Hey Fray my dad and I have been watching you for a little over 2 years now we are heading up north October 14th would you think that’s too late? Every time we come up sept 30 it’s too early just getting your opinion
I usually use sea salt and sugar with krill rub it in first than I add fire cure, I usually let it cure for 2 days but they say 24 hrs does the trick, once the curing done I’ll add borax o-fire, wrap it up in few pieces of paper towel for another day just toughen it, you don’t even have to freeze these stuff lasts for few months in the fridge.
@@OutsidersOutdoorCo yuppp, I live on the Canadian side of the Niagara river and we’ve been slamming tons of chinook in the north shore tribs of lake O
Great footage as always! Love the music in the background too. People need to realize it is about the full experience of being out there and not just hooking a bunch of fish. But hooking a bunch of fish helps the experience! Ha! I think I'm going to run more trailer hooks like you've been doing as we seem to miss plenty of bites and can't get hooked up as much as we'd like
Just used some eggs that I got out of a King this morning that I caught in South West WA. Bought some Boxofire this evening and just did my first cure! Thanks for the tips and love your videos.
Fly guy here just chiming in, I appreciate that you try to be proactive and steer people away from flossing/snagging.. I look forward to the trips up every season but it can be brutal at times dealing with flossers walking whole beats sweeping through every bucket regardless of whether someone is already fishing it or not.. Angler etiquette can make or break a fishery.. and while I prefer using flys, I respect the effort to steer folks away from unethical tactics. Now if only DNR would do the right thing and put an end to that garbage… 🤦🏻♂️ Cheers from Ohio and have a good season dude 🍻
dude you gotta come to ny to the salmon river one year. im in route to getting my guide license, should have it by next season, if you ever do come up get in contact with me and ill take you down the salmon river for a free trip.
How long will the cured skeins last in a refrigerator? If you need to store long term do you freeze? Any tips for storage either short term or long term?
I know buddies who will keep them in the fridge for weeks. If I'm not going to use them within 5 days, I freeze them. In ziplock backs if I plan to use them within a few weeks, or vacuum seal for long term storage. Hope this helps
@@FishFray thank you. Yeah I won't be going out until the first weekend in October. Was able to obtain some fresh scanes today by asking nicely at a fish cleaning station. Going to cure them now and store for later
Well I just bought pautzke borxofire orange and fire brine red. Only ones they had at bass pro. Going to give it a shot. Question have you ever froze your eggs before curing I cought a couple 2 weekends ago and froze the eggs since I didn't have the cure yet. If not I'll be up next week hopefully get some eggs to cure up and try
Great vid man! New to the whole float fishing/centerpin game. Been fishing for salmon and steelhead for a few years now on hardware. But i was wondering what lbs main line do you use for your centerpin? Thanks and great video! Always dope content 👌🏼
So I cured some skein last night and tried it your way with just borax o fire red. I checked them this morning and they look great actually but they are dark purple still. Not nice and red like yours. Did I add too much borax? Thanks!
Fray another excellent video my friend wish I could get out this fall but I will be putting in the hours at work. Goal is to paint my project car next summer.
That’s really a 2 ought hook? I mean I know I need something bigger for skein than your typical Great Lakes steelhead bead bag type 8-10 hook but are you sure lol

So this is how I do it, but I'd love to hear other methods ! If you're willing to share, let's hear your bait recipes !

I had firecure to with borax o fire. U saw the end result. The sulfite in it will trigger salmon bad, at least our great lakes fishery
Is funny how active was out the water that fish, but did not wanted to fight lol
Sea salt, sugar, fire cure, krill scent

Didn't realize curing skein was that simple, looks like the hardest part is actually getting the skein lol
Didn’t realized you follow fray too haha, can’t wait to see some niagara content this fall🤙🤙
It is the hardest part for sure
@@northernsteelheader3678 just a couple more weeks...can't wait!

👍👍Sweet Bobber downs Fray , i got to try this technique
I think if you could find space to try it out your way, it would work!

Right on! Hoping to sneak a few fly videos in this fall. Thanks !
Got my first salmon bobber down today but my hook bent out after a few headshakes, was an absolute unit. We need some rain!!
For sure, awesome!
I agree with you there. I'm trying the grand river tomorrow morning. I hope i don't have to give up and just try for anything that bites

I use 23lb blood run mainline
@@FishFray sweet man ive heard alot of guys around the rivers talking about bloodrun. Maybe ill give it a shot !

I use the same cure but the hot pink color. That borx O’ fire works wonders.
I use pink sometimes too
Do you ever use a single hook on the arctic spinner? 3/8 in treble restrictions by me
I have only used the stock hooks
I use the same cure! 🔥 nice fish brotha! Always love the vids!
Great footage and also great content
Fray another excellent video my friend wish I could get out this fall but I will be putting in the hours at work. Goal is to paint my project car next summer.
That's too bad, sounds like an awesome project though
@@FishFray i will send you a picture
You ever twitch jigs for these fish it works good on the chinook and coho in Washington.
We have regulations that won't allow us to use a jig in alot of our rivers
Our regs are tricky but I am open to trying it if possible when our coho are in
That’s really a 2 ought hook? I mean I know I need something bigger for skein than your typical Great Lakes steelhead bead bag type 8-10 hook but are you sure lol
I fish skein with a 2/0 hook ,the maximum size hook gap we can run here is 1/2" , and the 2/0 skeena hooks I use are right there
Does it go in the fridge right after?, or keep it at room temperature?
Fridge!
Probably felt the bite through the rod on that second one… looove that tight line
How do you get them gummy? Mines are wetter then I would like.
After curing you can air dry the chunks to get them more gummy, personally I prefer mine wetter
Great Video Brotha keep up the banger videos!
You too!
@@FishFray Thanks man!
Cool video. Thanks! Greetings from Linwood.
That's 1st salmon brought to hand was smoken. Lol
I’m from British Columbia and we get em on big 16-14 mm soft beads
I will be trying that this year!
You ever catch cohos on skein?
Rarely, I know it does work though
Where do u get ur bobber's I can't find them nowhere online or stores.. u should sell them.u would make alot of cash ...
They are available on blood run tackle's website
Do you use skain in the steelhead season. If so how?
We don't use skein for steelhead... I heard people on the west coast do that but not in the mid west. we switch to spawn sacs and beads!
Should checkout Hitman bait cure brotha. I used to fish pautzkes till i found them and had those eggs outfish pautzke 10:1🤙
interesting, never heard of them
SALMON SEASON BABY
