Can't believe that I actually watched the whole 22 minutes of this video and was so engrossed in all the details presented. Thank you for such insightful content. Truly appreciate this fact-based, non-biased exposé on one of the leading ladies of Pop culture. Lalisa is truly an Icon.
Nicely put together - Thai music won't go anywhere though because its not a nice sounding language when sung. It takes a tremendously good vocalist to sing in Thai acceptably. Korean on the other hand has tonal influence from Russia (which it borders) so it sounds more like a European language. Its a huge benefit that Korea has in the international pop world over other Asian countries like Japan.
I am Korean and her being not Korean doesn't bother me at all. In fact, she has a very unique appearance and attitude that no Korean can possess even with expensive plastic surgeries. She is the shining example of what we Koreans normally lack. She really compliments Kpop in a significant and positive way, making Kpop more attractive and relevant globally. Of course, we have racist morons who attacked Lisa, but they are just a bunch of losers who have nothing to show except for their Korean ethnicity. Any normal Korean person would have no time or reason to think about Lisa's ethnicity.

I don’t know she is important toward kpop or not but all I know is she brought a huge No kpop fan to kpop industry. Just like mine and people around me get to know kpop because of Lisa. I'm Korean but I had never cared about K-pop before I first saw Lisa and Blackpink. First I just assumed she was Korean but she didn't look Korean. Then I started to find out more and more about her and got hooked all because of Lisa.

The way Koreans and Kpop fans are excluding her name in Kpop industry just because she is not korean, which is very unfair. I just wanted to add that Lisa's Lalisa recieved just one music show win and while that is insignificant compared to the other members, she is the first non ethnically Korean kpop idol to ever receive a music show win. This alone shows one of the very many obstacles non Korean kpop idols have to face and how she surpassed that.

Loved the way you presented this video! Appreciate all the research you did giving us insight into Thai culture in the beginning really brought everything together later on. I can't imagine the pressure she must face on a daily basis being not only a brand ambassador, but also a cultural ambassador for 2 countries in this social media climate where one wrong move can get you cancelled. It is inspiring to see all the good fortune she is getting now after having to overcome so much adversity during her career (I remember a time when people even questioned her place in the group since she only got a DANCE solo during their previous tour) and still staying humble and grounded. Safe to say, she is now on equal footing with the other members. I only hope she has a good support group around her to prevent another scam incident. She deserves all the rewards and praise she has worked so hard for.

I was never interested in kpop, then during quarantine I watched Netflix's Light Up The Sky, saw Lisa within the first few minutes talking about "injeolmi", and then Rose teased her saying "says the Thai girl in the car". I was hooked ever since! she really does have an unmatched charm and aura about her. also the fact that she's an "underdog" being a minority in a homogenous country, makes people around the world easily relate and want to support her
IMO Lisa is a very important part of Kpop in general. The amount of fans she has attracted and kept engaged in kpop is insane. She has huge contributions towards Kpop.

In the first part, I was confused like, is this just one of those click bait again? using her name for cultural promo or something? But towards the end I understood the importance of all those information at the beginning towards (and most especially) the end... that's a smooth transition there! I loved how you dissected the symbolisms on her album and music video (like the use of gold and the costumes, it's inspiration and meaning etc.) But I must say, the best part, for me, was her success' impact on representation and opening of platforms for minorities in a group - to be heard, and to be given equal opportunity without bias for ethnicity or whatsoever. Addition to MONEY achievements, this song help Lisa to be the only kpop female rapper who debuted no. 1 in BILLBOARD RAP DIGITAL SONG SALES CHART and the third kpop idols to achieve this feat alongside YG senior PSY and Suga. Her album sales not moving despite us continuing to purchase the album this year is really concerning. Albums sold that are not recorded will not be credited to Lisa, the money might go somewhere . Hope YG will listen to our call.
The album sales problem is basically all about the Gaon statistics not being available. But the Hanteo statistics have been available and they show that Lalisa broke records as the best selling Kpop solo artist. They also show that she's the highest seller among YG artists. Hanteo actually shows the number of albums actually purchased by consumers. Gaon tracks the number of albums ordered by retailers and distributors, so Gaon is almost always 2 or 3 times more than the Hanteo number. From that, I think it's easy to know that Lalisa totally killed it on the Gaon side too. Unfortunately, though, there will never be confirmation of that because it appears that YG didn't register the Lalisa album with Gaon at the beginning, so Gaon didn't track the sales. (YG apparently got around to registering with Gaon a few months ago, but no statistics are shown for the 9 months or so before that.) Generally, I think that the Hanteo number is more important to know how successful an album is. But the Gaon number is used for awards shows in Korea when counting the points for physical album sales . It seems like YG just decided they really weren't going to promote Lalisa inside Korea much, so they didn't bother keeping track or dealing with Gaon, which is obviously weird because Lisa is literally the ONLY YG artist who doesn't have Gaon statistics. (Just an additional historical note: All of the other YG albums preceding Lalisa's release had the benefit of large sales in China from fan clubs in China. But just a week or so before Lalisa was released, that country's government imposed restrictions on fan clubs that prevented them from buying albums. So Lalisa's record-breaking albums sales are even more impressive when you realize that one of the really important markets was virtually closed against her album.)
In my eyes she is genius. Koreans thinks that you need to be Korean order to represent K-pop but it is actually the K-pop genre right now because of her I'm listening to K-pop and Thai as well. Honestly, if Lisa didnt debut in Blackpink, I wouldn't have been interested in Kpop at all. In fact, before Blackpink debuted I perceived Kpop and Kpop fans as cringe and weird. Yeah I know that was very rude of me but now I understand why Kpop fans are the way they are. It's a special relationship between the idol and the attachment of the fans that outsiders wont be able to understand. For me though I am obsessed with Lisa mainly because of her work ethics and highly professional and excellent skills and talent as an artist. She really outshines the rest of the Kpop industry and this is not even from a perspective of a fan anymore, it is the real deal and the fact that many Kpop stans hate. There's never been any Kpop idol whose impact came close to Lisa's. Of course when you compare her alone to BTS, then BTS outshines Lisa, but when you talk about the individuality of all Kpop idols outside their groups, Lisa is just the main character bro. Her skills, stage presence, the way she presents herself and even her aura doesn't scream Kpop at all. She's ain't the best rapper but she got the best cadence in Kpop that no one else has. She isn't the best in vocals either but her vocals are good enough and she can sing in ballad beautifully, she can also switch characters which is in fact not easy at all unless you have the right confidence and skills. For dancing well we can argue with that but millions more people around the world believes that she is the best dancer in Kpop and that's because she brings the versatility of vibes whenever she dances and her body proportion, attitude, insane facial expression skills, and her skills in matching with the camera is insane! She's also a perfectionist and has the best body movement flow which is why she doesn't exaggerate, unlike other Kpop idols. If she switched to Hollywood it wouldn't be a problem since her idol image alone screams very global. I also think most fans of Lisa don't stan her for her beauty and character because let's be honest, her face and character doesn't even match the typical Kpop vibe. Even just by looking at her media stats and reviewing all content she's in on social media and putting aside the bias, you can easily understand why she's very much loved across the globe.
I am from India, and I speak one of the Dravidian languages called Telugu. In my mother tongue, 'SUVARNABHUMI' literally means 'Land of gold'. Wow, i never knew the old name of Thailand is literally Suvarnabhumi. Good to know something new :)

Loved the way you presented this video! Appreciate all the research you did giving us insight into Thai culture in the beginning really brought everything together later on. I can't imagine the pressure she must face on a daily basis being not only a brand ambassador, but also a cultural ambassador for 2 countries in this social media climate where one wrong move can get you cancelled. It is inspiring to see all the good fortune she is getting now after having to overcome so much adversity during her career (I remember a time when people even questioned her place in the group since she only got a DANCE solo during their previous tour) and still staying humble and grounded. I was never interested in kpop, then during quarantine I watched Netflix's Light Up The Sky, saw Lisa within the first few minutes talking about "injeolmi", and then Rose teased her saying "says the Thai girl in the car". I was hooked ever since! she really does have an unmatched charm and aura about her. also the fact that she's an "underdog" being a minority in a homogenous country, makes people around the world easily relate and want to support her

In the first part, I was confused like, is this just one of those click bait again? using her name for cultural promo or something? But towards the end I understood the importance of all those information at the beginning towards (and most especially) the end... that's a smooth transition there! I loved how you dissected the symbolisms on her album and music video (like the use of gold and the costumes, it's inspiration and meaning etc.)
But I must say, the best part, for me, was her success' impact on representation and opening of platforms for minorities in a group - to be heard, and to be given equal opportunity without bias for ethnicity or whatsoever. It's just simply wonderful, cause it's not been discussed enough. Lisa's a very nice epitome of hardwork, endurance and perseverance on chasing one's dream for me. Her album sales not moving despite us continuing to purchase the album this year is really concerning. Albums sold that are not recorded will not be credited to Lisa, the money might go somewhere . The album sales problem is basically all about the Gaon statistics not being available. But the Hanteo statistics have been available and they show that Lalisa broke records as the best selling Kpop solo artist. They also show that she's the highest seller among YG artists. Hanteo actually shows the number of albums actually purchased by consumers. Gaon tracks the number of albums ordered by retailers and distributors, so Gaon is almost always 2 or 3 times more than the Hanteo number. From that, I think it's easy to know that Lalisa totally killed it on the Gaon side too. Unfortunately, though, there will never be confirmation of that because it appears that YG didn't register the Lalisa album with Gaon at the beginning, so Gaon didn't track the sales. (YG apparently got around to registering with Gaon a few months ago, but no statistics are shown for the 9 months or so before that.)
Generally, I think that the Hanteo number is more important to know how successful an album is. But the Gaon number is used for awards shows in Korea when counting the points for physical album sales . It seems like YG just decided they really weren't going to promote Lalisa inside Korea much, so they didn't bother keeping track or dealing with Gaon, which is obviously weird because Lisa is literally the ONLY YG artist who doesn't have Gaon statistics.
(Just an additional historical note: All of the other YG albums preceding Lalisa's release had the benefit of large sales in China from fan clubs in China. But just a week or so before Lalisa was released, that country's government imposed restrictions on fan clubs that prevented them from buying albums. So Lalisa's record-breaking albums sales are even more impressive when you realize that one of the really important markets was virtually closed against her album.)
In my eyes she is genius. Koreans thinks that you need to be Korean order to represent K-pop but it is actually the K-pop genre right now because of her I'm listening to K-pop and Thai as well. She is a great roll model for young and old. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on Lisa, now I understand Lalisa.

Honestly, if Lisa didnt debut in Blackpink, I wouldn't have been interested in Kpop at all. In fact, before Blackpink debuted I perceived Kpop and Kpop fans as cringe and weird. Yeah I know that was very rude of me but now I understand why Kpop fans are the way they are. It's a special relationship between the idol and the attachment of the fans that outsiders wont be able to understand. For me though I am obsessed with Lisa mainly because of her work ethics and highly professional and excellent skills and talent as an artist. She really outshines the rest of the Kpop industry and this is not even from a perspective of a fan anymore, it is the real deal and the fact that many Kpop stans hate. There's never been any Kpop idol whose impact came close to Lisa's. Of course when you compare her alone to BTS, then BTS outshines Lisa, but when you talk about the individuality of all Kpop idols outside their groups, Lisa is just the main character bro. Her skills, stage presence, the way she presents herself and even her aura doesn't scream Kpop at all. She's ain't the best rapper but she got the best cadence in Kpop that no one else has. She isn't the best in vocals either but her vocals are good enough and she can sing in ballad beautifully, she can also switch characters which is in fact not easy at all unless you have the right confidence and skills. For dancing well we can argue with that but millions more people around the world believes that she is the best dancer in Kpop and that's because she brings the versatility of vibes whenever she dances and her body proportion, attitude, insane facial expression skills, and her skills in matching with the camera is insane! She's also a perfectionist and has the best body movement flow which is why she doesn't exaggerate, unlike other Kpop idols. If she switched to Hollywood it wouldn't be a problem since her idol image alone screams very global. I also think most fans of Lisa don't stan her for her beauty and character because let's be honest, her face and character doesn't even match the typical Kpop vibe. Even just by looking at her media stats and reviewing all content she's in on social media and putting aside the bias, you can easily understand why she's very much loved across the globe.
