Today we took a water taxi to some of Simi's best beaches. I tried to practice my greek by asking about the taxi times and cost and a cheeky goat tried to snatch my spanakopita!
Watching your earlier videos and now these, you've come a long way bud, very cool to watch your journey, my other half had been learning Greek on and off the past few years and I know from her experience how hard it can be to get to that conversational level so very well done!
Hey Neoklis, Thanks for watching the videos and the comment. Yes I imagine after my trip I might not have quite as much time, or the same motivation, to practice but I’ll keep trying for the next time. Do you and your wife live in Greece?
@@ΜαθαίνωΕλληνικά We live in London, both grew up here but my family are greek cypriot so we visit Cyprus as often as we can. We haven't seen too much of Greece but plan another trip sometime. It definitely helps having trips planned to motivate with practice, I consider myself bilingual but I definitely find I get rusty if I don't keep up the practice.
@@ΜαθαίνωΕλληνικά Yea it's definitely a dialect but people so learn the same modern Greek at school in cyprus as they do in Greece. Though there are definitely many similarly different dialects in many villages and islands in Greece. I tend to find depending on where someone is from In Greece it can range anywhere from thinking I'm a native to not understanding a word I'm saying. 😂
Hello buddy! Please, let me know this........ How local people see you speaking Greek! I mean...... Are they impressive or - "oh well, i don't really care of him, speaking Greek"? : )
Hey Billy, People are really encouraging. They often say «μπράβο» and are positive when I tell them «μαθαίνω Ελληνικά». A lot of people then say «τα ελληνικά είναι μια πολύ δύσκολη γλώσσα». Which I suppose it kind of is but because I am enjoying the challenge of learning it I don’t see it as “difficult” myself.

@@Neoklis128 nice. My wife is similar in that her family background is Greek. I believe that Cypriot Greek is slightly different too?

Great effort ! Maybe stay in Greece for a year and you’ll be talking like a native ?
Pablo I'm not going to lie, it was discussed at dinner tonight.
