can you please explain the reason why??
Thank you again
I would love to have this butter em Brazil 😥
What butter substitutes do you have? I’m happy to help you figure out an alternative that works just as well. :)
@@CookingOnCaffeine For now, we just have coconut butter, but it's only coconut oil with butter flavoring. :(
I need a kitchen aide mixer so bad
What about stevia leaf
Can you freeze that vegan butter? Where did you buy the sugar from?
Yes you can freeze it! And I got my sugar from H‑E‑B, a Texas grocery chain.
Allulose or powdered allulose
Did you use the country crook with the olive oil or avocado oil?
That’s a good question but I’m not 100% sure but I think for a vegan recipe either one should be fine! :)
I love the avocado, olive, AND almond varieties! All three are wonderful and work great, it’s just a matter of choosing the best one for any allergens I’m avoiding. :)
Can you give advice on subbing almond flour for self rising?
I’m sorry, but that’s beyond my knowledge at this time!
Thank you for your recipe, but I have a question? I followed the steps and couldn't put the liquid because its already watery
If that’s the case, your butter probably has a lot of water in it already. You can add some shortening to being the fatiness back up. 💕
@@CookingOnCaffeine thanks, it looks like everything is separated
@@CookingOnCaffeine it doesn't have any consistency at all
@@telerinmarito4184 what butter did you use?
Hi megan, i have to make my own butter from coconut oil (in my country its difficult to find vegan butter) and powder sugar but i didnt like it the taste of the sugar , i tried to make it with aquafaba but it turns into water , do you have a recipe similar to italian buttercream but vegan ? Greetings from chile 🇨🇱
Hi there, Michelle! I just published a new video for my American meringue buttercream today! It might fit your needs a bit better. :)
Cooking on Caffeine thank you 💖
Do you know if Rogers icing sugar in canada is vegan and/or organic?
Leo D according to Whoop Wellness:
21. Is Rogers Sugars Vegan?
Lantic Rogers or Rogers and Lantic is a Canadian sugar brand. However, NOT ALL of their sugars are vegan-friendly. From their website, it says “Bone char is not used at the Taber’s sugar beet factory or at Montreal’s cane refinery. While bone char is used at the Vancouver refinery.”
According to Mary’s Test Kitchen, “the product number will start with “22” if it’s from Taber. If it starts with “10,” it’s from Vancouver, BC where it is NOT vegan-friendly.”
whoopwellness.com/is-sugar-vegan/
Can I use salted vegan butter?
It’s all I use, since I can’t find any unsalted. 💕
I’d like to add bourbon to this buttercream. Will the 2 tablespoons of alcohol work as my liquid?
Glenna W Black it absolutely will!
Is this shelf-stable?
Yes, it is. It will last at least a week in a covered container at room temp, a month in the fridge, and pretty much forever in the freezer.
@@CookingOnCaffeine thank you! I have been searching for a good vegan buttercream. Can’t wait to try!
i love ur username! haha
Thank you! No caffeine, no cook. Haha
Not able to decorate my cupcakes
I don't know what happened
To much talking, don’t see her the buttercream piping on a cake or so, nope, not my video.
Thanks for stopping by, anyway! Blessings for 2021.
Talk a little less next time.
LOL no.
Thanks for the suggestion, though.
You’re the worst, Burr.
Easiest and 28 minutes? No.
It doesn’t take 28 minutes if you’re not also teaching thousands of random internet people how to make it at the same time, going over tons of details about ingredients, variations, and troubleshooting. ;)
There is a lot of great information in this video. Even though I've been vegan for almost 10 years and I've done a lot of baking, I still learned a few things I didn't know and that will be very helpful.
