Guys like Dave never have to provide these priceless tutorials. Thanks for your generosity, Dave.
Elias Antonas ☝🏼
details are good - andjust seeing/hearing how he works is amazing (5-year viewer)
" R-box, Im not really sure what it does but whatever it does it does it really well" LOL! Dave your humor cracks me up! :D
love the way this one ends: "i might not be making a record for you."
another winner, thanks Dave!
Thank you sooo much David, I am eq'n a vocal track right now and with a deadline, it's so sweet to go to an into the lair and get my head around where I need to be.
I live in Hollywood, so to repay you: if you ever need you're car washed or lawn mowed, IT'S THE LEAST I COULD DO:) for my favorite way to acquire knowledge and wisdom.
Viva Las Pensado's place
In my personal opinion, one of your best videos, and boy, is it hard to say that since they're all five stars. I sat here in my control room, with a cup of tea, past midnight, and I really felt like being "there", with you willing to give away some great, great knowledge. Plus, this video has some of the best, spontaneous improvised jokes ever, too :)
Awesome detail, thanks a bunch. I really like the insights into your thoughts on what different frequencies mean to you or what emotions they bring up. Those are always some of my favorite parts of the shows.
Dave is the 🐐. I have not heard a more helpful vocal tutorial. Great work🔥
Thank you David!! You are helping so many of us through your videos.Just wanted to say Thank You.
Hey Dave. Thanks for posting all these videos. They really are helpful.
Dave. Thank you!
I might try that "rich" frequency next time I mix.
Thank you Sir. Please keep the outstanding Job ! I am sure all people watching appreciate your videos ! Not so many producers share the tricks. Those who got some idea from your videos will remember your name.
Bravo maestro! great explanation as always
Thank You Mr.Dave Pensado🙌🙌Very Helpful Video🔥🔥.
Great philosophies shared! Thank you!
I have to say you are the man love the show thanks for the little hints
Legend!
Nowadays, whenever I boost in the +6000khz-area, Davids voice echoes through my head "ur gonna rip peoples heads off!"
The best ITL for me! Thanks!

Un grande Dave Pensado, unos conocimientos muy útiles me llevo, q mejor q aprender de los mejores.
Hey Dave, what happened to the C1sc? you mentioned it and then went onto the channel strip. Would love to see what you were talking about. Any chance you could touch on this In the near future ? Thanks
dave is the man
This guy got me sold
can't wait for this bonnie song. yay
I don't want to sound arrogant but there was one thing I noticed that wasn't correct in what Dave said. He mentioned that he did some volume automation to help the compressor not have to work so hard. The thing is that on an audio track, the volume automation happens after the inserts, not before. The only track type that reverses this is the Master Fader track. This is why clip gain is so amazing; you can do some automation pre-inserts, and some post - whatever floats your boat.
CJProSound I realize this is five years later but he did the automation before other insert effects. Maybe he automated a plugin or the clip itself.
Can't say thank you enough, I am doing bare bones mix, but they are sounding 100% better, :)
Everything...that's ever meant anything.
detox2retox is standing right here
Where can I find ITL #1-31?
How do you get the single mono vox stem to stand out so much? I usually duplicate vox stems n mix them together, obviously compress them. Do you have any quick tips?
CJProSound yeah i was thinkin the same thing about the automation. That was totally wrong and it had me confused, like can u make automation pre fader in p.t...
your so good
Anyone know which lav mic Dave uses when recording these?
KRK e8 t , better than e8 b ? i don't find any comparison on this
haha awesome automation! :)
Which frequency was the Jason Joshua memorial frequency? Was it the 2k or another one he did’t actually name before he started talking about the 6k shelf, I couldn’t tell
Just watched part 2, the Jason Joshua Memorial frequency is 5K. All due respect
😂😂😂😂😂 i died laughing at the arvix part.. im not surebif what it does...but whatever it does it does it well... 😂😂😂😂
SO whats the signal chain? Is it compressor first then eq??? I'm a noob
EQ before Compressing
Funny guy!
"If you've got a trillion dollar sound system-I might not be making a record for you" FTW!!! xD
You talk how I think bro!
Would be nice if he did someone known for vocals like Brian Mcknight, Boyz II Men, Take 6 in his tutorials
I don't know what it does but what it does it does really well XDD
Is there anywhere I could look to get songs to mix for practice online?
millions of songs online now...take your pick...
J Stolarski
he didnt ask if there are songs... he asked where he can find them and its a great question.
Didn't say if he was looking for aust vocals or what. Acapellas4U is a website that has a lot of vocals, samples and dj tools. Acapella Fella , search Soundcloud and he does old school seperations of the vocal from the songs.
You can start at www.mixcoach.com. Best
Thanks, I'll check them.
is that automation on the vocals of the volume?
It looks like waves rider. It's a nifty time saving tool.
its a plugin called vocal rider
Actually, what he said makes perfect sense. Because he did the automation, he doesn't have to use as much compression to achieve the same end result. Thus....the compression isn't doing as much (a.k.a. "working as hard").
Dave is like the Mr Rogers of engineering
What's "R-box"?
the standard
8:58 3db at 20k haha - anything above 15k I stopped hearing about age 11
when dave calls me a great engineer :´)
Vocal rider doesn't exactly look like that, it's a little more choppy. To me that looks like he manually adjusted the volume automation lane with the mouse.
which software is this ?
+newton rai pro tools
+newton rai look his screen top left lol
thanks haha
i dont know if its my speakers or something but the vocal sounds poorly recorded, maby i need new speakers
dave u're doin a great thing...we;re becomin all pros through ur videos...sm from u and sm from our self..
Damn Bonnie Tyler has not looked after her voice :(
Wow, lots of Melodyne kind of artefacts on the voice. Little to much for my taste, especially for that kind of song. But great tutorial anyway. Thanks!
EeeeeeeK!!!
On this what i hear,i think 2k is used a lot in Michael Jackson songs
If you're looking for an awesome mix engineer, chck out Raz Klinghoffer
His in LA though...
Isn't that the guy from tbbt?
The vocal sounds realy synthetic to me, I don't like that.
John Coltrane pitch correction, the vocalist probably actually sucked ass
The track has been melodyned which is what those artifacts you hear are
youve never heard of Bonnie Tyler? fairly legendary singer
Synthetic, melodyne ??? where do you live ?
Bonnie Tyler is da bomb . Madame Husky voice,
check the classic " It s a heartache
what matters is how it sounds in context of the entire mix
Great tips but that voice is painful to listen to lol.
