Goodness, thic is the most useful channel with info on lithops I've found on UA-cam! I was desperate to find good information on watering, as I am a beginner lithop owner (by a complete accident too) and you are the only person who explains it all is a simple way, using plants you own as examples:) Thank you so much!
It is *totally* thanks to you, Andrea that I am enjoying growing these amazing and weird little beauties! I can't thank you enough for all you taught me about lithops.. 👍🤗
Thank you so much for this invaluable information and presenting it in a way that is easy to understand. I'm new to mastering a succulent & cacti garden here in humid Brisbane Australia, but I now have a much better understanding of how I am going to make my garden thrive and not just survive. 🤗
LOL You should make a fun quiz video where you ask questions about succulents and we get to see how much we know about succulents I would be horrible at guessing the stages of lithops.. For 5 times I thought a new pair of leaves was a bloom 😂😅
On one side I agree with this watering cycle on the other people have them outside in rainy climates or some of them even water them when they are growing and it's fine so what's up about that...
Houston Tx same 🤟🏼 just found your channel after buying a lithops and trying to find care tips !! Definitely watching your vids to see what works for our area 🙌🏼
thank you so much for these info, it confuses me to go by the season alittle and I just got mine and Im soooo glad I didnt water it first thing when it got home lol.
I have two lithops that are in the same pot. They used to do their stages together but this year one of them stalled and is about 6 weeks or so behind the other. The faster one now needs water. The slower one still hasn’t absorbed water from its old leaves. Should I separate them and water the faster one? I’d rather leave them together if possible.
Good video. Thank you for the content! I have a couple of lithops that are still absorbing their outer leaves but the new leaves are very shriveled and looking like pizza. I'm not sure whether I should water or not. I've been holding off for months but they seem to have stalled. As far as I can tell, they're actually healthy but just no longer absorbing their leaves. Any thoughts on how to proceed?
@@SucsForYou Thanks for the quick response! I have them under white leds for 12 hours a day. I measured the ppfd at about 450 with a low end ppfd app on my phone which gives me a dli at about 20 so it should be in that ballpark. I bump up to 14 hours a day in the spring, summer, and fall. The temps stay at about 70F in the winter and 80F in the summer. I'm also located in NC, which is very humid (44-50 inches rainfall per year). I'm thinking about giving them some water since they look so dessicated. Do you think that would be a good idea or should I continue with the tough love?
@@DavinStewart It sounds like decent light so they should be photosynthesizing and absorbing the old leaves. If you think the process has stalled, water them a bit. If the new growth doesn't plump up and stay plump... they're probably going to struggle to complete the cycle.
I liked your video on different stages and when to water. I just started lithops and like that only water very little. Do you have them under a grow light? If yes what strength bulb? And how far from light? I have a few in front window for east sun for few hours Thank you
Mine are currently in a south facing window bc it's so hot. You will probably need to give them more light - east and north aren't the brightest options 🙏
@@SucsForYou I am going to try a south window. They’ll have sun most of the day. Right now we are beginning September and going into fall. Living in Pa should they stay all year? Sorry for all the questions, new at this and want to not kill anyone. I read don’t water tell later in winter? Thank you for your help.
I also just received 10 bare root Lithops, should I do anything with roots or can I just pot with roots as are? One also has roots off bottom of plant. I am going to moisten the potting mix just a little with misting. Hope you don’t mind all the questions, sorry.
What kind of soil is the best for these plant Sand or soil from miracle grow I'm new at these some of these nursery I have gone to have no idea or clue about these plant but have no clue what so ever. Can you please help me with mine.
I have a lithops that I have no clue as to what’s happening with it. It has like a coating on it or something. Would you mind if I sent you a picture of it? Maybe you could tell me what’s happening. I don’t want to loose it.
I am late to the party but have a question. My lithops are at soil level, kinda how I thought they are in wild. Will that hold them back at splitting time? They are about the size of half dollar. My baby ones are kinda just lithoping
They should be fine but what I like to do personally (because it's so humid here) is to make sure the top half of the plant (at least) is surrounded by drainage materials. They help draw away moisture and will help old leaves dry more thoroughly.
Mine are wrinkling and supposedly will grow new leaves at some point, so I'm not watering. Apparently in the latitudes I live, this can happen up to late June, which is kind crazy because they are put to dormancy in beginning of October. So they will only get three or four months of little watering :O
How do I separate two plants that have fully split? They split last summer and are totally separated except the roots are still combined and and afraid to rip them
Thank you thank you! I just got 2 and they are almost finished absorbing their leaves. I love them. They’re so odd. Haha Also, I have 5 of the round split rocks, I think they’re called, not the lithops, but the other ones, and one of them became mushy and collapsed in the center. Maybe you can do Thank you thank you! I just got 2 and they are almost finished absorbing their leaves. Also, I have 5 of the round split rocks, I think they’re called, not the lithosphere but the other ones, and one of them became mushy and collapsed in the center. Maybe overwatering, maybe infection. Hi there! Sorry for the random comment, I just wanna make sure my lithops is okay. Mine has gotten soft over the last few days. It also looks wrinkly, however it’s open down the center (not shut tight like the soft one you had). Considering it’s late winter and almost spring here, I’m under the impression that it’s getting ready to split. Is what I described normal for lithops that are getting ready to split?I’m new to these guys so I wanna make sure this is normal and it’s not sick or anything
Thanks for subscribing!! Lithops should be in a very fast draining soil and without a lot of organic material, there won't be much wicking action via bottom watering. But it's fine if you want to and are sure the soil will dry out in a timely manner 🙏
Not bonsai but similar - a mix I made :) Bonsai should be fine as long as the pot has good drainage holes and preferably is a porous, unglazed clay. (Pot material is more important in humid climates)
Hi Maam how to prepare potting mix for seedling of lithops. I am from hilly region where winter temperature is about 1 degree or minus 1 or 2. Summer temperature is 36 max. Please Maam.how to germinate in winter? Thanks you 🙏
I bought a Lithops at a store that was in very organic soil but blooming. It's a twin that's patterned very much like your twin. I've recently moved it to very gritty soil, about 5 days ago and removed 99% of the organic soil. The blooms are still sticking up which I thought would fall out and it would split but it looks soooo dry. 😞 It's all wrinkled on the sides and the top is sinking. I want to water it so bad but I'm afraid of killing it. Any advice?
@@SucsForYou Thanks! I gave it some water and it's under lights so we'll see. I just kept waiting for it to spit the blooms or whatever happens to them and for it to show signs of splitting but it just kept looking dryer and dryer and almost transparent. 😥
I do recommend individually until you're very familiar with them. Small pots are better but they need to allow at least 3 inches for roots to grow down for mature Lithops.
I’ve lost three mother plants (two were having twins 😢) because the older leaves seemed to tear while splitting and the babies were just mush underneath. I tried but there was no saving them. I have one opening right now with twins and I believe a dead flower? Lol. How can I avoid that? 😭 I moved this one inside under my grow light as we’ve had so much rain the past few days (I live in the Houston area!) and although they were on a sill, in an area where my plants are still bone dry after a week of rain, I wonder if rain could’ve been the issue before? I’d love to stop killing these weird babies lol

If Ive just planted my seedlings around June, when do they begin their "water and don't water" cycle?
I keep the seedlings watered until they're at least a year old
what type of lithops are the two brown and one green ones you showed at the start? thanks!!
L salicola and lesliei I believe ;)

How old are these Lithops?
Guessing about 4-5 years
Whatt do I doo my lithops lost their roots when I was repoting will they survive?
Maybe! Just pot them up in dry soil and wait a few weeks before checking for roots. Keep them out of direct sun, but somewhere warm.

Best practice is to separate them, especially if they're different species or growing at different paces.
Is it proper to water a lithops in the winter that is wrinkly and showing signs of needing water?
Hi, I'm going to receive my lithops by mail, I just would like to know, if to plant them in the pot, how much water should I give for the first time
Fun! I would wait a couple of days after potting and then give them just enough to moisten the soil.
