- It’s been two weeks since we re-introduced the Fairphone 4, now with a vastly improved camera experience. With faster shot-on-shot time, better low-light imaging and snappier autofocus, shooting with the Fairphone 4 is like working with a brand-new camera.
We spent a day cruising through Amsterdam to get a good feel for the before and after of this camera upgrade IRL.
Spoiler alert: Photos are richer, sharper, and more true to life with better contrast, while videos are buttery smooth and ultra-high def, thanks to improved video stabilization and 4K capabilities.

I'm happy with this improvement, the camera slow shutter speed was a difficult issue.
Wow that is quite a nice improvement. I am not buying the Fairphone as my Galaxy S10+ is still going strong, and the best phone I can buy to be better for the environment and ethical considerations, is no phone.
But I might actually get a Fairphone in the future. I hope you can focus (pun intended) at the selfie camera. I really notice that the most pictures I take, are taken with the selfie camera. When I have a special moment that I want to photograph, I don't want to take pictures of buildings that I can google, I mostly want to take pictures of me and my friends / family together.
My selfiecam from the S10+ is crap compared to newer phones. Especially in chalenging light conditions. But also the angle is often too small. So what we need is a high resolution stabilized selfiecamera with a wide angle that can be zoomed in and corrected with software when you don't need that much of the scene.
OR
It would be nice to use a smartwach or so as a view finder so you can use the main camera instead of the selfie one.

Very nice! Have you considered licensing the camera app in such a way that it'd be possible for Murena to ship it with the phone on e/OS and for users to install it on CalyxOS or LineageOS?

That's really cool :D But I have a fairphone 3+ now and I won't buy a new one until ten years I guess? I can't but recommend fairphone to everyone, I never had issues with my fairphone 3 and 3+ except the guy who stole my fairphone 3 😭
love to hear it! Except for the stolen phone of course. The camera module and software for the 3+ are the best we can do for the Fairphone 3 - however, there is a sneaky trick you could try. If you check our forum, there are a bunch of people sideloading versions of the pixel camera that have interesting features. But you didn't hear this from us, since it's not really an official solution :)
Feature request ... What about a thermal camera in the next fairphone? This is useful, for example, to find defective components on circuit boards. That would be a great killer feature. Too many electrical devices are thrown away just because something small is broken, but can be repaired for only a few cent. A integrated thermal camera would be a great killer-feature! There will probably be other useful use cases.
when releasing a camera comparision its better to add google drive link of all the photos and shot in 4k or atleast 1440 p please

I want so much to buy the Fairphone 5. But the camera is the only negative thing at the moment. Nokia, Sony and Xoami is better. I wish me so much, you put a very good camera in your next fairphone!
Nice update in the photos!
New only think you must fix is the micro phone quality. When you record sound from far (especially in video) the. Sound is really metallic (or anyway bad sound)

Can you do something about the PWM brightness dimming on the PF4?
With low brightness, I feel the PWM flickering.
Why did it take you 3 years to fix the camera software?

Does this also update the quality when using third party camera apps? I use an app that enables me to connect it as a webcam to my computer and i'm wondering if it affects the quality on there
Is this update also for the Fairphone 5 Murena /e/os? By the way, I am a great lover of the Fairphone company. Its not a midrange device but much more. With lightroom or other software Its superb. Raw and jpg are great to work with.
