I have some better press plates i will use in my glimmer machine. Interesting use of glimmer plates. Your results aren’t bad at all. I have a Platinum and my glimmering is awesome. Here’s a couple of suggestions, if I may….try using your embossing pad with your glimmer-inked plates. I think you will get a much deeper impression and more like the better press machine prints. They are very debossed. Spellbinders has said they have a special thicker version of archival ink. I find my brilliance metallics to be rather thin. Maybe thats why the ink didnt transfer well. Also, if you double hinged the paper and didn’t allow it to move, re-inked your plate for a 2nd impression, it might turn out better. Maybe try extra pressure when you foil also. Thank you for being forward thinking and brave and sharing this technique!
Thanks for all these tips. I don't have an embossing pad, but will need to get one! Do you use that for the glimmer plates instead of the glimmer platform? I feel like that would make total sense! (And could likely be used for dies too, I imagine)
@@ccreatesartcrafts yes, using the embossing pad will emboss any die, stencil, betterpress or glimmer plate using just the die cutting machine. Depending upon which side you place the embossing pad will determine if you emboss or deboss. Letterpress is debossing. Hope this makes sense.
FYI, I like clean die cut plates too. Now when I buy a pair of plates, I use a new one on the top and an older one on the bottom. That way I can always see what’s going on in the die sandwich. Then when the older one gets too bad to use, I rotate the top clear one to the bottom and take the new one out of the package to go on the top. Then keep another set on hand for the next time.
I got that big Thanks glimmer foil die free from Spellbinders. Thanks for sharing! Learned so much, but I won’t use Arches papers - so expensive! I’ll use my watercolor papers from Russia and China. If you watch JM’s old video on the Letterpress, she actually demonstrates this. You got fab results!
I will say that I've been playing with an additional cardstock shim while glimmering with my Sizzix and it's making a big difference! But I love the letterpress option.
Great demo I have a big shot and glimmer no problem. I just unhook it from the back when hot as I just have to rip it out, it's so tight, straighten glimmer plate before adding my foil and paper and rin through BS slowly once. I don't need to add extra shim but some people add one between green and clear plate. I think green plate goes first as it's heat resistant too.
The clear plate is chamfered too so that makes me think that goes on top as that's the edge that would hit the roller and the taper makes less of a blunt edge.
At last a use for my glimmer machine and plates . I have tried the foiling without any success of a clean foil print . I’m definitely going to give your idea a try . Thank you
Thank you for doing this video! I was planning to play with my glimmer plates in this way, too. You have provided valuable information that will save me time. I have experience (years ago) with letterpress. The inks I used were oil based so that they didn't bead up on the plates. I think Archival inks and the Betterpress Inks, which are formulated for their system, are probably the best option for this technique. Hopefully, they will soon be available in more colors. The Wendy Vecchi archival ink/Ranger line has some bright colors....
I have a Big Shot (mine is very old- black and pink) and at the time there was no Platinum Machine. Spellbinders had this large pink die cut machine (I have that also). I use my Big Shot for glimmering - I add maybe 3 paper shims and I have no trouble with my glimmering. Beautiful results!🥰
That's so helpful! I have been experimenting with shims, and it seems to be a fine balance between too much and not enough pressure, but really love all that shine, so I'll give it another whirl. Thank you!
It's another expense, @@ccreatesartcrafts but Spellbinders Universal Plate System comes with the platform, standard clear cutting plates, embossing mat, and a nice variety of adapter shims/plates to use with whatever you're rolling through your machine. Works with my Big Shot & Platinum machines, but not my Cuttlebug...
I have always thought they could combine the glimmer hot foil machine and the Betterpress machine. I wish they would add the hinged and marked plate to the Glimmer. Then you could use the Glimmer without heat but with all the positioning benefits of the Betterpress.
I have the Big Shot and Glimmer is beautiful. I've found the most important piece is the paper that you use. I don't need any special shim other than what comes with the Glimmer machine.
Tell me your secret?! I have found a cardstock shim helps in addition to the shim and top clear plate. But sometimes it seems I have too much or not enough pressure. Just somewhat finicky. Likely user error on my part.
I try to keep one big shot plate or die cutting plate clean.. I use it consistently as the top plate. When the bottom plate gets too scratched, I buy a new set of plates and use the first top plate as the new bottom plate, and use the new set of plates (one of them) as the top. And then cycle them on through. It’s really an investment of an extra set to do this… not that much money. So the top plate can be used to flatten things without any undue marks or scratches.
I think the investment is worth it. When I started cardmaking a few years ago, I didn’t realize I should always face the dies downward and cut into the same plate, so I have plates with cuts all over them. I have a new set in my basket!
There are directions on how to do so with the pamphlet that comes with the machine. I have more glimmer plates than BetterPress plates. So wish I could use them with the BetterPress!
But it’s more and more expensive gadgets every year, you can’t keep up with it, it’ll all change next year again with something else , however you’re a lovely crafter
Dear, I get speeding things up BUT when you show the results, plz dont. The result is moving around so fast and we can barely SEE the result before its gone again. MY eyes felt like marbles all spazzed out. As Long as one builds up their "sandwich" any base can be used. All these expensive machines have become ridiculous. Did you try pigment ink or did I miss that?
Great idea! I find the Glimmer system to be hit and miss as well. Thanks for your video.
This is exactly what I love about our creative community.

It's such a thing! Wanting to keep these supplies crystal clean. I need to just watch for a sale and buy a new pair!
I knew this coule be done. The original Glimmer machine explained how in the manual. But thx for the demo. It really helps
Just a great way to stretch those plates, as they are all so beautiful!
❤❤❤beautiful results! Great idea to use the glimmer machine in this way! Also liked the tip for flattening the watercolor paper! Thanks! ❤❤❤
Thank you! Of the limitation is the size of watercolor paper that can be flattened is relative to your machine, but it’s totally helpful for cards!

Ooh! I LOVE Jennifer McGuire! I'll look for this specific video! I will have to try the THANKS glimmer plate with a different ink.
Wow!!! I am so happy I watched your video! I can’t wait to try this technique with my glimmer plates. Thank you so much for sharing this with us❤!
Aw! This makes me so happy to hear!
Both cards are beautiful!! Thank You for experimenting for us!!
Glad you like them!
I use Bearly Art glue and have never had ripples of any kind. Glad to see additional options for creating better press using glimmer tools - thanks!
You are so welcome!
Thank you!!!! Finally something to do with glimmer. I'll try this. Thank you

Great tutorial! ❤ I can’t wait to try this. Thank you Courtney!
You are welcome, Sylvia
Thanks for sharing your expertise, Stacey!

Yes, I'll probably stock up on BetterPress inks since I have that system too. Paper and inks really seem to make a difference with this technique!

New subscriber! I love that! This exact thing is on my agenda to make a video about, you have a lot more hot foil plates than I do. Great job!
Let me know when you make the video! I’ll be excited to watch :)
8:49 “Boom!” That was my thought too. Looks very nice!
Thanks, Adam! It was rewarding for sure!
Thank you so much for sharing this. I will have to try it out.
Please do!
Love this! Thank you so much!!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Agree! The positioning benefits of BetterPress make the process much easier!
Pronounced "geeoteen" cutter. Great technique--thank you!
Hahaha! Oh, I know. I’m not sure why I was saying that. I thought about when I was editing 🤪 in one video I also say waterpaper color 😂

so glad it works so well for you!
I too discovered that inks make a difference
Which inks do you prefer?
I have e a big shot and have no problems with foiling with the glimmer machine foiling

Never thought about using the glimmer machine as a press g=at idea

Instead of Hero Arts or other inks, use Versafine Clair Ink Pads. Works beautifully
Have you tried using the hot foil dies with a regular big shot sandwich without the glimmer
No but I will!

Ah! Good feedback. I’ll try to slow down the results next time!
She said dye inks. You can slow video playback tapping the setting cog top right and choosing what playback speed you like
