I learned how to ride on an 1978 XR75. Just seeing this fills my heart with wonderful memories. I still have a scar from a wipeout, when the peg put a hole in my shin! Kaplan, you guys give the ultimate respect and effort into preserving motorcycle history. I love this channel.
@@KaplanCycles I just got a super clean 82 100XR, younger kid had it and sold it to me. I'm not a big guy. Thought it would be a decent one to just rip around on. Came with original service manual, plastics are all fine and excellent. Kid really took super good care of it. Starts right up, one crank. He was selling it to get something bigger, I just So happened to find it at the right time.
My entire world changed forever when my friend showed up one day with this exact bike. That was it for me. Nothing in the world would ever matter like motorcycles did.
Thank you for posting this video . My late friend Troy had a Honda XR100 that we put on lots of miles together . This video has brought back many fun memories of being a kid again .
100%. My dad got me an '83 XR80 out of the local buy and sell for $800 back in the early 2000's. Ran like a dream despite being 20 years old at the time. Rode that thing all the live long day when I was a kid!
That bike brings back a lot of childhood memories for sure!! I had a TM75 2 stroke and a lot of cool kids had the XR 75-80's. So....as an adult in 1995 i bought a brand new XR 600! 😂 then a CR480 and an 85' CR500
Hoooly Non-Ripperz. Iconic for sure. I grew up on a ‘77 XR75 ( complete w/ steal tank + knee dents ) I was 11yrs old. It screamed for mercy because my friend next door had a CR80 and It drove me crazy if he got away from me in the woods. I had no chance in the fields and I bounced back up in the air hitting jumps in 4th gear before moving into a ‘82 RM 125 ‘Full Floater’ in my teens. Priceless times, Loved those days !! Thanks for all the reminders Kaplan America! I’m 51 now, im coming to see y’all and buy something soon !! I just have to ! For the love of dirt! Ha.
I started on a little 50cc Honda when I was 4. Moved to an xr75 in 1977. Ive searched far and wide for my old one. Found it and guy still had it running and his grandkids are riding it today. No rebuild on the engine. Just routine maintenance chains tires etc. I offered him 2k for it and he wont sell it. It was so much of my childhood that Id love to have it back.
I just got back into fully restoring and rebuilding my 84 xr80. It's probably the best little bike to ever own! I'll be getting some videos up here shortly rippin it up. Love the video
Had an '81 or '82 XR75 as 1st bike. Was great learning machine that gave hrs of fun. Sold it an got a '85 KX80. Thats when the racing started! #RacewayPark #Englishtown #Fox
Got one in the shed. Taught all my kids to ride a clutch on it. Lots of good memories. Holding onto it so maybe I can teach the grandkids on the same bike someday.
Had a 86 XR100 back in the day and rode the back sprocket off it. I wanted a CR80 bad but pops wouldn’t get me one. I’m 47 now and ride a KTM 250 XCW to get my 2T fix I had as a young buck.
When I was in elementary school the neighbor gave me a 70's XR80. It was rode to death and it was wrecked hard a few times so he was giving it away as scrap. I got it running again and put new rings and lapped the valves in. Rebuilt the carburetor and It also needed cables and brake linkages. I sold it for $50 bucks a few years later still running to a guy that wanted just a rolling frame. I didn't bother to do a full rebuild on it as the kick starter and shifter had been welded on and it would have needed a donor engine.
I couldn’t believe it when I saw that I’m 41 years old that was my first bike when I was 11 years old I absolutely rode the heck out of that thing I loved it. That was the last four stroke dirtbike ever had. I still can’t get out of the 90s. With my 250
My first ever bike and the exact year too!! Going off jumps on this thing was dicey!!! But it just kept on runnin'!!! You guys find some kick ass moto memories!
I love these bikes super comfortable durable and can still throw it around like a champ handles super well. All around great reliable little bikes that aim to please. Ps 01 in white would of looked sweet.
I had a 1980 model! I wanted The cr 80 so bad... If I remember correctly....it was the first year... also Honda debuted the Xl 80... Complete with blinkers and head and tail lights
Them engines was just the same as the domaintor 650 had one left it for a few months had a good battery on turned over after about three times on the button but they don't make them like they use to do god bless the old classic keep them going
I got one of these bad boys in the shed. 85 XR80R. Definitely not as pretty as that one, but it needs some work. Bought a BBR big bore kit for it. Still saving for someone to help fix it for me.
Nice bike and it is a true icon and every bit as important as it's bigger brothers . Important to remember that Honda sell the CRF 110 which is the classic flat cylinder bombproof engine .My kids have one and it's been thrashed mercilessly and still comes back for more . Also the CRF125f and CRF250f ( the 250 sadly not in the UK ) which are fun bikes , not racing bikes and just good fun . Hats off to Honda for keeping it real for a large percentage of people that cant spend 5 or 6 thousand pounds on a thoroughbred .
I had an xr75 but i dont know because the neighbor kids tore it up before i had a chance to learn how to ride it. My dad never bought me another motorcycle.
i miss riding around the farm on one of these. i think it was the first manual bike i'd been on. tearing down the race at who knows what speed to go let the girls out for milking. fun times
My RM was awesome. The most fun a kid can have.
Fixing up a 1980 XR80 with my son right now. Good times.

One of the most iconic bikes to most people that rode as a kid!
The most important riding of my life was on XR75. Graduated to XR200 when this was around. Best bike a kid could own.

Hello from Alberta. I had an XR80 in the late 80s. I used it to explore all the trails and back roads after school. I wish I had kept it.

I had a xl75 when I was in my early 20s and I can guarantee where the rm 250s went the xl was rite behind em
Had a 81 XR80 and ran the hell out of it. Never changed the oil and used my dads lawn mower gas. Always ran. Will never forget those days.
My 1st bike was 79 xr80 . Best bikes ever made. 👍🇦🇺

My first ride was a 78 XR75, most (exploring) fun I have ever had on a motorbike was on that machine, never let me down ever.
My first ever bike and the exact year too!! Going off jumps on this thing was dicey!!! But it just kept on runnin'!!! You guys find some kick ass moto memories!
I remember moving from my Indian 50cc to an XR75. Learned how to shift gears on it. A few years later I got a 78' YZ80 with the monoshock.
I love these bikes super comfortable durable and can still throw it around like a champ handles super well. All around great reliable little bikes that aim to please. Ps 01 in white would of looked sweet.
Where can I get a number plate like that ? Beautiful unit
I had a 1980 model! I wanted The cr 80 so bad... If I remember correctly....it was the first year... also Honda debuted the Xl 80... Complete with blinkers and head and tail lights
My buddy's XR80 was the first bike I was ever on. That was back in '83 in 7th grade, but it still seems like yesterday. Good time for sure.
Same here!
No wait I rode a 90s Honda 50 first but only one time
YES!
Them engines was just the same as the domaintor 650 had one left it for a few months had a good battery on turned over after about three times on the button but they don't make them like they use to do god bless the old classic keep them going
Lol I had to smile when he talked about cleaning and gapping points.. now that’s old school
And the best school !
Man I rode this bike until my eyes watered it was a beast my friend had one and let me ride it
Literally I cannot think of another bike that comes close to the durability of these bikes. I still rip it on mine . One of the GOATS of dirtbikes.
I got one of these bad boys in the shed. 85 XR80R. Definitely not as pretty as that one, but it needs some work. Bought a BBR big bore kit for it. Still saving for someone to help fix it for me.
they def needed a better skid plate. tore a hole through my 1990 lower case, and each time i rode it, i had to file the points to get it to start.
I thought my KX450 had the biggest exhaust. That bazooka is huge. My first ride on a clutch/gear bike was a XR80 back in 87.
1979 I had a Xr75 and 80 Big mistake getting rid of them
We all make mistakes. I have made more than anyone ! LOL.
Is that front fender also from dc plastics?

The 75 is cool but i sure would like to hear some music from the Elsinore i see in that line along the wall.
He just did a video on an Elsinore 250 like 2 days ago.
Next video!
I am really partial to the XR75. The silver one with the red stripes.
80 XR is the bike John Connor rides in the movie Terminator 2: The Judgment day.
Would like to have that bike just for that.
I had an xr75 but i dont know because the neighbor kids tore it up before i had a chance to learn how to ride it. My dad never bought me another motorcycle.
