We call this locust in Belize. Don't know why they say it stinks! Just a different smell- smells much better than 'stinky toes!' We loved eating these when we were small!

There are two types a tiny one with two or three seeds is called stinking toe the larger one is called locusts . The tree is used in the manufacturing of furniture the fruit you eat the bark leaves and the shell of the fruit could be used for tea . It is said to have benefits in lowering blood sugar .

Of course you can pick it but i suppose it's a case of waiting for them to mature and thats when they drop off the tree by themselves. Locust is an insect too. I can't remember it being that stinky. To me It tastes like powdered milk.

There are several trees in Kingston & St Andrew. It's also in plastic bags for sale in some supermarkets, fresh fruits & vegetables shops and the market. This very afternoon (April 6, 2024) I told some folks I was going to do some reseach on the nutritional value of Tingkin Toe. Thank you for this video!
you are welcome my friend.
I remember this friut, ,,,haven't seen it over the years...
I think we only have 5 of those trees here on St.Thomas Virgin Islands 🇻🇮 We do pick them when they are solid brown and never had a problem. If the sound hollow when you tap them, they can eat when picked. Some Rastafarians make a drink from it also.
Here in Venezuela it is known as algarrobo .
we eat stinking toe alot when we were kids growing up , not knowing how nutritious it was,we also rub the seed on stone to get it hot then use it to burn each other
🤣🤣🤣
I love it. When I was growing up as I child I ate it. Probably one of the few who would do so. Went to Dominica and saw it there. I am aware of the nutritional value, saw it on PBS.
cool.
I wish that all of us with some land space grow at least a tree. There are other fruits that are going extinct that we need to grow for the next generations.Seriously.
We have this in dominca we call it.pomfree..
In a Guyana we call it stinking toe, not bad with cold carination milk as a snake with a touch of vanilla essence and some nutmeg.
I wish I was there, to enjoy it. That's one of my favorite fruits, as a child.😊

We dose call it Locust, this us the Fruits that John The Baptist eat with Wild Honey. Locust and Wild Honey
Unfortunately, this is not what the Bible was talking about when it speaks of locust.
It was talking about the mature version of a grasshopper 🦗, an insect which was and is still common in that part of the world.
This plant is not native to Africa or the middle east, which is where the Bible stories encompass.
As a matter of fact, the fruit is only called locust in Jamaica and nowhere else.
It's good for heart problems mixed with coconut water
