there is a led problem
check the leds as this will shut the TV down when it has detected a bad led,I have 4 tvs that I have saved from land fill and 2 that I have failed trying to get the screen out 😂
Should build an under desk extension like a draw or the oldschool keyboard tray lol with some extendable legs under that clip up when not using would give you twice as much space if needed just migh have to stand up if no room for chair etc lol
@@pinky6863 no one said anything about it specifically for the tv lol just implied extra space if needed lol
samsung tvs are a nightmare, i would advice people to stay clear never known a tv maker to have so many issues.
Had the same problem with a Samsung tv before exactly the same issue after doing a lot of research I found out that the WiFi modem was connected to the power button on the side of the TV and a faulty WiFi modem board would basically casue some kind of short on the power button that would make the TV turn off and on, simply disconnecting the WiFi board from the main bord, and it fixed the issue, and I'm watching this video on the TV I fixed.
on older samsungs this is true but on this model the wifi is built into the IR pcb along with bluetooth, much more reliable and doesnt normally reset when a wifi/bluetooth error is detected, it just reports it in the service menu error log. the 2 flash he was getting is an error code for the screen and would likely show "tcon" errors in the service menu error log (if has enough time to get there, you have to be very fast before it resets and would need an actually service remote as not all options show using a standard remote)
It could still be Wi-Fi related. I once had a laptop that would switch off sporadically and it turned out to be the Wi-Fi module spiking in current and dropping the voltage somewhere else. I swapped module and it fixed the issue but I also tried replacing the caps on the Wi-Fi module power rails with higher value and that also solved issue with that board.
Awesome video mate , was hoping you’d fix it but still informative and well presented, one of your best yet 👍
befor scraping it check the back light voltage .if voltage drops befor set reboots one of the LED strips is faulty
Come on Phil, get that transistor changed, you're better than someone that would leave that unfixed! Put that original ribbon cable back on too. I've learned a lot from you from your normal videos on the consoles, so let me help you. I've fixed 'many' TV's by simply swapping out a blown transistor or shorted cap on the driver boards at the bottom of screens. Test for a shorted cap on the driver boards on the screen just like you normally do on your consoles. If there is a short, disconnect the TCON board and test again to confirm the short isn't on the TCON board. Otherwise it's just swapping out micro components which you can do with your eye's closed, I know you can!
This TV ha no tcon board, the tcon board are on the mainboard , that tv has a short on the lcd panel
@@littletear27the drivers are interconnected to the lcd panel. did you watch with eyes closed?
I’ve fixed a few with similar issues by isolating the pin /pins that go to the shorted part of the screen, however although you did 2 different lines and it didn’t fix it, it doesn’t mean it’s not one of the others, sometimes block off 3 or 4 at a time to find it and narrow it down from there. You will probably notice a slight picture imperfection but won’t notice watching a film.
You know where the issue is and you know you can repair it. You're a repair technician... fix it, lad.
hello, if you tell me the exact model of the TV, I can help you with the repair of the display. I had many in service and most of the times I managed to fix them
It's honorable that you gave the seller 50£ but maybe in the future accept their offer to give it away. If you can repair it, then you could give them what you think is a fair price for it.
fun fact down every street in Australia you will find big screen tv's out the
front of peoples houses FREE ,we chuck em out all the time lol mind you 65" only $400 new
Great change of pace Phil, nice to see you tryin ur hand at something diff.
Oh my gosh! This bloke's an angel. You wouldn't initially presume that, would you!? Stories do say that they come in different forms. I'm gonna stamp my 'Pearly gate' ticket with this one and subscribe.
Love the videos brother keep on trucking your progression is awesome!
This channel is great. An honest and hard workintg lad. Let's get this dude to 100k followers!!
You're a cat person! No wonder I like you. :) Thank you for being kind to cats.
Discovered your channel recently through your "xbox will die" video. Very helpful channel as I work in a computer store and gradually learning to fix more electronics. Cheers mate
Yeah, as you said you probably damaged the screen during the disassembly, the dark spot is on the corner you opened the TV and it wasn't there the first time you turned it on. Generally it's better to remove the back cover starting from the bottom, in these screwless models there are two holes on each side where a specific hook-shaped tool can be inserted to hook and pull those metal wires to which the cover is attached. I don't have that tool but when I have to open this kind of TVs I insert a long, thin screwdriver in those holes and then I lift the lid applying a little bit of force.
Anyway I think you correctly identified the original problem, maybe it can be worth trying to replace the chip that was overheating.
Oh no, I feel for you.i purchased a flir c2 fully working, ..then I stood on it not looking 😢.positive out of a negative, it's a learning curve, and you have a new subscriber. Love watching your videos until the early hours of the morning.. Thank you..
Love that you gave them money , so kind. Your a good guy
Man, watching you remembered me about my 55 inch I have that as the same issue. I bought the same parts and came to the same conclusion. That bottom ribbon with the modules is where all Samsungs go down. I did the tape trick too on the grey cable. Tell me if you had the breakthrough. Another great video!!
I had a TV that did similar, and it ended up being one of the LED strips behind the screen. Not sure how the feedback circuit worked, but one of the strips was drawing too much current, which was fine briefly, then would cause the TV to turn off after a short period of time.
I tested mine by pulling the LED strips, and applying the required voltage, and measuring the current draw.
Pulling the LCD panel apart wasn't too difficult either. Just keep it in order.
This. Had the same problem and what I did was disconnect the backlight source. It turns on w/o powering off and replaced all the led strips.
brilliant video, really helped, just subscribed
Ely has some amazing architecture. I went to visit when I was statoned in England.
Samsung seems to have problems with every electronic product they manufacture.
Ive been here before where the birds start tweeting outside and the sunlight of dawn comes through the curtains and you have not managed to fix it. Time to call it and count your losses but i bet a few new ideas are swimming through your mind as you try to sleep :)
Hi Phil you can remove it with just solder iron. Mosly you can fix it. With covering cof lines. But if transistor is faulty just remove it with low melt solder and solderiron. They thin boards with desolder easey.
I had a similar tv with a similar problem. To "fix" it I simply turned the brightness WAY down and it no longer reset. I had to do it really quickly before it reset. The picture still looked great and worked fine for a year or so. Eventually the problem returned and even a brightness of 0 would cause it to reset. Simple "fix" worth trying I think.
These new Samsung models tend to shut down or even bootloop when there is any issues detected with the backlights.
That's usually a bad or leaking capacitor. When u turn the brightness down ur using less power so it'll work for awhile until the capacitor gets worse. I've had old monitors that have done the same....
I feel your pain. I dropped a bit over $100 on mosfets on a plasma tv for someone else, on the y-sus board I think, thought I'd checked everything but forgot to scope the gate drives without them installed to make sure the driver chip was ok, sadly killed the new parts.
Don't scrap it. I got a similar set (with exactly same fault) working by using the wacky method shown in SOSfix's video 'Samsung tv .. restarting no picture' where he covers error reporting traces on interconnect cable.
I like your 1960s style curtains. They have the feel of the exhibition of the Festival Of Britain in the 1950s! I was not there of course but I have an old copy of the exhibition catalogue! No 50" tellys back then either!
One thing i did of camera because i didnt wanna show you so nobody gets hurt....issssssss..... Feel these heatsinks then proceeds to touch and reveal what he didnt want to reveal... Absolute classic... love it...
only 10 min in... but that power cycling could also be a sign of a bad cap.. that half charges up, then loses voltage... i hope this video turns more into component level repair.. and explaining the testing as you do it...
I'm at work in Ely watching your video, i just watched your life story vid, Well done again bro!!!!
Got that line but just before you changed ribbon cable you lent on the back of tv could of been that
I have a Samsung 55” 4k UHD as well, power cycles when first turned on. Luckily, once it decided to come back to life after multiple, multiple cycles, it does stay on. I have let it just go into sleep mode/screensaver mode since. Been using it for years now, left it powered on for 4 years now. Was free to me in the end anyways. Your small black remote is the bluetooth remote
Hard luck on this one. At least you showed an analytical way of troubleshooting. Keep these fixes up. It's good to see you try keep anything out of the dump
Looking forward to you having TV-fixing space in the new shed
At this point, I’m convinced Phil can fix anything.
LOVE the kittens appearance ❤
You came right near me. I’m just up the road from Ely… in Littleport. :)
I repaired a Samsung 4k tv last year too. Someone had it by their front door, I asked to have it. Ended up just being the backlights. £17 to fix.
It’s now hanging in my living room 👌
Phil that x1pixel line down the tv screen can be just dust or debris caught in the connector or between the connector and ribbon cable.
A good clean with IPA usually fixes it.
not sure it's just 1 row of pixels, a 4k tv has very small pixels lol
the backlight is damaged one or 2 leds which cost £5 The problem is that it is hard to disassemble the matrix. But you can try to make a movie out of it.
Hello mate, I've come across your channel before with a ps5 video. I just came across it again with a Samsung tv, so I have subscribed. I bought a 40 inch jvc from currys pc world about 4 years ago. It stopped powering on about a year ago, but it would work for a few days, then fail again. I checked youtube and unplugged from the mains and removed the batteries from the remote. I held the power off button for about 30 seconds and the tv came back to life. It has been a week now and no problem 👍🙂😎
Great vid first time for me watching have now subscibed look forward to some more
Also depending on what you drive fella a trip from Nottingham down to Ipswich and back would usually do me at around 35-55 depending on traffic and how heavy my right foot is. About £45 sounds about right for your round trip journey too.
Started repairing tvs when I was 13. Caps were always the problem and Panasonic plasma tvs were the easiest for parts most shared the same psu with a slight difference.
Would love to repair tvs again
my father said when he worked in Sony back in the early 90's that the screen cost far out wieghed the price of the tv by 10:1, as in 10 times the price of the tv. great to see something different on the channel though Phil, it was worth the shot, and I know with something that large it really needs the spares before pulling it apart, but yeah would have pulled it apart, and tested with the thermal camera first if you had a larger place where space isn't an issue.
Ive heard that failure rates are high on tv panels unsure how true that is
Unlucky, keep up the good work, love these videos
Great video, Phil - before you pull it apart (if I am not too late) perhaps one of your viewers has expertise on these things and a large enough bench?
love your content brother
There has been some bad thunder storms lately around the country where a few electronic appliances especially Tv's that have been surge or lightning damaged, so I'm trying to get hold of a few more faulty ones, the ones I have just need new replacement boards.
Fantastic video, although frustrating for you, there was no end result, it was still an awesome video. Next buy will pay off 👍
I love you love cats, top bloke! Technicians and moggies go hand in hand! 😹😹😹
I've also had shocking luck trying to repair TVs. Some models have so many different version it isn't even clear if the board you buy will match the version of the TV you have, even when the name and model number match.
I really enjoy your channel your an honest chap and you say it as it is.
It could be the backlight LEDs starting to fail. Try to disconnect the LEDs and connect external backlight LEDs to the power supply and see if it reboots.
Like you said might be those warm transistor or the board with touch sensitivity buttons ( on off , sources , volume )
My idea would be cut scratches the pcb traces on it with precision knife, fine if would work only with remotes
try cover some lines (4 or 5) on the flat cable with kapton tape this work sometimes
Long journey there mate. You went to Ely which is pronounced EELEEE. Good vid fella and i watch all and am subbed as well.
Put the old ribbon cable back in probably the reason you have a black line
When you do part it out, be very specific about the motherboard model. I had to replace one in my old Samsung 50 inch tv for a malfunctioned 4K 60 hdmi port. (The only one it had that supported my XSX and PS5) I got what I thought was the correct board, but it was 2 digits out. Boards looked exactly the same. But after replacing it, all the colours were washed out and I had 4 huge vertical bars down the screen. Ended up scouring the internet for an exact motherboard serial. After that it was fine.
Did you try change panel type on Service Menu? Sounds like there's wrong panel selected, since that motherboard were for another revision.
@@15fakeaccount I did not. I sourced another with the exact same board number. It was fine after that. It was a while back and I have since replaced that TV with a Hisense with 4 4k60 ports. Now I don't have to worry about swapping cables over.
Wish i could send you my tv it comes on for half a second and then goes to a black screen but still get the sound , i am buying a new 1 this week , great videos mate
Yours is most lightly a backlighting issue
You can fix that Phil. Get a pinecil or any small protable soldering iron and knock that part off. Those boards are repairable. What you have to be careful with is the ribbon cables connecting the boards to the glass. I'm a complete clutz, no where close to as talented as you, and Ive managed to fix a few. They are more durable than you'd think. Nothing to really loose after all, you'll still have the boards.
Hey Phil question for you... I have a TV it's an ok TV nothing fancy, I find that everytime it switches on after being off I have to run through the setup again for Channels before I can select a source. It always comes up and I have to run it no matter what. But before this happened I used to get the blue light flashing on the TV and it would turn itself off sometimes but now it just only does the TV channel setup every single time the TV is turned on. Is this related to a memory battery or chip or something? TV is fine when on after the setup
pay attention to solder joints on any/all transformers chokes etc etc.
The cat did it !!!
love them curtains 👌
Couple of years ago my Samsung tv kept power cycling. Turned out to be a corrupted software, I downloaded most current onto USB stick and reinstalled, it solved my problem, maybe your tv could be doing something similiar.
We've got a Samsung UE55JS8000 which was ex display. We had a problem with the TV randomly turning itself on/off. Samsung sent repair guy out who swapped lots of components but problem was still there. The last thing he changed was the IR sensor (not sure if that included the cable attached) but it fixed the problem. The repair guy was gobsmacked and hadn't come across that before. No problems ever since.
Try reseating the ribbons bud to get rid of that line down side. Same happened to me.
i had the same probem on a smaller samsung switching off.. cut a long storey short it was the built in touch buttons on the side of tv, i disconnected them and it worked fine...i just had to use remote from then on.....as for lines could be ribbon cable or where you plug the ribbon cable in... thanks for the vids
I had a similar thing with the smart remote buttons being depressed.
Love the kitties
I would have swapped the power chord, and when it wouldn't have worked, I would have called it a day. Kudos for going the extra mile. 👏
This is the first video I’ve seen of yours, just a thought about you not being able to get to tv on your bench, could you use an artists easel or something like it so that you can work on it in an up right position🧐😊👍
Had something similar on a Samsung TV about 7 years ago, the Samsung technician came took it all apart and put a plastic sticker in between 2 components that were touching. I couldn't believe it.
Its cool to see you try something else, you absolutely persisted with that one, was great to see! You win some you lose some, i reckon if you could get it to the bench you'd be able to get it working
I worked for Samsung for a while , for this model of 50tu7000 or 8000, the screen is popular for dying just outside the warranty period. It’s not the end of the road though, usually the culprit is a cof IC,( mostly the one at the extreme left/ right of the tv. Another method to test it is to completely remove the ribbon cable from either end , and plug the tv in. If it stays steady then definitely it’s the screen . Taking it to professional Cof replacement shop can actually breathe new life to this unit.
Samsung and LG make me cof. Avoid them at all cost.
tu and au series 7000/8000 both have this problem, but the TU was by far the worst one
Interesting that it has the old AV/composite jacks on it, must be an older one than mine (mine is a UE50TU7020K). Yet my secondary TV, a 40" 1080p Samsung (UE40T5300) has *_component_* jacks 🤷♂️
I had a smaller size Samsung TV with the same problem - TV constantly rebooting. Got it fixed by an Ebay repair service who replaced the NAND IC on the main board. Cost £45 and they turned it around in 5 days.
Check pcb bord for a dry joint on cap for screen and check rail for led short that's my recommendation
The line could be the ribbon cable. Have you tried the old cable back on?
Low melt solder and a portable iron is easier and safer to switch the transistor if you can see the part number.
It’s always tough when you work on something for the first time.
And tv screens are so big now that they are a nightmare unless they are just a board swap.
I wonder if a Keter folding work bench would allow you to fix this.
It’s lightweight and very portable and you can use it in your workshop or around the house for those DIY projects that are bound to come up!
Just a thought.
You get lines when someone puts their top half weight on one side probably lol
I have a 60" it works great but it has a purple shadow just below centre of the picture? google suggests it could be a connection like hdmi but its there even on a black screen or when you go into the menu? any ideas? please. love your videos
Hey dude great content and I mean all ur videos lol not just this one but ive also got a bush 4k smart tv and the problem with mine is it turns on but the screen don't light up/show anything, power cycled it and rebooted and out of 50 attempts it will turn on and stay on once and if iam lucky twice but soon as the power is off bk to the usual, any ideas on what could be the problem, cheers bud 👍
I have fix my 55”LG 4K with a piece of tape about 2 years ago and it still works 😅
Did you check the tec boad that works back lighting or the cable concentions maybe dust got inside which could cause lines on the screen
I've got an LG 42" 1080 TV - if you put it on a channel that has a low signal level then after a couple of minutes it will crash and reboot - initially though the PSU was going bad and replaced it (replacement was only a few pounds), but the problem persisted - it was then I noticed it only did it on certain channels and checking those they all have a low signal level.
Hi can you please advise me what I can try to fix to get to work my Rug Doctor, the power/Reset button is stuck in the on position, which I have been told signify's a a fault, it's hardly been used but unfortunately past warranty date so definitely worth attempting to repair. Also I have a 700 watt microwave oven that has completely stopped working within a year of purchase, unfortunately cannot find receipt, please can anyone help with devices I would really appreciate it. Great video awesome attempt at fixing T.V, thankyou so much.
Those are lovely kitties :)
I am a sucker for kitties :)
Even though my 5 year old black panther hates me :)
At work I have 11 cats.
You were very kind giving £50 for a broken tv you should have said if I fix it I will give cash hindsight is a good thing
I recently moved myself and also got a 50" tv, but i put it in last and put it behind the sofa so the back faced the van wall, it survived
Yeah you should never put pressure on the back of a TV I saw your hand on the back I hope you didn't push down when you were doing the ribbon cable
Could you disconnect the backlight and use a torch to see if the TV still reboots?
I dont think it will be the screen, as it fires up ok to start with and looks fine. I'm thinking it may restart because of a power supply problem, if the power goes off briefly that would cause it to restart. Maybe a component is heating up and failing on startup. I get the feeling that it's not much of a problem, but finding it is. Process of elimination. I get a strong feeling though that its not the screen thats the problem. Is there a way you could test the screen using a cable to a computer? All the best with it anyway.
My Samsung 65" TV does the same thing, kinda. It would randomly power cycle, at one point it happened so often that I just felt like throwing it out the door. Haven't had the issue in a long time now, so I'm lost as to what the cause was. Might have been a faulty HDMI cable from the XBox that caused something to go weird cause it went away for the most part once I got a new HDMI cable.
Hello mate, I'm from Dudley in the west midlands and I've got a 50" Samsung but it has horizontal lines can you advise me how I can get rid of them please.
I would normally pronounce it E lie . My sister lives down in Ipswich so we would go through Ely a lot especially on the train or down the A14 and stop of at Cambridge service station. Looking forward to this one mate
In Wales we have an Ely, and we pronounce it E-lee
Just having kittens shows you are a good guy.
Remove lcd backlight cable from psu and check it. If it stays on than it is one of the led diods on backlight line.
