If you hold your finger over the camera lens on the left momentarily when you press the record button, it will work. There needs to be a balance of visible light in both sensors - both need to sense the same intensity of light, dark or through to black.

I found a way around it. I go to garage sales and record my finds. I first start recording - let it record for 2 seconds then I cover it with a headband

You can cover the light with a piece of electric tape hold something over the camera start the video, after one second you can remove your finger from the camera is and it will continue to record. This only works for video mode.
