This is a treatment method Ive been interested in knowing more about before adding it as potential in my treatment rotation. I've seen a few videos on it before, but enjoyed your demonstration and information on it, thank you very much. More information is a good thing in my book. :-) Ty for sharing your time, Blessed Days...
We really like apiguard! It’s not perfect and you have to be careful, but it can be done if caution is observed. We will be making a follow up video tomorrow showing how the colonies are responding to the apiguard. Thanks for tuning in.
We like Apiguard pretty good. The full dose is better if you can do it with the temperature. Unfortunately we never cool down enough to use the full dose in our area until later in the fall.
@@thesidelinebeekeeper-craig6924 yeah im fortunate to be in the mountains of WV. I expanded from 7 to the 50 colonies like I wanted, but did have some splits that didn't take so I'm sitting on 46 right now. I did Apivar strips in March/April and haven't done a mite wash yet. I figured with as much splitting as I did I'm sure the mites got knocked way back. I plan to so b2b rounds of the apigaurd August 1-14th and then I will do a mite wash 1st Sept and if needed maybe do a 3rd round of apigaurd
@@noahG82 great job on increasing your numbers. Yes splitting a lot helps for sure, just keep an eye out because sometimes in my experience brood breaks aren’t enough. Sounds like you are on top of things with your operation. I wish we had the lower temps.
Craig on using this treatment in a 3 dose treatments of 25 ml . How many hives will that bucket do ?? What size is that bucket ?? . About how much is that size bucket ??. With this heat you all be careful. I have never tried this treatment I have been using OA but I need to try other kinds . On your feeding you talked about on the sugar bricks it looks like they are the same size I make . I put one in one of my hives last week the next day I went back around to put syrup on my hives and they had already eat all that brick . It is not a monster hive but a good hive . I would they were hungry. LOL . THANKS for all your help . Stay cool
Hey Kathy! The cost of the tub is around $100.00 it will treat 60 colonies at the 50 ml dose so in theory 120 25 ml doses. We will sometimes use as many as 4 25ml treatments. If After 4 they still have a high mite load we switch to a different treatment. I did not mention in the video, but apiguard normally causes the queen to stop laying for a few weeks. But that is normal. When the treatment is over she starts back in force. The sugar bricks work great. We are fixing to be putting liquid feed on all colonies to keep the queen stimulated during the dearth. Thanks for watching.
Very good advice given here. Do you wait until after the 3rd application to check for mites? Do you have sticky boards on any hives to check mite drop (not that it is an accurate test of anything) ? Thanks for your time and cool off once in awhile.
Apiguard should not be used when Honey Supers or your Honey Boxes are on. Apiguard is a very strong Thymol based treatment and it will tait your Honey! Making it not fit for human consumption. Better to arrange your Brood Box so it's all Brood (maybe temporarily remove side Honey frames and add them to your freezer.) And add some empty Comb for the Bees to build up Stores into. Apiguard Treatment Tip: Add a empty Super Box, with a Bucket Feeder internally. Bees can feed during the process and move that Thymol about the growing Brood Nest ! Especially for Beeks who have long Winters ! In the time of Autumn build up of Winter Bees is very important that they are Varroa Mite free ! These Bees need to live for say x5 months here in Scotland. 🏴 Our Spring isn't really on until late March, early April : Bee wise. 👌 And once you have finished that Apiguard Treatment, you can add those Honey Frames back to the Colony. However, Bob Binnie, thinks Bees do better on pure Sucrose (White Sugar) to keep Bees in good gut health... Think of no pooping for x5 months.... 🤭 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Happy Beekeeping 2022. 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Those taken partial frames of Honey are great to build up Nucs ! So nothing lost, doing this... A bonus in Spring. Feed, Breed, Bees. . . 😎
Sorry for the delayed response. I have been away out of the country for some time. You are correct with apiguard. It should not be used with honey supers on the colony. If we are using apiguard it is for brood boxes only. We sometimes run our hives as a deep and medium.
Looking Good brother! God Bless you and your Bees!!!
Thanks Earl! Y’all too
Nice work. Mites are such a pain and expense to treat but it’s necessary. Stay cool and thanks for sharing!
You are absolutely right. Thanks for watching.
I know this video has a little age on it BUT it is a good reminder video because this time is coming soon it is just around the corner. Thanks
Appreciate the video. Lots of good information. Be careful in the heat and take care.
Thanks for watching! The heat has been brutal.
Hi! Dobra robota!👍

Just got some of this in waiting til August. Temps should be in Low-Mid 80s where I can do a full dose

I like your video's where do you purchase the aluminum foil inner cover.
We get it at Lowes or Home Depot. It’s sold as reflectix. Thanks for watching.

Same plan here, but not with apiguard. I have a mystery treatment. Just too hot too long here. Curious to see how it does.
Hopefully it works well! I’m pushing it with the temps here, but it usually works well if you are careful.
We are rolling treatment free except when a customer asks for a treatment on their nucs and then we use Apivar.
I wish we could get by with treatment free. Apivar works good with the smaller colonies. Thanks for watching Rooster
I just “wannabe” like you lol 😂

Thank you! I wait until the third round is complete. Then we check with an alcohol wash. It was definitely hot today. Thanks for watching.
Can use that after using acid treatment?
Are you referring to Oxalic Acid? Or Formic Acid? No issues using it after Oxalic Acid, if following Formic Acid I would definitely wait a few weeks.
