Hikaru was a ver ambitious and highly talented and aggressive young chess player who clearly aimed at being World Champion. A world dominant Carlsen stopped him as well as everyone else. Finally accepting that, Hikaru changed courses, emphasizing online speed and competing with Magnus there as well as earning a living. He matured well for sure.
Reading the stories about Naka in college, he really seemed to be the guy who never understood the value of community and friendship. His second used to be Ben Finegold. Think about that, Ben would shit on him constantly and he was still the only gm Naka could approach at certain tournaments. As soon as Nakamura started streaming it’s like his soul opened up and he realized that he always needed more support than just his immediate family. Now he’s married, still crushing it online, and seems to have finally been embraced by other top players. You might not be able to play chess like him, but you can still learn from him. It’s no fun to do things in your own, let go of the pride and treat people well.
Share the sources of the stories you read about Naka's time in college. Because, while we might not know who Ben is,, we know who Nakamura is and his background. He's always spoken that chess to him was much more for fun and enjoyment-yes all other GM's say that- but that's what fuelles him to go into streaming, added tothe fact that he felt like he'll "always be second best to Fabiano and Carlsen".
that jealousy is not even justifiable since Hikaru's score against magnus is soo bad and he didnt win the candidates once , didn't even get second place or even third place
"I'm just a streamer" is his biggest cope ever. It was his fall back option. It's like when you get rejected from Harvard and then you're like "well community college is better anyway"
I’m so torn who to root for lol. I want to root for either American to win the candidates. But if one of them does win, I’ll also be torn who to root for in the championship because the D4 player in me loves Ding.
My guess is, they were competitors, with Magnus having advantage. However, now Hikaru is a professional chess streamer 1st and professional chess competitor 2nd. His income is no longer bound by his capacity to beat Magnus.
its because back on icc days hikaru used to mock magnus with his usernames back then, hikaru was the best blitz player back in 2009 or something like that and he was having a bit of an ego because of that... nowadays there is little to no reason to for him to do that because he no longer is the best online blitz player
Hikaru obviously loves chess. But he also loves views. A Magnus rivalry is the 2nd best thing of this career. The first is being a top-rated chess player.
If you're were not on good terms with younger Magnus, then it's probably because you might get in his way. Anyone who gets in his way is his enemy. Really, it's a compliment to your chess level. The bigger the cold shoulder, the more he respects your chess.
They weren't on good terms due to Hikaru's belief that he was on Magnus' level in classical chess, which he clearly was not. Everyone seemed to know this except Hikaru. He was probably only the 4th best US classical chess player. Magnus even had more respect for Wesley So in that regard, than Hikaru, and I think he let it be known clearly. Magnus was never the one with the issue. He had clearly been the best in the world for years. Only Fabi had come close. The issue was Hikari, his arrogance that constantly went unfulfilled, and his lack of social skills. In short, he needed to grow up a little.
At least he did grow up, clearly matured from a decade ago. Magnus is a disgraceful world champion, hopefully someone washes the floor with that baby soon. So embarrassing to have someone like him standing at the pinnacle of the sport.
Weird comment, it wasn't a random rant but an answer to a question. Besides that all the top players mention magnus regularly in media because he's the top rated player.
Magnus won multiple world championships in alle 3 important time formats. As long as hikaru is not listed here he can’t considered to be an “enemy” but only a tumbling stone on Magnus’ patch. He won some online matches because magnus is playing with a broken mouse from 1985…
I like Hikaru but I hate the whole shtick that he dosnt care about being world champion he’s just doing it for the content it clearly isn’t true yet he sticks to it
But he indeed only do it for the content tho, he even stated that he started preparing only 3 weeks before candidates thats why he lost againts vidit. He even posted every recaps on his youtube channel so even if he does indeed care that wouldn't make him a liar.
@@liljackypaper Yeah. Nepo is leading so far and looks in good shape too, he might score a candidate hat trick. But I would love if any of the juniors wins the candidate this time. Would be great to watch the WCC match.
Hikaru is not now nor will ever be the best in the world, but at least he is a super gm and absolutely killer in bullet, blitz, and streaming. The best everyone here will do is comment on his career and be a critic. 😂😂😂
Hikaru talking about Magnus: 😐
Levy taking about Magnus: 🤑🤑
Levy a 🐀🐀
🤑+🥛
I ❤ levi
Levy glazes Magnus even when he loses bro its like you don’t need to defend your glorious king magnus 😂
Hikaru talking about Magnus like his ex…
FELLAS! WHAT IF HIKARU AND MAGNUS-
Every chess player talks about Magnus like their ex..
Ever since Naka referred to Magnuts as "Sauron", things have been pretty frosty between them
They were not on good terms until that fatidical day…
the day that united chess enemies into friends…
the day of the legendary double bongcloud draw
or the day where they both joined forces against Hans.
That truly was the funniest chess moment I have seen
Hikaru is not good enough to be magnus' enemy
@@kartikeyatiwari2502 Hikaru is the best fast chess player probably ever. He certainly is good enough.
@@PlyrMava. yea thats why hikaru won so many world rapid and blitz events..
Hikaru having also mellowed with age contributes to like 70% of it
He was so much more abrasive when he was younger
Facts
He’s chilled out massively. He’s cool now. Completely different to how he was 10 years ago. The wife has made him a much better person.
Lol.... 😂😂😂 This did not age well😅

Character development in anime be like
Jealousy caused hikaru many sleepless nights because he indeed does care
that jealousy is not even justifiable since Hikaru's score against magnus is soo bad and he didnt win the candidates once , didn't even get second place or even third place

backwards pawns variant when?
Dude that is the most dildo looking piece. Don't do it
Agreed
Or an ice cream cone
It wasn't the fact that Hikaru's goal was the World Championship that made Magnus not like him.
What does hikaru meant when he told, that he and magnus was not on good terms?
I think not necessarily they did fight but more on they would rather not interact/friendly with each other before

Hikaru set himself up as the only guy good enough to challenge Magnus and he paid big for that and became an elite streamer

oh so he DOES care
It all changed after Hikaru defended Magnus' dubious Hans - Carlsen scandal, where they ended on same side. Strong bromanse🤣❤❤❤❤❤❤

I hope Ding is able to stand his ground
There's virtually no hope of that. If I'm proven wrong, it'll be the most shocking thing to me in years (in terms of my assessments being wrong).
