What a coincidence, hives in two log cabins in one season. If you knew how rare true log cabins are in our area you'd be impressed. lol
The owner here is a local politician who retired and moved to this secluded piece of heaven.

Thank you for turning everyone to jc bees
How long do trapouts usually take?
***** Usually a couple of weeks. Three weeks is the longest I ever left a trap on but that was just because it was a long way from me and I left it until it was convenient to go get it.
Love the scenery. Looks just like my childhood hometown in Louisiana. Gotta love the Deep South. One of the most beautiful places in the country.
Beekeeping With Benjamin Only about 75 miles from it.
Some time when you are "trappin'" would you explain the making and function of the screen cone? Great presentation!!
Thanx LP
+Larry Peterson Sure will.
Is there anything a chicken won't eat? :)
MyHollowpoint my brother and I would shoot em with rubber bands when we were little and the whole lot of them would go nuts trying to eat them. Best part was when 2 chix got the same rubber band and then one would get snapped by it.
Caleb Welte That's funny.
Caleb Welte I gotta try that!
cool set up- youare the first person ive ever seen do this method-- but im a bit confused----if you have the entries plugged so that the workers cant get in- how then is the queen suppose to get out-?- could you clarify for me- blessings
movinon04 The wire cone is the only opening to the hive. They come out the end of the cone and when they try to return they go to the wall. They don't think to try going through the cone. They are smart but a little slow with puzzles. :)
Hey rooster, you ever done a trap out on a chimney? got a guy up here who has a established hive living in an abandon brick and mortar chimney. he says it's been there at least 2 years. the chimney goes up 3 full stories. any thoughts on this situation. I guess a trap out similar to the one in this video is the only option. your thoughts
***** That would probably be the easiest. Depending on the condition (stability) of the chimney you can use a hammer drill to strategically remove brick to access the hive if you can determine how high up they are. The ones I've seen in chimneys are near the top. I hate heights! Good luck.
My log cabin is treated every 2 years and with diesel fuel in the oil base. they don't like it. There pretty, But Truthfully a log cabin is a pain to keep up ! Its like a loaf of bread to insects. Some time i have to slap myself from wanting to throwing tin or brick around it. I hope you been doing ok in the heat, try to keep your dad out of it Cheers Thanks for sharing.
426 SUPER BEE I about cooked my self on a cut out the other day with a friend of mine. We were both running a hose over our heads when we were done.
I grew up in a loghome. Carpenter bees and ants were a real threat.
Did the queen come out randy ? This hasnt worked for me in the past. Ive got 2 to do atm on public property and not sure about leavin my boxes on public property for weeks
I can't remember about the queen but I do remember that this colony failed rather quickly. One thing I changed after this one is I don't use screen bottoms on traps any more and I narrow the entrance to one penny size hole.
So what happens to the hive and the honey in the wall when you do a trap out? I mean I know what happens to it. Nothing. Isn’t that a huge problem with pests and potentially leaking honey etc? Since people are so rarely accurate about how long the bees have been there 😒
It does pose a potential problem but I give the facts up front and if they want to take a chance it's on them.
Nice video! This may be a silly question but why aren't more hives removed this way in lieu of tearing out? I guess the stored honey would attract other insects?
ArtisanTony Yep, plus it takes too dang long. lol
9:15 It's like the operation game
Do you also get the queen bee out?
If you do a trap out don't you actually leave the hive in place? Won't that cause bug issues later for them? Roaches mice moths etc...
What's the meaning behind your username?
Emma Losey This was originally intended to be a dirt bike riding channel and that was the engine size and name of my dirt bike.
Nice! Will the queen eventually come out, or will you have to re-queen that hive?
justlivin Yep, lol. I get the queen about half the time.
How does she get out if the holes are plugged?
you should invest in a real hd video camera.
I have two but for what I do the phone works better. It's too costly to have lenses and camera bodies constantly get dust, dirt and honey in them.
Do the bees get aggressive when they get desperate to get in the hive? It's not pretty...it's cool! LOL!
Rob Farrow You would think so but they are too focused on getting in and doing what they need to do.
628DirtRooster Thanks for the reply!
Nice house !
***** I didn't show the good side but it is a mansion to me. Probably 4,000 sf.
This is allot of places for them to make a home. You did a great job at trying to get them. Best wishes
TheEmptynester It's amazing the places they can make use of.
Thanks for another informational video. always a pleasure to watch.
rchopp Thanks bro. Have a great day.
when you do cut outs etc do you have the homeowner sign a paper saying you are not responsible for any damage?
Jen And ED I have a contract but I've only ever used it once and it was because the home owner insisted.
Beautiful scenery nothing like the South(north Alabama here). Awwww the chickens 🐓🐓🐝
Mississippi :)
right on love this video keep them coming the chickens love that stuff fire works at the end were neat also
drvshaft drew Those chickens follow me everywhere waiting on the next treat. haha
A friend of mine lives up in the Smoky Mountains. He was telling me also about the carpenter bees getting into the outside logs and wooden soffit of the log cabins. The bee damage wasn't nothing. The problem came in when the wood hens (Pileated Woodpecker) would find them and tear up the lumber getting at the brood. In case there may be someone who's never heard of a wood hen, they are around a foot tall and first cousin to the Ivory Bill Woodpecker.
MrGSF77 We have the same situation down here but with different birds. It's the worst on soft wood though. They don't dig out hard wood too much.
Just found your channel and been watching a bunch of videos. Great stuff! It really has me wanting bees again. I wanted them anyways but I didn't get the itch again until it was too late to get any. What I did do though was make up a batch of syrup and put out near my garden just to attract some bees since we are in a dearth right now...just so I can go out and watch and hear that buzz...lol...I'll definitely be getting my order in for a package or two for next spring.
Chad Ashton Very cool. I've recommended doing that very thing to a lot of people who can't afford or can't own bees for whatever reason. It's beekeeping without "beekeeping". lol
Do you put a frame with brood inside your box when doing a trap out? Just wondering because I've heard of people doing that to entice them to take care of the young.
+kckrye No, just some old comb.
Been watching you for months. I can't find a video i have not liked yet,lol
+Smokeydabee Charles Coleman Haha As soon as you find one let me know and I'll delete it.
Tasty chicken treats!, haha.
yourbeekeeper Pudding cups. lol
What happens if you leave the honey behind will they have a infestation? Did you ever have to do that because I remember one of your videos showing don't ever leave the honey behind because there was this big pile of roach poo in the video.
It will promote infestation of other insects if another hive doesn't find and rob it out or they they can't get to it.
Good video. I'm taking a day off filming and editing to watch some good videos.
Keep up the good work.
+southernexposure123 Thanks man. Tough finding time for all this right now.
You're welcome.
Winter's coming it'll get better
i bet your chickens just love you lol.those be some happy chickens
+charles dilmore They sure know what's in comb now. If I hold a frame of brood up by the fence they look like school kids staring at a bypassing ice cream truck.
Wow,..cool,..you da bee ninja,...
Bobby Brown LOL A 350 pound ninja.
have u ever deal with africanized bee before?
Emmanuel Thommy Yellow jackets is the closest thing to Africanized bees I've ever fooled with. They made me sick from all the stings.
Have you ever made a video on how to make your funnel you use on trap outs?
Desmond Simmons I don't think so but I give a better look at them in this video ua-cam.com/video/KNufl94Ll4U/v-deo.html I use small gauge stainless wire to sew the screen into a cone shape. I've also used dental floss before. lol
I am doing my first trap out. i used steel wool to clog up the holes. What do you call the blue filter material you use?
Thanks!
Steven Sulik It's a commercial A/C filter. We get it from an HVAC parts supply house and it comes in 24"x24"x1" pieces. I cuts and tears easy and the bees can't get through and it won't rust. :)
Thanks!
Yes it was cool! Lol
Buckrun11 Ha! That was my grandson correcting my wife.
hahaha that carpenter bee was a bit pissed..so did you fonallynget all of the Bess from the log house? how are they doing?
I got them. I can't remember what I did with them though. Might have given them to my dad.
It must be nice to have so many you can give em away!! That's awesome though that you have your family involved. Your brother is also involved isn't he? Don't see much of him. He must be camera shy lol
Earl Cannady He live a little ways off from me but yes he does have bees.
Tjas awesome..its great to see a whole family enjoying it! I've been teaching what I know to my two sons of 18 and 20 in hope that they will get interested and venture with me..oh BTW..added you onbfavebook if you ever use it
Earl Cannady My kids aren't interested unfortunately. I hardly look a facebook.
