I love and hate how all the gamers talking about this are doing this in the least helpful way possible. Like, he could've just described goatse as "a graphic image of a grotesquely stretched anus" and called it a day, but he didn't even explain it when it was actually relevant in the video. But he sure was glad to go into detail about not going into detail with the messages. Like dude...get to the point!

I've heard that the actual lua script itself is mildly interesting, with a lot of unique 'f- you' variables, the guy put effort into this. Hope you do a vid in the future going through the lua code.

I had to Ctrl+F to find a comment mentioning it, thought I was going insane.
I was unfortunate enough to have the troll face playermodel installed when this happened. I remember seeing that "Interesting" imagery and trying to figure out why it was happening. I couldn't find anything on it at all and was genuinely upset for the rest of the day, but now all of these videos are coming out and giving me info on what happened so thanks
i do feel a little bad for inadvertently introducing so many people to goatse (via the tweet 4:30), but this whole thing does show how flawed the steam workshop is for file hosting

GMod is one of the undeniable, undying pillars of PC gaming. It’s inherently timeless, nearly 20 years old and still getting consistent updates, thousands of new community-made addons every day and more game modes than can be easily counted. It’s perfect in its own insane way.
Trouble in terrorist town and the Jail game mode are still awesome

Better to just vent in some other way; could be Steam now has to tighten down on its guidelines as well.
I am fortunate not to have these kind of addons. But the big problem is that there may be other addons out there that might be likely to suffer the same fate. Hope to god it won't happen because we need addons to expand our creativity.

Goatse has been around for so long it geninuely triggers nostalgia because the first times I saw it were when an old pokémon forum that 13 year old me posted on in the run up to pokémon diamond would get raided. I'm not sure how to feel about that.

I literally came home, hopped on Garrys Mod and had to spend the next few hours finding the cause buried under 700 addon files. Great way to spend the day.
Had 444 files, turns out it might’ve been a trollface NPC. But I had my first goatse, and I decided to re-install Garry’s Mod, deleting all my mods.

they wouldn't be capable of it... steam would instantly lose a LOT of money from destroying the workshop... DST, DS, ONI, Garry's mod, and many more depend on the workshop as a gameplay feature.

Just as a touch up to what you said, while the goatse screamer was indeed genuine by the creator, the other screamers were simple copy pastes by other mod authors in an attempt to gain attention while poorly pretending to of being hacked without understanding how the Steam Workshop servers work. The only way someone can hack your steam workshop item is by having full access to your steam account as well as the tools to upload to the GMod steam workshop. Idk about you, but no """hacker""" is going out of their way to do all of that and change some lua code to make some silly, less-bannable screamers (I say less bannable because obviously the mod authors want the attention, not to get banned)

If i recall correctly, Garry's Mod checks for your subscribed addons at the start of the game, if it finds anything that is not available anymore, it deletes the thing. The author of Glue Library got his steam account banned in like 6 hours after the whole thing happened. Meaning you can't even get the NSFL jumpscare unless you decided to download the """hacked"""" version through Steam Workshop download websites. If you still fear that you might be under attack, DON'T worry, the changed code was uploaded to pastebin and the only thing it does is show you the NSFL with a loud scream.
TO BE SURE, TYPE menu_cleanupgmas WHEN YOU START THE GAME, THEN LOAD IN A SINGLEPLAYER, AND TYPE lua_find fuck INTO THE CONSOLE. IF IT FINDS THE " FUCKYOU" FUNCTION, THEN CLOSE THE GAME AND NAVIGATE INTO THE GarrysMod/garrysmod/addons AND DELETE ALL THE ADDONS SUCH AS "Action Extension, Glue Library, View Extension, Ambient Occlusion, Trollface Playermodel". I am unsure of any other addons that might've been hacked.

Someone on Twitter compared the old mod with the new one and it had a different style of coding, it appears that the old mod was completely replaced by the new fuck you mod. It's speculated that the modder was phished/hacked and the hacker saw that he was the author of several popular mods which he exploited.

Good To Know ... THANK YOU !! Pretty sure I got few of those add ons subbed... Been getting my child comfortable with the keyboard and controls. As she wants to play PC, I use Gmod as a playground because the workshop mods ,Ragdolls can be like virtual toys. my little pony, Pokemon,etc. All together.
I was unfortunately using gmod at the time, cause I was setting up a server to play with my friends. The first thing I see is a image of everything you never want to see, and then ear rape and my console was filled with Gabe is a f-word. I had to disable all mods and figure out which of the 200 add-ons we where using it was. It turns out it was a Trollface model making it, after I had to restart the server many times to check which add-ons it was.
Uh oh... I have a trollface player model too, hope it isn't the one I have.

Gmod creators are some of the most unhinged people ive ever met but also some of the best people to hang out with
idk how to feel about this, as someone who entered the internet in mid 2010s (maybe before, but it was just flash games, so doesnt count) its intriguing that a piece of history is returning to light after so many years, specially because ive never heard of it (luckily) but at the same time im *horrified* to know such horror is lurking in the shadows waiting to strike, i might even NOT play gmod for a good year.
