I don't understand the critics blasting this version. I love them both. The idea is to take yourself out of this lunatic world we created and imagine what it should be...both films do that for me!
I love this movie, the way Richard Attenborough puts Santa Claus in it, its definitly ONE OF THE BEST Santa Claus movies ever made. he was exactly the right person to act for Santa Claus. Sadly he is no mor, R.I.P Mr. Attenborough
+EclipseFreak the problem it had whne it was releas was it was up against santa claus with tim alleen. personally i prefer this one the santa clause to me is dullsville. never really cared for it.
I think that's it for most people - we always like the version we've seen first. I saw the original last year but this is MY version, it's the one that reminds me of childhood Christmas. The original version will never have the same memories attached to it as this one does.
A wonderful colour update to the original. Sir Richard Attenborough, was a wonderful actor & director, he was a perfect choice for this part. His exchanges with the children & the little dutch girl in particular, exuded the heartfelt feelings, you want such a film to put across. I am delighted, that whatever else happens, he will be remembered for this role, he deserves it. R.I.P. Sir Richard, your many films, have & will continue to delight millions. :) If you do not mind, I will add to my page.
Kris' speech to Ms. Walker is a wonderful expression of the NEED to believe in something, anything greater and beyond yourself and the mundane routine of the world. I love the original version of the film, and I love this version. Both are wonderful expressions of the simple joy of what a human CAN be.
I love this movie. It's a true Christmas classic no matter which version you watch. Of course Dylan McDermott makes this one especially nice to watch. :)
During the scene where Santa is signing with the little deaf girl,if your eyes don't swell up with tears at that moment, then you must have a heart of stone.
I know i'm a minority when I say this, but I actually prefer this movie to the original. To me, I felt for this to feel a lot more magical and have so much more charm. But that's just my taste.
HO OO HHHOOOOHHHHH :D
nothing and I mean NOTHING can top this. this is the bets portrayel of santa I have EVER seen. absolutely amazing. I especially loved how his work shop was located in a dream land rather than the physical world. this is also much better than the older version, because susie and santa have a lot more of a spark to them
We need more movies like this, nowadays we only get cheesy comedies ( not that i don't think they're entertaining but still... ) i hope they make more.
You know what? Disney+ has the original 1947 version of the movie with Maureen O'Hara, but not the 1994 John Hughes remake with Richard Attenborough, Elizabeth Perkins and Mara Wilson. If you ask me, we should ask the guys at Disney+ to add the 1994 version too. What do you say? Unless you are satisfied with just the 1947 classic?
As a kid I never really understood the plot and literally just thought this was about people harassing Santa 😂 I was lucky enough to be one of the stubborn kids who thought grown ups and kids who didn’t believe in Santa and magic and shit were dumb and wrong 😆
why was Santa arrested??? I didn't much understand the film because I was a little sleepy...Could anybody please explain why Kris Kringle got arrested there?? What did he do that was so wrong??
the original is a classic but this is a really good remake that still gives a good message and very good performancess and i loved richard attenborough as santa.
Ive only seen the old one ( the black and white one) and we are playing the theme from this in orchestra...can someone reassure me this "new one" (technically 17 years old XD) is the same? We want to watch it in orchestra but i don't know if i could handle a remake :'(
I just Love this movie. For making the jurisdiction believe in something that can't be seen. It is a pretty impossible task whereby law only demands concrete evidence. A NEW perspective but its an old movie.
Sheesh, what kind of parent tells their small child that Santa isn't real? I mean, sure, the little ones eventually realize that he's a only a symbol of the holidays. But to tell the cold hard truth so early?
whats the correct quote is it "faith is believing when common sense tells you not to" or is it "faith is believing in something when common sense tells you not to" ???
uuh I'm kinda turned off by Mara Wilson's acting but the Santa Claus is really awesome and the scene with the mute girl made me awwww so I guess I'll have to watch it
20TH CENTURY FOX presents FROM JOHN HUGHES and THE DIRECTOR OF ENCINO MAN ACADEMY AWARD WINNER RICHARD ATTENBOROUGH ELIZABETH PERKINS DYLAN MCDERMOTT and MRS DOUBTFIRE'S MARA WILSON (MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET) NOVEMBER 18TH only in theaters DIRECTED BY LES MAYFIELD

1:34 I still can't get over this scene, it's so beautifly done the scene from the original '47 version is awesome, this one was changed in a really smart way, I love it
1:37-1;49...I worked with a sign language interpreter who was also fluent in Spanish!...every year he grew a real beard- had the "belly"really his-looked better than some of these movie Santas...he's learned some basics of 3 other languages, I can't remember those now- but Macys pays him from Nov to Dec(back in 1993/&1992, 10k for 2 months work!
I'm starting to wonder what it would be like if Sir Richard Attenborough portrayed Dumbledore in the *Harry Potter* films. Or did he seem too jovial for it?
I miss Richard Attenborough, The man was such a kind soul...
RIP Sir Richard Attenborough
The BEST, BEST, BEST Christmas movie EVER!!!!!!!
I think this was by far the best version of "Miracle on 34th street". Richard Attenborough was an excellent Santa.
Agreed! They handled the court scene much better in this version.
One of my favourite childhood movies RIP Richard Attenborough
I don't understand the critics blasting this version. I love them both. The idea is to take yourself out of this lunatic world we created and imagine what it should be...both films do that for me!

"The Truth that bought a tear" - R.I.P. Sir Richard Attenborough.
My favourite film of all time. I always cry. Watch it every Christmas and maybe a few other times during the year... A classic.
My wish was to get this movie for Christmas and it came true! I'm so happy!!

the deaf girl is the cutest thing i've ever seen!

From the Owner of Jurassic Park to Santa Claus. Richard will always be missed. He's up with my Father now. Resting in Peace. God bless him.

The deaf girl part makes me cry. It is beautiful.
RIP Sir Richard Attenborough - gone but never forgotten!

Has anybody else noticed that the background tune starting at 0:25 is the same soundtrack of "The Ice Dance" from Edward Scissorhands?
I remember this on my Mrs Doubtfire VHS as it was before that Alton Towers promo.
RIP Richard Attenborough (John Hammond in Jurassic Park and Santa in that film).
I love the original, but I love this one too. Mostly because of the different endings. I love how he proves in this one that he's really Santa Claus.
Macys = fave store. go here all the time, plus every day on my break LOL.
I have never seen this film and really want to!
Richard Attenbourough makes a fantastic Santa!

As a kid I never really understood the plot and literally just thought this was about people harassing Santa 😂 I was lucky enough to be one of the stubborn kids who thought grown ups and kids who didn’t believe in Santa and magic and shit were dumb and wrong 😆
I have to say that between this one and the older one, I like this one better.
The 1st one was great, but this one of the few Re-makes I liked better.

From Japan
What is the title of song in this movie, where boy/girl choir sings "lululu"?
I just Love this movie. For making the jurisdiction believe in something that can't be seen. It is a pretty impossible task whereby law only demands concrete evidence. A NEW perspective but its an old movie.
Sheesh, what kind of parent tells their small child that Santa isn't real? I mean, sure, the little ones eventually realize that he's a only a symbol of the holidays. But to tell the cold hard truth so early?

John Hammond doesn't really look like Santa Claus. He does a little.
1:34 I still can't get over this scene, it's so beautifly done
the scene from the original '47 version is awesome, this one was changed in a really smart way, I love it
1:37-1;49...I worked with a sign language interpreter who was also fluent in Spanish!...every year he grew a real beard- had the "belly"really his-looked better than some of these movie Santas...he's learned some basics of 3 other languages, I can't remember those now- but Macys pays him from Nov to Dec(back in 1993/&1992, 10k for 2 months work!

Or if they just have a different opinion to you. We don't all share the same opinion, you know.
I'm starting to wonder what it would be like if Sir Richard Attenborough portrayed Dumbledore in the *Harry Potter* films. Or did he seem too jovial for it?
Great Movie
