Racism is definitely real in the medical field. I believe my stubbornness plays the bigger role in how I've been treated though. One time I though my white heart doctor was funny with me because I was black. I changed doctors and chose a black doctor assuming I would be treated different and listened to a bit more. But she handled me worse!!!!!Black doctors, white doctors and Indian doctors have behaved the exact same way with me. I need to shut up and comply with whatever pill they want to TRY on me. If I question or appear the slightest bit hesitant, they shut down on me like I'm a misbehaving child at school.
If a white woman goes to the doc and the doc says "I'm not sure what is happening to you but let's try a couple of weeks of prednisone and see how you feel in 2 weeks." If the white lady says "prednisone??!! I'm not comfortable taking steroids as an experiment to see if it works. Can you recommend a different approach that focuses more on the root cause? Perhaps ask me questions about my diet and if i drink acidic water and sodas?"
Before she even finishes that statement, the doctor has already checked out and can't wait to leave the room. I'm sure race plays a role, but I think an Ill person's willingness to comply or not is the bigger determining factor In how an Ill person gets treated. Not all the time, but in my exp. Most of the time.
    Great content!!!!
