Jazak Allahu khairan Shaykh. The reason behind not allowing wiping over socks in all Sunni schools of Fiqh is the definition of Jawrabayn. there is a tendency to get obsessed when the real job is to plz Allah, Allah has ordained it obe legit to wipe over socks and khufain, what probably happens inside their minds is probabluy some anxiety, u know practice is to wash, but if people stay away from athaar, ie. ahadith, then habits and observation become your deen, which can be true not only for ordinary ppl but even some ulema, who get kind of peer-pressured from those that are beneath them as far as attainment of knowledge is concerned, they mistakenly first consider it less pious, they forget that God never planned to discomfort us, as we all know wudu in winters is challenging before you have done it, but once you have done it, you realize it was all in your head, so when God had ordained us to do wudu even in winter he knew he was not discomforting us, a person doing wudu in winter, has already struck a great deal of blow to his carnal self by leaving the comfort of his comfy room or bed, rolling up his sleeve and exposing to water, perhaps God thought this was enough of a test for 'My Servant', but well know washing feet always in winter can lead to cracked heals, bruised feet, even bleeding and actually turn one away from worship hence maybe God wanted to do rahmah, maybe people who consider it less pious or outright illegit are those either caught 'am-holier-than-thou- syndrome, 'too perfectionists' etc, this was just to answer 'WHY THEY HIDE IT?'
Related hadith: Tirmidhi 99 📚Al-Mughirah bin Shu`bah narrated: The Prophet performed Wudu' and wiped over his socks and sandals.

Suffice to say even the jawrab needs to be safeeq. Moreso, Imam Ahmed ibn Hambal rehmatulla's statements from al mughni of ibn al qussama seems very clear that his stance is pretty close to what the hanafi say.
Shaykh al Hanabilah Abdullah ibn Aqeel said its جائز to do مسح on شراب (normal socks), meaning they count as those جوارب that are allowed to make مسح on.

@@halalmeatshophk The shaykh presented *authentic evidence* that the Prophet(saws) did it, the companions did it, and the early scholars did it.-- But you say this is a one sided "perspective"? There's nothing more for me to say.
@@halalmeatshophk So the video you claim is a better explanation ironically falls into the same allegation you made against shaykh Uthmaan; that is this brother from seeker's hub fails to, or chooses not to mention any *source* for which he is basing his definition of what jawrabain is, either from Quran, hadith, or linguistic whereas shaykh Uthmaan did from linguistics. Also he mentions the hanafi view and determines that the jawrabain must have all the characteristics of the khuff-- without mentioning any evidence. While shaykh Uthmaan refutes this point, ironically starting @9:50 which you quoted but goes against you. Even still, I won't accuse the brother from seeker's hub of "misguiding", or say "it's low of him", or call him an "egoist" as you did to shaykh Uthmaan. You should fear Allaah regarding what you have no knowledge of(in his heart) *and* what is *not* apparent. Allaah says: O you who believe! Avoid much suspicions, *indeed some suspicions are sins*. And spy not, neither backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it (so hate backbiting). And fear Allah. Verily, Allah is the One Who accepts repentance, Most Merciful (Quran 49:12). Having said that I don't dismiss your point, I respect your right to critique. However what the shaykh presented is the proof that it *is permissible* to wipe over jawrabain. That's the point. May Allaah forgive, guide and have mercy on us Aameen.

Thus he who avoids doubtful matters clears himself in regard to his religion and his honor, but he who falls into doubtful matters [eventually] falls into that which is unlawful, like the shepherd who pastures around a sanctuary, all but grazing therein. Truly every king has a sanctuary, and truly Allah's sanctuary is His prohibitions. So does this mean I can wipe over long ankle adidas socks
Yes
They dont necessarily need to be adidas though 😉
Shaafi'iyyah explain the word ساتر to mean مانع! Hence the understanding of "waterproof". Which of course, left me scratching my head because ...

Jazak Allah khair, I have been looking for an answer to this question for some time. Perfectly answered.
Aass-Salaa-Mu-'Alai-kum w.R.w.B,
I'm not sure if Sheikh Uthman had already mentioned that the prerequisite is that before you leave your house/place you have to make full 'Wu-Du in order for you to be able to wipe over the Leather/Thick Socks.
Just wanted to share the Condition.
Sheikh Uthman had been doing wonderful things for Islam by The Will of Allaah S.W.T.
SuB-'Haan-Allaah.
May Allaah S.W.T. Bless him and his families, and may he continue to excel in his endeavor in Da-'Wah. Aameen.

Notes from my fiqh class from hanbali:
Suffice to say even the jawrab needs to be safeeq. Moreso, Imam Ahmed ibn Hambal rehmatulla's statements from al mughni of ibn al qussama seems very clear that his stance is pretty close to what the hanafi say.
Shaykh al Hanabilah Abdullah ibn Aqeel said its جائز to do مسح on شراب (normal socks), meaning they count as those جوارب that are allowed to make مسح on.
Please post the reference. Sharab is drink.. not socks.

May Allah bless you sheik. Some advice: just put picures on the screen, because we cant see the text you are showing of the books.
After ghusl can i put socks on then wipe over them? Jazak Allahu Khair
Barakallah Feek brother you alway clear our doubts from authentic sources
Salaam mohalaikoum warahmatulah wa barakatu, may Allah reward you for your work djazakallahu khairan. Thank you very much!
Aleykum Salam wa rahmetullahi wa baraketuhu
Shaykh you are a beautiful person and love your work. May Allah increase you in knowledge. I think hanafis fuqaha define what qualifies as a jawrab and for academic honesty those explanations need also be presented. Your views are respected but just to establish Adl here, their madhab should be also presented properly. Wasalam
Mashalah thank you so much shekh jazakalah khayr. my brother told socks have to be waterproof, so I bought waterproof socks for work! I was planning to buy more, but by watching this video I don't think I need that. I believe you are correct!
What type of socks though? Any types of socks, so normal regular socks?

@@halalmeatshophk I did your home work for you.
On the authority of an-Nu'man ibn Basheer (ra), who said:
I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say, "That which is lawful is clear and that which is unlawful is clear, and between the two of them are doubtful matters about which many people do not know. Truly in the body there is a morsel of flesh, which, if it be whole, all the body is whole, and which, if it is diseased, all of [the body] is diseased. Truly, it is the heart."

How thick does the socks have to be ?
So this means if we are outside the house, schooletc. We can wipe of the socks if we washed our feet when we left the house?
what about ankle socks?
As the sheikh said in the video, the area that you regularly wash in wudu must be covered by the socks in order to wipe over them. Meaning that the socks must cover your ankles.
