Be careful still, the scams will only get more and more advanced. Sometimes (all be it rarely) they are incredibly intricate and believable.

@@carrie-annamc2803 I tell seniors to never give money to anyone through email or from the phone. Most of them are old enough they don't need those modern conviniences. So if anyone really needs money they will send you mail or set up a meeting in person. It just makes it easier than trying to explain a lot of these scams. I told my grand parents years ago to call me if their computer ever had any real issues.

Kitboga has a pure heart as he sometimes voices he's upset with himself for saying certain things. I'm in law enforcement and took a case where some lady, recently widowed bought 35,000 in target gift cards and gave the numbers to the scammer. She lost 35k to these vermin scammers. When Kitboga wastes the time of a scammer he's saving someone from losing everything. God bless Kitboga.

They might think it's unusual to buy so many gift cards but they may not question it if they don't have some understanding that there may be something sinister afoot. My grandpa once got scammed for thousands because the scammer claimed he kidnapped his granddaughter (my sister). The scammer also had a girl to scream and act scared. My grandpa was in his 90s at the time and didn’t know any better.

My grandma had a scammer call and say one of us was kidnapped and she called my mom on her other phone to check. She was a smart cookie. Luckily she knew about scammers at that time and kept her wits. If it was my grandpa he would have paid asap.

Tbh I don't think that's a good idea. Scammers might be recording your conversation and anything you said to them might be used out of context for a fraud elsewhere.
While that is funny, it would miss the point of scam-baiting: to keep scammers occupied and away from genuine victims as much as possible.
The biggest issue with the fake popup like this, is when the scammers tell Kit to reboot his pc, he needs to make it so the popup shows up again and doesn't 'disappear'.
I'd love to talk to someone who falls for these because I can't understand why anyone thinks buying a gift card is a valid way to pay someone. I know they target the elderly but idk
Gift cards are harder to track.
Not everyone has the same education or social understanding. People with mental health problems are often the easiest to target. This includes people who have early onset Alzheimer's. I've looked after people who function quite well but are very suggestible. Almost like how a young child is. Taking advantage of this is how this happens.

I think this preys on the psychological phenomenon that many people are too scared to embarrass themselves in front of an "expert", and thus they are too scared to doubt what the "expert" is saying and to say something against it. In many cases even if the person is 99.9% sure that it cannot possibly be right, their fear of personal embarrassment and humiliation in front of an "expert" is too strong and overrides these doubts. This is, of course, irrational thinking, but that's just how the human psyche works in many cases.
Yeah, typically a real company will inform you that you'll receive your refund in 3-5 business days. They have no reason to see your bank.

I know. They prey on people who are alone and probably somewhat confused and they assume that the scammers are honest.
