So glad you did this, and I'm happy you finally got to Virgin. 1. You can eat at the same restaurant every night -- you just can't book in advance every night. Most of the time they have plenty of room for walk-ins. 2. Even though the Galley is sit-down-and-order, I recommend walking through every day. Each station has daily specials that aren't on the menu. 3. Ohhhh. You missed The Dock. The food is FANTASTIC. 4. I found Ship Eats to be lacking, but YMMV. 5. Bar Tab is nonrefundable. Unless you're going to use the entire amount you paid for, use Sailor Loot instead. (Sailor Loot is the other type of account credit -- and it IS refundable.) 6. LOVED the shows. Yeah, I kind of wish there was a Broadway type show, but the shows they have are excellent! 7. When you go back, splurge on a suite. The bathroom will blow you away. We are soooo glad we splurged! 8. Parties occur late at night. If you're not a party person, don't stress about Virgin! You can have a relaxing cruise. 9. LOL. It did take most of the cruise for me to figure out the whole layout. There IS discreet signage for navigation. As you leave the elevator area, you'll find it as you turn to each side. We used it constantly, and it kept us from getting lost. Now, they don't label each AREA, which would be helpful. For ME -- a 55-year-old, fluffy, non-partying, food-loving introvert, Virgin Voyages is... PERFECT. I had an amazing time.

I cruised on Virgin once. Got two more reserved right away with my next in April 2023. First off, your review is spot on. I love food, need breaks from kids running around, and don't dance or gamble. I loved the quiet areas, free arcade games, and all of the snacks and candy that I wanted to eat. The spin class was fun as heck and I do recommend you try it. The instructor was the nicest and most understanding spin instructor I've ever had and I'm sure it's the same on all of their ships. For those of you on the fence whatch the whole series that Dee and Jay have put together and shared with us. The entire series was worth the time, and I appreciated it even though I had already cruised with Virgin. Thank you for this series. Can't wait for the next.

I just booked Valiant Lady for Feb 2024. My first time and my 1st 8 day. I have only ever sailed Royal. The kid free is one of the main reasons as a 50 something cruiser that has grown kids. Love your reviews. UPSDATE - my 8 day got cancelled as Virgin moved my ship to take over for the Brilliant lady delay. SO now I am taking the sailing ut of san Juan - very port intensive. I watched your St Lucia Cruise port video and I think I am going to take Edmund tours - SO I can buy a Piton for Jay!
I love the idea of an afternoon boarding time so when you debark its not so rushed. I always feel like debarkation takes away from the cruising experience because its so rushed. There really isnt a need to get on a ship at 10 am when it doesn't leave until 4.

When I hear "so much good food" from Jay, I am impressed. We will be checking this line out. Food is the one thing we look forward to on cruises, if it's bad, people notice.
The "regular" coffee in The Galley is real brewed coffee, not the "yuk" stuff from syrup that some cruise lines serve. Just to be clear, you COULD eat at the same restaurant each night. You are restricted in the number of advance dinner reservations you can book at each restaurant. After booking, you can shuffle around your dinner reservations any way you want. The Dock is yummy...yes, it is small plates. One is a snack 2 or 3 is a meal. Grounds Club has fresh baked cookies in the afternoon--they go really fast! Yes, there is a $5 service fee for Ship Eats, but if you purchase anything with a cost, the service fee is waived. That can be a cold pressed juice, alcohol, specialty coffee, etc. Nice thing about alcohol prices is that the tip is already included. This makes them less than many other lines. They have recently added some signs by the elevators, but more signs would be helpful. If you get announcements, they are serious or emergency...but we never felt we were missing anything. They did have a "what's happening on board today" show at 10 each morning. The status match has been extended thru March 31, 2023. Hopefully it will be entended beyond that. They did change the "shake for champagne" to a $100 bar tab, giving us more options, Yes, it was the cocktail party included. On VV, you either qualify or you don't....if you qualify for a match, you get the Deep Blue Extras. The list of what qualifies is on the website under "loyalty." If you want to attend a show or exercise class that is "full," you can show up for a stand by line. If someone doesn't show up by a couple minutes before show time, you will get in. I didn't know this for shows, and missed one that I wanted to see....another cruiser told me the next day that it had been half full with lots of no shows. Best thing I can say...we did our first VV, and liked it so much that we booked 3 more! There were some things that could be better, but overall it was great. Nice review, guys.
Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady was my first-ever cruise and I had a fantastic time. Your videos were excellent, I want to take the cruise you took because I want longer on the ship and I've never been to either port. Your review is spot-on and I had to laugh at your criticism of the staircase, yes it's nitpicking but I had the same thoughts as you did about it.

Fun. I literally just came back from the Valiant Lady this past weekend. Note that they might the pool party to the Red Room as well depending on weather condition. It was too rocky outdoor last Thurs so they moved the venue. So the onboard shows were definitely not for every one. My other half was not a fan at all. Test Kitchen was an experience the first time but speaking to some crew members a lot of sailors didn't enjoy it as much. Since last week was our second voyage we didn't bother with dining at Test Kitchen. So on app you can book at most twice for the same restaurant for voyages that are >7 days and yes if your crowd is small you can usually just walk up and try standby. For The Wake though, the hostess told us to try back in an hour for brunch so if anything please "BOOK" The Wake ahead of time. We went straight to the Galley then. We booked "The Wake on both of our voyages and we still had to wait 15-20 mins for a table so FYI. Aside from that it is definitely something different from NCL or RCI, etc. If you are into big productions, rowdy crowd, real pools, etc. than Virgin is probably not for you. My girlfriend and I are more into reading and there are just too many nooks (Dock House, Social Club, Daught Haus, Ground Club where you can just lounge, and then 6-7 bars if you felt like having a drink as well) you can hide and do your own thing. Outdoor hot tubs are almost always vacant and the running track is at the top of the ship rather than lower deck. All in all to us it was good and we are heading back again next year.

I'm glad you sailed Virgin. I appreciate your reviews. Long gone are days of Ikea like furniture for me. I'm tall and 60 soon so I like comfortable furniture. The food, however, looked amazing. The activities not so much. Virgin cruises is definitely not for me. I probably would have enjoyed such a cruise a few decades ago.
Thank you for the wrap up video! This really helped me have a better understanding of Virgin and really interested in trying it out! My impression was that it was definitely a party cruise and I do not want that nor to be around that type of crowd. I’m very happy to hear that it’s not that way and that there are all types of people on the ship!

We used to do one after every single cruise, but felt they were getting rather repetitive, ha ha... Virgin felt extra special, but we might try to toss them in here and there on cruise lines we don't sail as often, or newer ships, etc. Thankee!! :D

Thank you for the wrap-up and the whole vlog series! I'm still on the fence about Virgin. I would love the relaxed debark and having no kids around. The food looks amazing. Scarlet Night seems like a cool concept. But although the entertainment you showed looks great (except for NSA; I don't even care for the Quest lol), I didn't see a ton of live music, which is my favorite part of cruising. I'm not a dance party person, but give me a great piano guy or pub singer or cover band or jazz band or Latin band or orchestra, and I'm happy. I think I probably will give Virgin a try at some point though.
Royal Caribbean also charges you 3% tables cash advance. If you charge room for slots they monitor you on what you use and was told they could lock your account.
OMGOSH: You should have made the dock your 1st eats stop. The small plates of shrimp kabobs, steak, octopus, and chicken kabobs were the best ever. Whenever it was time for that afternoon, hunger hit. That was the only place I wanted to be. Laying on the couch loungers, watching the wake, flipping up the flag, ordering, then being served like royalty. The best. Don't know if you knew about sail with friends loot? And the promo we got was a $600.00 OBC with our next booking. We cruised November 25, Costa Maya, didn't get to go to Bimini, Cozumel is where several cruiselines went to wait out a storm. I agree with not having enough signage. And we missed a few shows and eats. Will be making it up this coming December cruise. Thanks for your honest input.
I really enjoyed your Vlogs and the wrap up. I’ve been intrigued with Virgin but was worried that my husband and I were to “old” to enjoy it(almost 50 and 52 respectively). There is a video going around where a cruise director gives a bit of behind-the-scenes info. They take the average age of cruisers and actually adjust the music playing around the ship to the decades they were "young". So, most folks 50+ on that specific voyage? Expect more 70's & 80's music. I'm 48, my wife is 57 and we never felt out of place age wise.

I really enjoyed your Virgin vlogs! My spouse and I had been considering a Virgin cruise for a little while now, and I think your videos have convinced us. My main concern is that teeny lil pool. If they had a big ole Royal Caribbean sized pool, we would’ve already pulled the trigger and booked. But the food and entertainment look great.
The mood lighting you find by swiping up in the main screen - so when you see the light/temperature dials..you swipe the screen up and the mood lighting appears....even after spending 4 weeks on valiant lady i still find it hard to find the mood lighting controls

Lick Me Til I Scream was so fun! I had a different flavor every day! My favorite was rum raisin- huge raisins and so good! Only saw it available one day. Pink Agave was so good, too. We’re planning on another cruise to Caribbean in 2024. Really enjoyed Virgin.
Thanks for a great series…I had been looking to book a Virgin cruise but haven’t done so…currently we have been sailing mostly Celebrity but our friends are trying to convince us to try Virgin….they have done a couple and loved it…I am just concerned about having to book shows and restaurants…shows are an important part of the cruise experience and would be really disappointed that I wouldn’t be able to see one if I get a late boarding time since I don’t think the status match that gives you early boarding goes into ‘23…I almost feel like I would be compelled to book a suite to get early boarding…otherwise I think it looks fun and hopefully will be able to sail soon
I watched the whole series, and despite a lot of coverage in part 6 as well as in this video, I honestly have NO IDEA what Scarlet Night is! It just looked like a bunch of random chaos! Is there a concept? Is there any way to ensure you even catch the important parts, as stuff appears to be happening simultaneously all around the ship?
No, there's no way to catch everything all around the ship specifically. You can plan to catch two or three advertised main events like the telling of the story of Scarlet Night in the Roundabout, the cabaret show with the Octopus Queen in the Red Room, and the big party on the pool deck, but otherwise it's a random string of unadvertised pop-up performances all over the ship!! :P
If you have Sailor Loot, Coffee Credit, and Bar Tab, do the staff know which credit to use or you have to tell them each time you buy something? Also, are there any limits to what type of drinks you can buy with the bar tab?

Normally being able to stream/upload versus not having access. Watching UA-cam, etc. Dee was able to make calls over the basic wifi though, which was surprising!!
I think they do have solo cabins -- both insider and outsider with a window (but not terrace). You get the big upcharge if you go as high as a sea terrace, I believe. At least that's what I remember.

Also keep an eye out for no single supplement offers. We decided to finally book Virgin this past weekend because it meant not having to share the small cabin and split the beds for adult family members traveling together. We each booked an XL Sea Terrace cabin a couple doors down from each other.
Yes, that would be recommended, as the popular options may fill up quickly. You can reserve online in advance of the cruise, usually 45 days ahead of sailing unless you're in a suite-type cabin, then you can reserve before everyone else.
QUESTION: On Virgin do you need to have a reservation for certain restaurants? I booked late and all restaurants are not available for a party of 1. Can you just show up to see if there’s a table available?
You should be able to do standby, sure! Just show up at the restaurant you want each evening and join the waitlist. Or you can check for reservations once onboard maybe.

We’ve had plenty of fun and flamboyant crew members and cruise directors on other lines as well. Good gravy, we love Cousin Cookie on Carnival, ha ha… but I digress. You won’t really know until you sail, since the crew is ever-changing, but I’d say on our sailing, it was really just two… Tammy the Diva and Cameron the Artist… that were over-the-top characters, as it were. ~Jay

I'm glad you sailed Virgin. I appreciate your reviews. Long gone are days of Ikea like furniture for me. I'm tall and 60 soon so I like comfortable furniture. The food, however, looked amazing. The activities not so much. Virgin cruises is definitely not for me. I probably would have enjoyed such a cruise a few decades ago.
Thank you for the wrap up video! This really helped me have a better understanding of Virgin and really interested in trying it out! My impression was that it was definitely a party cruise and I do not want that nor to be around that type of crowd. I’m very happy to hear that it’s not that way and that there are all types of people on the ship!

We used to do one after every single cruise, but felt they were getting rather repetitive, ha ha... Virgin felt extra special, but we might try to toss them in here and there on cruise lines we don't sail as often, or newer ships, etc. Thankee!! :D

Thank you for the wrap-up and the whole vlog series! I'm still on the fence about Virgin. I would love the relaxed debark and having no kids around. The food looks amazing. Scarlet Night seems like a cool concept. But although the entertainment you showed looks great (except for NSA; I don't even care for the Quest lol), I didn't see a ton of live music, which is my favorite part of cruising. I'm not a dance party person, but give me a great piano guy or pub singer or cover band or jazz band or Latin band or orchestra, and I'm happy. I think I probably will give Virgin a try at some point though.

OMGOSH: You should have made the dock your 1st eats stop. The small plates of shrimp kabobs, steak, octopus, and chicken kabobs were the best ever. Whenever it was time for that afternoon, hunger hit. That was the only place I wanted to be. Laying on the couch loungers, watching the wake, flipping up the flag, ordering, then being served like royalty. The best. Don't know if you knew about sail with friends loot? And the promo we got was a $600.00 OBC with our next booking. We cruised November 25, Costa Maya, didn't get to go to Bimini, Cozumel is where several cruiselines went to wait out a storm. I agree with not having enough signage. And we missed a few shows and eats. Will be making it up this coming December cruise. Thanks for your honest input.
I really enjoyed your Vlogs and the wrap up. I’ve been intrigued with Virgin but was worried that my husband and I were to “old” to enjoy it(almost 50 and 52 respectively). It was nice to hear that their was such a wide variety in ages. We may need to put Virgin on our try list! Thanks again for all your great content. There is a video going around where a cruise director gives a bit of behind-the-scenes info. They take the average age of cruisers and actually adjust the music playing around the ship to the decades they were "young". So, most folks 50+ on that specific voyage? Expect more 70's & 80's music. I'm 48, my wife is 57 and we never felt out of place age wise.

I really enjoyed your Virgin vlogs! My spouse and I had been considering a Virgin cruise for a little while now, and I think your videos have convinced us. My main concern is that teeny lil pool. If they had a big ole Royal Caribbean sized pool, we would’ve already pulled the trigger and booked. But the food and entertainment look great.

The mood lighting you find by swiping up in the main screen - so when you see the light/temperature dials..you swipe the screen up and the mood lighting appears....even after spending 4 weeks on valiant lady i still find it hard to find the mood lighting controls

Lick Me Til I Scream was so fun! I had a different flavor every day! My favorite was rum raisin- huge raisins and so good! Only saw it available one day. Pink Agave was so good, too. We’re planning on another cruise to Caribbean in 2024. Really enjoyed Virgin.

Thanks for a great series…I had been looking to book a Virgin cruise but haven’t done so…currently we have been sailing mostly Celebrity but our friends are trying to convince us to try Virgin….they have done a couple and loved it…I am just concerned about having to book shows and restaurants…shows are an important part of the cruise experience and would be really disappointed that I wouldn’t be able to see one if I get a late boarding time since I don’t think the status match that gives you early boarding goes into ‘23…I almost feel like I would be compelled to book a suite to get early boarding…otherwise I think it looks fun and hopefully will be able to sail soon
I sure hope Virgin starts sailing from the west coast at some point.

I watched the whole series, and despite a lot of coverage in part 6 as well as in this video, I honestly have NO IDEA what Scarlet Night is! It just looked like a bunch of random chaos! Is there a concept? Is there any way to ensure you even catch the important parts, as stuff appears to be happening simultaneously all around the ship?
No, there's no way to catch everything all around the ship specifically. You can plan to catch two or three advertised main events like the telling of the story of Scarlet Night in the Roundabout, the cabaret show with the Octopus Queen in the Red Room, and the big party on the pool deck, but otherwise it's a random string of unadvertised pop-up performances all over the ship!! :P

If you have Sailor Loot, Coffee Credit, and Bar Tab, do the staff know which credit to use or you have to tell them each time you buy something? Also, are there any limits to what type of drinks you can buy with the bar tab?

Thank you for your honest presentation. Question please. I travel solo. I am not looking for a partner or an extra. This is the way I unwind from a hectic job and my husband does not like to cruise. I have been looking at Virgin but not sure if I want to book mostly because it comes across to me as a couples cruise (Jay’s ‘chocolates’ 😂). Did you see many solo cruisers on your trip?

Virgin is definitely on my list to try. I googled virgin status program and it did list the lines and statuses that they would match.

Super review! What was the difference between premium Wi-Fi and the normal Wi-Fi that everyone gets? Watching all of your videos on virgin I am convinced I need to go on a virgin ship.! it looked amazingly fun!
Normally being able to stream/upload versus not having access. Watching UA-cam, etc. Dee was able to make calls over the basic wifi though, which was surprising!!

I think they do have solo cabins -- both insider and outsider with a window (but not terrace). You get the big upcharge if you go as high as a sea terrace, I believe. At least that's what I remember.

@@parodeejay whispering..They also offer solo sea terraces, of which I have booked for March 2024(it was cheaper, umm less expensive) to book an XL Solo Sea Terrace then the Solo Insider cabin! Go figure!
Also keep an eye out for no single supplement offers. We decided to finally book Virgin this past weekend because it meant not having to share the small cabin and split the beds for adult family members traveling together. We each booked an XL Sea Terrace cabin a couple doors down from each other.

It was per cabin, and we pretty much spent it exactly, ha ha... we might have left a few bucks behind unused, but it was pretty close!! :P
Can you make restaurants reservations in advance?
Yes, that would be recommended, as the popular options may fill up quickly. You can reserve online in advance of the cruise, usually 45 days ahead of sailing unless you're in a suite-type cabin, then you can reserve before everyone else.

QUESTION: On Virgin do you need to have a reservation for certain restaurants? I booked late and all restaurants are not available for a party of 1. Can you just show up to see if there’s a table available?
You should be able to do standby, sure! Just show up at the restaurant you want each evening and join the waitlist. Or you can check for reservations once onboard maybe.

Medium-firm which we didn’t mind, but a little lower than we would have liked, hah. Most all of the furniture around the ship was low!!

I don't mean gay, I mean super flaming "heeeeey!*snaps fingers*" gay. I just don't always want to be confronted with someone sexuality and especially since I'm more conservative in general.. a little gay sprinkled on here or there is fine, but their ads can look super village people esq.
We’ve had plenty of fun and flamboyant crew members and cruise directors on other lines as well. Good gravy, we love Cousin Cookie on Carnival, ha ha… but I digress. You won’t really know until you sail, since the crew is ever-changing, but I’d say on our sailing, it was really just two… Tammy the Diva and Cameron the Artist… that were over-the-top characters, as it were. ~Jay
