Kids that fear being hit go In to fight or flight mode .Fear can actually cause them to become paralized at the plate.Their bodies become stiff .They are not loose. My kid made it onto his middle school team but know he has went back to his old way at the plate .Nothing you do or say works. It's something they themselves have to overcome. If he wasn't a pretty good pitcher he wouldn't be playing.Funny though how he has no fear on the mound.I never worry about my kid in the batters box it's the mound I worry about as a parent.

I was searching for videos on this. I read your comment and we are on the same boat. Did your son figure it out. My son actually great 2nd-3rd baseman also but pitching has kept him on this team.

Yes, in middle school he ended up batting .400 in about six games before Covid ended their season. I think the key was coach told him he would have to bunt if he wasn't going to hit .He hated bunting so he just started hitting.

@@scotthulsey8763 thank you for sharing. We aren’t there yet. The mental part of this beautiful game can really break you sometimes.
Going into soph year let’s see what happens.

Negative, if he thinks soft tossing a Wiffle Ball at a 45 degree angle fixes stepping out he’s not very efficient. 1 of the best ways to correct stepping out is put them on a rectangular board 4” of the ground so they only have 1 way to step is forward without stepping off. Repetition on that board and it won’t be fixed without working time and time again with this drill. Remove board when they show improvement and re implement it when they regress. Not only that it’s all about the Coach if your not praising them when they get better just even slightly then just stop trying to Coach- you need to quit. Kids will flourish when they enjoy practicing. Study parents and coaches that have hard hitters and you will see they all have something in common. Once you figure that out then you can start to understand how to teach. Be the Best Teacher you can be and you might mold a great hitter!

if he gets a little wider and bends his knees more he wont have to stride to generate all the power.
