I had the same problem. The cooktop is 13 years old and hasn't given me any problems. Voltage surges are not an issue in my area. Given the repair costs, I decided to carefully take it apart. I am comfortable with electronics but by no means an expert. Two electrolytic capacitors on the main power board were faulty. Replaced them at a cost of $2. System now works fine. Peter

Mine did this after a big boilover. After drying off and sitting unused for a month it seems fine now. I might silicone the front edge under the trim piece.

We have the same cooktop. This appliance has had more service calls than all our other appliances combined. I installed a whole house surge protector which has helped but not every time. This electronics are very poorly engineered to handle voltage fluctuations.

How long have you had it? Ours worked fine until about 10 years old - then we lived with the glitches for 2 years until we could get it fixed. Still working fine. The repairman looked at the parts that he replaced and said they were much more heavy duty than the ones being made in years since ours was.
Update Dec 2021: Still working like a charm.

Elle scooter It was installed in 2008 and started having issues about 2010. The last technician was much more thorough than his predecessors and took the entire cooktop apart and tested each component. He mentioned a line filter would help so I installed a whole home unit and it has reduced the frequency of this problem to about once a year. The components do look robustly built but the electronics are very poor at handling fluctuations in line voltage.

@@JayBrockway About a year ago we replaced our rusting outdoor electrical box, at which time we had a whole house surge protector and a generator outlet added. That surge protector gives us peace of mind for all appliances. Storms often result in blown neighborhood transformers here.
