Oh my gosh. i honestly didn't know Buckland had died. I thought he was still alive. His energy is so strong, his magic so inspiring I just assumed the gentleman was still kicking even now.

What a gem! I thoroughly enjoyed watching these two classy gentlemen. So grateful for their books back in the 80's when I began my journey in Wicca.

This video is a lot older than what people think. On the comments in part 1, some people said that it's from 1989. But actually this must be from 1986 because the "upcoming movie" that the announcer mentioned aired in early 1987.

"Quite frankly, we don't care if you believe us".. exactly. And the follow-up comment by Scott, "We don't ask Christians to prove they are Christians". Exactly.
This is before the internet in any real sense, this is the first time these people have really thought about it.
They are entering this conversation with preconceived notions and their own understanding of religion.. like needing a church or building to meet at.

I am facepalming so hard at the audience questions :P But at the same time I know that Wicca is not a very understood religion by christians. So I am trying NOT to judge, but this interview has really touched my soul. :)

All these people knew was what they'd seen in films, such as "Race with the Devil," Hammer Horror films, etc. They'd all been indoctrinated.

In my teens I was disappointed by Church's conservatism, behavior and problematic relations with other religions. At the same time, I had many doubts about what I was teached, so I started to consider myself an atheist and I kept this state of mind until approximately two and half years ago but I've always been curious and drawn to native African and American spirituality and Eastern religions since my early years learning mostly from documentaries but internet open the doors more so to dive easily into more info and in more ditailed form. I found Wicca on Wikipedia by accident. My first thought was "What? People believe in magic? It's rediculus" and I was thinking of weird guys but I can be proud that I never hate and disrespect and reject people with different beliefs, so I continued searching and before I realised it, I got interested in and in neopaganism in general, continuing at the same time to look into native spirituality.
It's good to read but is better if you can listen to the people involved in, and this interview of S.C. and R.B. was very helpful to me.I haven't manage yet to take S. Cunningham's book Guide for solitary practitioner one of the 2 or three only books available in Greek translation so I enjoyed the clear way they explained Wicca/witchcraft and put the basics without insult people who have ignorance. They were patient in order to answer all these questions made by the host, audience and tele viewers based on their Christian beliefs or just by curiosity.
    Sorry for the long text.

They react very skillfully to the fundamentalist christian caller, who disses every religion but hers.
Am a buddhist who read and enjoyed some of Scott Cunninghams books.
Hearing the callers opinions, this wonderfull story about religion came to my mind. It is written by Ajahn Brahm a buddhist monk.
The Art of Playing the Violin
An uneducated old man was visiting a city for the first time in his life. He had grown up in a remote mountain village, worked hard raising his children, and was now enjoying his first visit to his children’s modern homes.
One day, while being shown around the city, the old man heard a sound that stung his ears. He had never heard such an awful noise in his quiet mountain village and he insisted on finding its cause. Following the grating sound back to its source, he came to a room in back of a house where a small boy was practicing on a violin.
Screech! Scrape ! came the discordant notes from the groaning instrument.
When he was told by his son that that was called a “violin,” he decided he never wanted to hear such a horrible thing again.
The next day, in a different part of the city, the old man heard a sound that seemed to caress his aged ears. He had never heard such an enchanting melody in his mountain valley, so he demanded to find its cause. Following the delightful sound back to its source, he came to a room in the front of a house where an old lady, a maestro, was performing a sonata on a violin.
At once, the old man realized his mistake. The terrible sound that he had heard the previous day was not the fault of the violin, nor even the boy. It was just the young man had yet to learn his instrument well.
With a wisdom reserved for the simple folk, the old man thought it was the same with religion. When we come across a religious enthusiast causing such a strife with his beliefs, it is incorrect to blame the religion. It is just that the novice has yet to learn his religion well. When we come across a saint, a maestro of her religion, it is such a sweet encounter that it inspires us for many years, whatever their beliefs.
…But that was not the end of the story of the old man and the violin.
The third day, in a different part of the city, the old man heard another sound that surpassed in its beauty and purity even that of the maestro on her violin. What do you think the sound was ?
It was a sound more beautiful than the cascade of the mountain stream in spring, the autumn wind through forest groves, or the mountain birds singing after a heavy rain. It was even more beautiful than the silence in the mountain hollows on a still winter’s night. What was that sound the moved the old man’s heart more powerfully than anything before ?
It was a large orchestra playing a symphony.
The reason that it was, for the old man, the most beautiful sound in the world was, firstly, that every member of that orchestra was a maestro of their own instrument; secondly, that they had further learned how to play together in harmony.
“May it be the same with religion,” the old man thought. “let each one of us learn through the lessons of life the soft heart of our beliefs. Let us each be a maestro of the love within our religion. Then, having learned our religion well, let us go further and learn how to play, like members of an orchestra, with other religions in harmony together!”
That would be the most beautiful sound.
    Ajahn Brahm

Why? They've all been indoctrinated. This is all totally knew to them. All they know about witchcraft if what they've seen in films, and back then, there were no films that conveyed what witchcraft or Wicca actually was. It could have been you sitting there completely ignorant.

I would prefer to place my faith in someone who can give me DEFINITIVE answers. "If you ask 13 different witches. You'd get 13 different answers." That seems like confusion to me. I enjoy having one God, one way of doing things. I enjoy knowing that Christ is MY solid rock. And that me belonging to wicca would be like shifting sand... why is there soooo many answers for just one question...?

Not so, everyone has the ability to worship in their own right Christians have different denominations and so do witches!😊a Christian may baptize a baby in Lutheranism but in Baptist they want you to accept their god. So not 13 different answers just 13 different ways to climb a mountain. Just like any other religion.

    • @brightbite
      @brightbite 2 роки тому +2

They are seekers, my friend. We all want the same things. We are all in a human experience. Right now they feel they need those 13 different answers. Shifting sands... there was a time you were out in the desert, too. So try to be a glass of water, as there is so much endless heat! 😉

Do you not want to think for yourself? I can write a book and say that it is the only answer, but it doesn't make it true. How do you know that you have the right answer? Have you not seen the path of suffering and destruction left in the wake of such religions? Do yourself a favor and read into the history of the abrahamic religions. You will see that their history is written in blood and purposely designed to serve a few greedy people at the top. Read up on the Cathars, a sect of Christianity that was systematically eliminated by the church (aka murdered for worshiping the same god a little differently). Also, it's pretty common knowledge that only a handful of generations ago the church would murder anyone who was accused of being a witch. That's not a peaceful religion, that's called terrorism. And to answer your last question "why is there soooo many answers for just one question...?" Well, that's just the nature of things. If ten people stood in a circle around a tree and were asked to draw the tree you would get ten different pictures. Who is right? It is our responsibility to discern what is right for us, not a page in a dusty old book written to instill fear. The thing I personally like about wicca is that it is a truly personal religion. The answers you get are yours. I wish you all the blessings in the world and hope you find your answers. Blessed be.

It's not shifting sands, but rather individuals taking responsibility for their own spiritual growth. Each person has their own personal insights and experiences. This is NOT the type of belief system where you're encouraged to blindly follow an official dogma and never think or discover for yourself. If you'd rather subscribe to a prepackaged dogma then this is not the path for you.

Why do they refer to themselves as "witches" and not as warlocks? I thought male witches were called warlocks...?

    • @shannond5109
      @shannond5109 3 роки тому +14

Warlock actually means oath breaker or one who has betrayed the coven. Witch is a gender neutral word. Men and women can both be witches.
