Tell them brother! Unfortunately many willl only believe you 5 years into their diaspora journey. It takes a while to see the fake ness for what it really is . If you have a livelihood at home, just stay here and raise your family here

I think you missed the elephant in the room bro, alot of people just move because of economic issues, jobs in Kenya don't pay as much as the Western countries, even though most don't like to move but it's a sacrifice that we are willing to take, so one can raise capital faster than working in Kenya, my two cents..

You are right. If he had stayed in Kenya he probably would not have raised the funds to build his beautifil house. My take is let others go and try, some actually enjoy it in the US/Europe. Not all have the same experience.

I am Ugandan living in Australia
Everything you have said makes sense!
But no one will listen to you unless they test the fire.
I have met VERY young Kenyan students here in Melbourne who have come over through student visa…most of them were motivated to come over during Covid time when policies allowed students to study and work as many hours as they wanted! They managed very well, until we got out of Covid and policies changed: students are now only allowed to work 48 hours a fortnight ( according to a few Kenyan students I have worked with).
This has now impacted them negatively and causing many young students to experience mental health challenges, lack of funds to pay tuition, rent, insurance, meals, fuel, public transport, medical expenses etc!
Many of these students are VERY young! No friends, no family support etc
Not forgetting that, before they came over, they mentioned ( some of them) already got loans in Kenya from family and friends, and are required to pay back every week or month!
And mind you, the only available jobs for students are in factories and aged care facilities! The stress level of working in such places while studying and trying to pay endless bills is enormous!
If you want, check in with a few of them out here if you have friends here, ask them how they really are managing, if they are honest they will tell you the truth.
Of course not all of them are facing this challenges, others may have come to study with full financial support from their families back in Kenya!
My Testimony is based on the students I have worked with, met at different events.
So I am no putting every Kenyan student under the bus!
Kindly read reviews before you come out here, it won’t hurt to have some knowledge of what to expect.
I will say what my brother has said: if you are not strong hearted, not hard working, not flexible, like your privacy and can’t share space, can’t drive, can’t speak proper English, short tempered, indulging in alcohol ( you won’t drive, as you may lose your licence ASAP), if you can’t take orders from no one, if you can’t work all jobs ( flexibility), if your health is not good, …etc you can come but you will struggle with life big time!
I am saying all this in good faith!
      God bless!

I live in Australia and work in the health sector
Staying out here at retirement age is not a good idea if you don’t have family! It can be lonely, depressing with lots of hospital visits due to age related illnesses.
It works both ways, you just need a plan: you wanna retire out here? Who is your support system?
You wanna go back home: what will you be doing to keep active? Have health insurance plan before you go back.
I am not an expert, just sharing my thoughts.

Love it! I'm in the UK and I agree 1000 percent. The diaspora isn't as it used to be..racism, high cost of living have made it so miserable even natives are seeking opportunities elsewhere. I know kenyans who are planning their exit plan 5years after living in Europe.

But some of you are posting these clips from the comfort and serenity of your half-acre mansions, with birds chirping, clean, cool breeze, green manicured lawns, isn't it kind of ironic? Would you say you would be in a similar situation, had you stayed in Kenya?
That said, you do raise some valid points regarding the challenges of immigration, and probably nothing illustrates that better than the stark differences in the lives of diaspora returnees (and those still in the diaspora). I'd say you are probably in the 99% percentile for diaspora returnees in terms of favorable outcomes.
The challenge many Kenyans are facing today stem from the terrible state of the economy - today, and in the years to come - which puts them in an unenviable situation of having to choose between the devil and the deep blue sea. When one looks at the economy forecast (loan repayments increasing, more borrowing, default looming, etc.), can anyone really blame someone who chooses to take the risk out there, rather than stay home and suffer the painful and long lasting consequences of bad governance?
    I don't know
